1. Bump for a great bass. I had the privilege of meeting its owner this afternoon, who is a lovely and extremely hospitable guy and trying out this funky instrument.
2.
I have had a couple of Mexican P Basses and they were OK. My Nate Mendel however, knocks the spots off some US Fenders.
I second that! The copy of the Mendel bass I tried was way better than the US models I tried.
3. Thanks, Jules. I'll do that. At least I know that they'll fit.
4. I'll be coming to London on Thursday and staying until Sunday so could potentially bring it with me for a buyer.
5. I've just noticed that I've been buying the long scale version of these strings. Would the medium scale ones fit a P bass? It says "for basses up to 34" scale length" so ought to be ok, right? Also, have the tensions changed since the new packaging came in? The figures given on my packet don't tally with those listed on the website.
6. Whereabouts in north London are you? I'm travelling there Thursday to Sunday and would like to check this out if I may.
7. Weighs 4.17kg on my kitchen scales. 4.5kg when subtracting whilst holding on the bathroom scales.
8. It's USA as stated in the title. It's from 1997 or 1998. This model was only produced for those two years.
9. There's also a Fender USA Precision Bass Special (P body, J neck, passive PJ with VVT). I have one for sale in the marketplace but it's a rosewood neck. Sadowsky Metro Hybrid PJ is another option.
10. These are great. I went into GuitarGuitar in Glasgow about 3 years ago and tried out various Ps (Lakland, Sadowsky, Fender Am Std) and this one was the best of the bunch! The ash body may have something to do with it. I love the rounder 7.25-inch radius on the fretboard. The nut is a "B" width but is still a tad too wide for me, otherwise I probably would've bought it, even though I only went in to browse, and I don't like red basses either.
11. Bought this a couple of years ago and love it (apart from the colour, so I've bought an American Standard PJ). I had Jon Shuker set it up, dress the frets and fit a Gotoh bridge. (The original is included but is sh*te.) 38mm nut! ~4.2kg In great cosmetic condition, just one minuscule paint chip that only goes to the undercoat. The truss rod is functional but not perfect. I took it to Jon worried that the adjusting nut had been stripped but it turned out I was using a metric hex key and Fenders are imperial. Once he gave me the right size key it worked fine. Not sure it'll go super low with really heavy gauge strings though. It's currently strung with Chromes 50-105 and medium-low. All passive, controls are VVT. All original (except the bridge). Comes with the Hiscox case pictured. Collection preferred, but I will post. I'm in Sheffield, but could probably bring to London and combine with a visit to friends if you pay the train fare. Would ship in a box measuring 20x55x140cm and would weigh 15kg or so. I'm guessing postage would be £25-30 but will defer to those in the know. The only trades I'd consider would be: Fender American standard fretless in sunburst or white (if someone has swapped bodies), preferably with custom shop pickups, but I like the older S-1 variation too. Fender deluxe jazz white or sunburst, rosewood only (the model immediately prior to the Elite model). Fender 70s jazz reissue, MIA or MIJ, natural or white, rosewood neck preferred, white blocks only. American standard Precision with a rosewood jazz neck in Olympic white only (with custom shop pickups). Musicman Stingray SLO special, honeyburst, natural or white, rosewood neck, single H 2 or 3 EQ.
12. Just a feeler at present as I'm awaiting an American standard PJ which will supplant this. Bought this a couple of years ago and love it (apart from the colour). I had Jon Shuker set it up, dress the frets and fit a Gotoh bridge. (The original is included but is sh*te.) In great cosmetic condition, just one minuscule paint chip that only goes to the undercoat. The truss rod is functional but I think the previous owner was a bit rough with it. I took it to Jon worried that the adjusting but had been stripped but it turned out I was using a metric hex key and Fenders are imperial. Once he gave me the right size key it worked fine. Not sure it'll go super low with really heavy gauge strings though. It's currently strung with Chromes 50-105 and medium-low. All passive, controls are VVT. Comes with the Hiscox case pictured. Collection preferred from Sheffield, or I could probably bring to London and combine with a visit to friends if you pay the train fare. The only trades I'd consider would be: Fender American standard fretless in sunburst or white (if someone has swapped bodies) Fender 2015 deluxe jazz white or sunburst, rosewood only. Fender 70s jazz reissue, MIA or MIJ, natural or white, rosewood neck preferred, white blocks only. Amer Musicman Stingray SLO special, honeyburst, natural or white, rosewood neck, single H 2 or 3 EQ.
13. Now £300 Hi guys, a recent new bass purchase means I could do with replenishing some funds. I have barely used this amp so offering for sale. It's in excellent condition. There is some scratchiness in some of the pots when they are being turned (but they are fine when stationary). It's nothing a little switch cleaner wouldn't fix. From what I can gather about GK serial numbers, this amp is from week 33 of 2006. I've had it for 4.5 years and it's never left my house and only been used a few times. I'd prefer collection but could post and am based in Sheffield.
14. Gutted to find, when I can finally (almost) afford to custom order a Stingray Slo Special, that they've discontinued one of the very best finishes. Grr!
15. Anyone played or got one of these? Are they good? I'd really like to get my hands on one. Please let me know if anyone spots one in a UK shop.
16. Wasn't me, Karl, but perhaps it came up in conversation because I'd posted that I was looking for Precision basses with Jazz necks. Ironically I just bought a California series this weekend on eBay. Update: got it back last weekend from being properly set up and checked over by Jon Shuker and it's playing great! The new flats I had it set up with are now just starting to sound broken in. These are great basses, if only I'd managed to find an Olympic white one… Actually, I'm sure it'll look better if I replace the anodised gold guard with a black plastic one, and it'll improve my health (those anodised guards are hell on your fingernails).
