1. Boss VF-1 in excellent condition, boxed with manual and power supply etc. Amazing range of effects including guitar amp modelling, reverbs, dynamics, modulation etc. etc. See harmony central user reviews (http://reviews.harmony-central.com/reviews/Effects/product/Boss/VF-1/10/1). You can edit a massive range of parameters on this compared to most units. Now discontinued I believe. See http://www.bosscorp.co.jp/products/en/VF-1/ for more details. £170 posted or £160 collection from Bristol.
2. I'm putting this in amps because this has been used as a rig with a sansamp BDDI - great sound. This is one of the last clear out items from my old band and I used to put bass and vocals through it (sometimes with V-drums added) without any problems at all. It really is a fantastic bit of kit. Comes with a gator padded bag designed specifically for mackie srm450/jbl eon powered speakers with wheels and telescopic handle which means you can roll it like a suitcase. Will put some photos up later but rest assured that these are in excellent condition. Collection only from Bristol or could probably fudge a meet up or get them up to Birmingham area pretty easily. Alternatively I am more than happy to courier this if you have a preferred carrier from the 'recommend a courier' thread! EDIT - any offers considered for the roller case as the buyer had a flightcase already!
3. I ended up ordering through guitar man NYC - after finding the same lack of information i figured it would be more of a ball ache than absolutely necessary to order through a uk dealer.
4.
Easy answer. It has to be this one. It's a Stray 5.
Oh my god, that is f***ing sweet - I'd go for a different finish body but I love graphite and i love rays. You have just given me a 5 string to aspire to!
5.
Mesa Boogie also made a much less popular Buster 200 wedge combo which might actually prove to be better value. Caveat: I don't like grindy sounding valve amps.
They made a buster head too - not sure if it ever made it to this side of the pond though, rare as hens teeth as it is. Agreed, Trace valve amps are to be avoided if you want grindy, unless it's one of the older ones with the SMX pre-amp and a low powered (100w ish) output stage that you can drive.
6.
Actually, looking at the ampeg V4B - i played that once at a gig and i loved it! So much punch and grit. I'll defo keep my eyes out for one of those
Keep your eyes peeled for the V4 (no guitar version - it's pretty much identical but without the useless 'ultra low' switch which just translates to 'ultra mud'. Where are you based by the way? Might be worth a visit to some well stocked shops and maybe a few basschatters will have amps you can try (I have a GK700rb and an Ampeg V4 so that'd be two off your list!).
7. My Shuker 6 - it was born (I picked it up) on 20th August 2003 and it is the instrument I have played the most. Even if it doesn't get touched for weeks on end and I wonder if I'll ever use it in anger again, I just pick it up and it just reaffirms how much I like it. Still wish it was 4 lbs ligther though!
What does the NV sound like with the GK head G-bitch?.
Sweet at low volumes - not had chance to crank it but I think it's safe to say that it would cut through pretty much anything.
9. I'll give you an example. My dad is not bass player, he just plays bass (he's a pianist/organist who helps out in the church group on bass). For various reasons he had 3 basses until quite recently. His main bass is my first bass which I gave to him knowing it wasn't worth selling. One is a hondo POS which lives in the loft and was played by one of his old clients who died young so he doesn't want to chuck it. There was also a jap jazz copy which lived in the loft but got given away to a friends kid who wanted to start playing bass. I dare say that the old loft/wardrobe theory is quite accurate. The really sh*t ones proabably get ceremoniously burnt!

I thought the Laney valve head was friggin' awesome! Bangor is a bit far - you are more than welcome to try out an NV610 here in Brizzle. I've got an old Ampeg valve head (V4) and a GK700rbII to use with it.
11. Yes, it's mine - hit the BIN or PM me to save a fiver. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...E:IT&ih=016
12. Tribal Planet gig-bag - it's the really plush and well protected one. Unfortunately the handle broke off but the shoulder straps and everything else about it is absolutely fine despite years of use. Free to any discerning forumite prepared to pick it up from Bristol. See attachments for photos - PM me your phone number and I'll give you a buzz.
13. Bloody good point about Richer Sounds - always been superb for me and heard lots of praise of friends/relatives too.
14. Barfly venues are all piss-taking bastards like that if I understand it. They claim to support unsigned local bands but then do things like this and do no promotion. The one in Birmingham is sh*te, they have the cheek to get bands to sell tickets etc. requiring a minimum, offer nothing in terms of payment and they're located outside the city centre so fail to pull in any 'passing trade' punters and make no effort to change this.
15. That's some fair point on the Marshall - simple fact is that, at that price, nothing can touch it. I'm not keen on the sound myself and much prefer SVT's but that doesn't mean that I'd pay double!
16. I'm another one - and it's not due to my own lack of skills (I admit I can't play like that!), it's just that I have no interest in it. All of my favourite guitarists that I've played with are the ones who might be slightly 'limited' technically (i.e. not a solo/shredding w***er) but just create something that suits the song - often giving it far more thought than just which mode to w*** in.
17. I'd rather spend a little extra and get a rackmount effect and midi foot controller - that said, it makes distortion a little more challenging (would have to be a TC G-Major/Force or something else guitar specific). I've got an old boss VF-1 in a vocal rig which I could quite easily employ as a multi-fx, I shall have to give that a blast some time.
18. I'd agree with that - who wants to rock a fugly bass?!
19. Do any of you guys ever think about what inflation has done to your cash when making these comparisons? Every now and again I think of a Bogart graphite bass I tried in the gallery years ago - the price now seems like a steal but if you factor in inflation (especially the RPI figure not Gordon's 2% odd bullshit) then you realise that it was a lot of cash!
20. I'm with the 410 brigade too for much the same reasons as provided above.
