1.
Some have mentioned earplugs.... For rehearsals yes, gigs no. What does it say to your audience if the band are wearing them?
Really, really disagree with that - the audience are not stood next to the drummer! I carry ear plugs everywhere...nearly put them in when I took my 4 year old to the panto!
2. I'd look at a Tascam bass trainer or a pandora - so much better than the bare bass... I'd be inclined to buy a camera case for it, or even just wrap it in cling film!
3. Ok thanks for the replies. Think I'll take a risk and eBay the bits. I wouldn't consider the gear as vintage. The compressor is from 97! Admittedly the graphic is a fair bit older
4. I don't understand. Have I done something to offend in my original post?

6. At the end of the day, the SXs are cheap. I've owned about 6 of them - kept the neck off the first one I ever bought and mated it to a nicer body. Make no mistake, the necks are massive on the Ps. The SXs were good for the money when the exchange rate was awesome - I paid £60 for my first one. Quality tuners make the bass feel far better. I've always put Gotoh 201 bridges on them. Standard pickups seem fine - electronics seem to be a bit cheap but perfectly usable. They suffer with typical cheap Chinese build quality - some are great, some are ok and a few are really crap. Consistency is not very good. I think what a lot of people mean when they talk about how good they are is that they are a good base to mod. Standard US Fender is in a different league, but mod a 'good' SX and it will be just as good as the Fender for half the price...
7. We've inherited a few bits of PA gear that we haven't used for the last couple of years and was wondering if it's worth selling them. Dod 430 series 2 graphic equaliser - 2 channels with 15 bands per channel LA audio GCX2 dual compressor/gate Roland RE3 Space Echo All in good (used) condition- a few of the knobs are scuffed (errr....). My gut feeling is that the Space Echo is the only decent bit of kit as I've heard of it. Is this any better than the current Alesis Quadraverb4 we have in the PA rack? Any clues on wether I should eBay this lot and what is realistic to expect?
8. Bad Monkey has been sold, so still looking...
9. Just sorted my pedalboard out and there isn't quite enough room for this XO size pedal on my board...bit gutted actually as it's completely brand new. Looking for some kind of fuzz/od/dist - I mainly use it with an envelope follower... Ironically Boss size would be OK. Can add cash if anyone has a modded Bad Monkey!
10.
[email protected]
Thanks for that
11. Not as daft as it sounds - I don't have a default mail client and it isn't shown on his site unless you click the link which obviously doesn't work... Cheers
12.
If I come over I'll bring my Shuker - just had a U Retro 5 knob Deluxe installed - nice.
That sounds great, although possibly complicated. I had to get rid of a 3 knob J retro as it was too much to think about!
13. Nah just flogged off loads of cheap guitars and decided on a select few (Dingwall, Sadowsky Metro customised by John East, Jap P 62 nitro special with US 62 Jazz neck, P Retro and Wizard Thumper). Although since you last came down I've gone through about thirty basses...Oh and I'm awaiting a Shuker custom build if it ever arrives (ordered May 2009...)
14.
How ya getting on with it?...Might have to come over to Hull soon.... I have really bad GAS for a Dingwall
You are more than welcome to pop down for a coffee - although I am thinking about swapping it for another Sadowsky... Regards how I'm getting on with it - I really can't get on with passive basses! Fanned frets don't need any adjustment, and I can swap between it and my Sadowsky Jazz without a 2nd thought. Neck itself would be perfect if it didn't have a none Jazz nut. 41mm rings a bell - can anyone confirm? Weight and build quality are top notch - it oozes quality and weighs 8lbs. Feels in a different league to the Sadowsky (Metro) surprisingly. It's really bright but not in a negative way, the pickups are awesome - sounds like a slightly brighter version of a Yamaha Bb1024. Comes with a branded Levi gig bag and all the tools - all different size depending on the job! Mine has the tonestyler circuit. This is the actual bass: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSp0P3xhKuA...be_gdata_player I bought it from Bassdirect - sounds far more alive than the sunburst in stock, even though the sunburst was noticeably lighter. Feel free to pop down and have a look at it.
15. I use one of the cabs as an extension for my Shuttle 310 Genz and love the tone. Seems to be enough for your average size pub.
16. That is great - wish I could do something as creative!
17. Well I've got an ABZ as a bedroom guitar, so why not??!!
18.
If you ever get bored of it I'll do you a favour & take it off your hands .. guess I'll be heading to bassdirect soon myself ! gotta try one of those ...
Only if you've got a Sadowsky P Metro to trade?? Sadly coming to the conclusion that I am an active guy...
19. Cheers for that guys, think I'm sorted for the strips - can't seem to find small plastic corners anywhere - only need a 2mm depth on them...
20. I'm in the middle of building a pedalboard, and have retrimmed a piece of wood with amp carpet. I'm looking for some kind of plastic C shape trunking to fix around the edges as two seams are on the edge - would also like to get some corners, the regular amp corners are about twice as large as I need. Any ideas where to get the stuff from? I've searched on ebay for hours...
21. Just received a BOD today but am not very impressed with it's tracking. It's my first octaver, but it seems to have dodgy tracking on the G string, low C note. Ironically a low C on the E string sounds fine...whats going on? Is it highlighting a deficiency of the bass (which is a Dingwall ABZ btw)? By dodgy tracking I mean it sounds like a keyboard when you mess with the pitch shift stick - loses the originally played note very quickly. I realise analogue octavers don't track low low notes, but I'm not asking it to do this. Very tempted to swap it for a digital EHX Pog... Is this the norm or a dodgy unit? Haven't tried it with another bass yet. Oh and merry christmas
22. Selling these on behalf of a workmate. Good condition, hardly used. The head is 450w and the cab is a 300w 8Ohm. Collection from just outside Hull prefered, I'm sure he would meet up for contribution to fuel. £250. Part ex may be possible through me - if I want the part ex, I could pay him Especially looking for EHX pedals (Pog, Bass Muff, Octave Multiplexer)/nice pedal compressor and a pedal train
23. Steady on guys, retailer has been great. Just wondered if mine was a one off - getting collected soon.
24. Here's the deal. I am returning my 1024 but am interested in trying a 424 as I get the feeling there isn't a great deal of difference between them. I'm returning this probably middle of next week. Anyone have a 424 and willing to travel to East Yorkshire to compare the two? I've also got a Sadowsky Metro and Dingwall Afterburner you can come and try
25. It's from a well known German company who have offered me...wait for it...£25 discount! I don't think that's worth it personally... £700 new
