1. Being a beginner to rack gear, it would help me know how everything is setup. Hence this thread
2. There's quite a bit of price difference, but would (eventually) like a really sexy Fender Jazz. I understand the methodology behind the NOS, but does it actually play/sound much different?
3.
Unless you have got a PA at home how are you gonna try it out? You cant plug a mike into you bass amp. If you want to try it out at rehersal then see if you can hire one from your local PA hire.
Guitar amp.
4. You get £32 tax free if its a gift...just mark accordingly. Customs opened my SX basses thinking I'd pulled a fast one... there are loads of scams - lower declared value, labelling as a commercial sample, prototype product...not that I've used any of these. I know of people that have bought £300 lenses from Hong Kong and not paid any duty by declaring as a prototype.
5. Problem sorted Turned the volume up to 8 (also known as fecking loud), and moved the guitarist Wow plenty of volume, shame the cab sounded so farty...think I'll be taking my own gear in future.
6. I understand what you are saying about the Shure, but what if me singing doesn't work? It's only a thought at the moment (having NEVER done it before...)
7. I'm thinking of maybe singing some backing vocals eventually, but would like to practice at home before making a fool of myself in front of the band Can anyone recommend something cheap, but which would be OK for the odd gig.
8. We need some pictures, guys!!!!
9. Thanks for all the replies - will try out the suggestions tomorrow night
10.
I'm being a bit thick but is it £35 including postage or £35 plus postage...? I am rather interested in this if its still available! Will
...from August??
11. Thought you liked the setup? Don't suppose you want to sell me the rack ears if you've still got them? Oh, and would you be interested in selling the cabs seperate to the head?
12.
To prop up your combo so it faces up towards you, like a stage monitor. Do try to keep up ...
I got that bit...but are we getting into the realms of Monty Python or something?
13. I'm building my first rack, and am interested in what others have done
14.
I've got to agree with Homer here - You need a dead rabbit.
Sorry, you've lost me
15.
The closer you stand to your speaker, the less you will hear yourself. The lower the speaker is to the ground, the less you will hear yourself. Putting your speaker on the floor and standing next to it is therefore a Very Bad Thing. Options: 1. Put the combo on a chair and stand some way away from it. 2. DI your bass through the PA. If your DI box is a splitter, do it as well as, rather than instead of, using your combo. 3. Use an active bass rather than passive. Regardless of those three suggestions, get the drummer to turn it down. Max volume in a rehearsal studio = hearing damage.
No, the drummer wasn't giving it serious beans, just completely alien after all these years - took ear plugs but didn't put them in. I've got quite sensitive hearing, but no ringing afterwards. I think I was stood a bit too far away, with my rig blocked by the guitarist. The PA idea is a good one, will try that on Saturday
16.
Mine goes down to -5 also - are you in a rented rehearsal room? If so - ask to try another - or rehearse somewhere else. A dead practice room is not the place to be.
Yeah, a lot of bands use the place.
17.
what rig are you running and what's your EQ like?
I was using a TE head and a 15'' Trace cab which is the room's bass rig - as it sounded a lot louder than my Superfly running one sided (ie 250w). I left the EQ as it was when I plugged into it - a sad face, but boosted the lows slightly.
18. I decided a couple of weeks ago to start a band. Got a few members together last night for our first rehearsal. Problem is, I can't hear myself with a loud drummer... Where does everyone place their gear in relation to where they stand? I had my amp on the other side of the room and moved over to stand next to the drummer. The drummer said he could hear me fine?? I seem to really like a traditional thumpy bass sound, but play rock...should I just bite the bullet and thin out the sound with the tone? I did try that in desperation, but it just sounded thin and honky. BTW the rig is way up to the job - maybe I should have turned it up above 4...but without the drums it sounds really loud - it's just when you add a guitar to the noise that I can't hear myself. This is my first real attempt at playing bass to a higher standard in a band - played guitars for years in different bands, and never had this problem The cab was quite low on the floor - would lifting it up to my ear level help?
19. Think I put these in the wrong forum, so here's the link!! http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=14151
20.
What do you mean "what bash"?
Look at the times - I've only just posted that ... Did a search after your PM!!
21. ...speaking of North East, is there anyone out this way that wants a lift? I may be able to go if I can find someone to share fuel costs/stop me getting lost... I'm in Hull, but could go across to Manchester/Leeds I suppose - looks like Sheffield is on the way too. Is anyone bringing their other halves? Maybe we could setup a makeup/shoes/ perfume alternative for them
22.
PM sent Going to the Bash?
What Bash?
23. Ive got an SX neckplate that I don't need - maybe the screws too if I can find them. £1 via Paypal to cover postage/envelope/PP Fees would be nice
24. I can't seem to find much on the site, is there a bass equivalent? IE that lets you play the original songs but with the bass removed?
25.
rack bags are a lil easier to lug around and they do protect your stuff well, however be careful with the zips! i've just completely knackered mine so i either take the zip off and sew on a new one (yeah cuz i'm great at sewing...) or buy a new rack bag! then again i've seen enough hard rack cases that have the doors hanging off cuz the catches have broken...
Thanks for the advice guys, I'm going to try a rack bag and see how I get on
