1.
Why don't you go to a music shop, i.e sound control and have a look at the colours in the flesh. Otherwise, you may regret your colour choice if you pick one and it's not what you expect.
Don't think anywhere around here has them... Would really like to seee Blizzard pearl in the flesh first.
2. I'm a bit closer to making a decision on a bass, and am now thinking of a new Standard Jazz (as they are surprisingly cheap if you shop around - £739 ish). I'm looking at either a Candy Cola or a Blizzard Pearl. It will definitely be a maple neck, but what colour body should I go for? How good are the colours in the flesh?
3.
...low-end Gibson basses (I've heard) don't live up to their price tag.
It's £1k on ebay!! That's not low end!
4. Hi guys, I'm looking for another bass to add to my collection of CIJ P body/J neck 62 reissue, highly modified SX Jazz and OLP Levin. I can't decide between a Geddy Lee and a Gibson money bass (the blue one). I am pretty certain I will like the Geddy, but the Gibson looks gorgeous, is in blue (fav colour for a bass), and is a limited edition (supposedly a J like neck too). Can get both basses for around £600 (the Gibson is closer to £500). What do you think? Obviously neither are local enough to try...
5. Could have sworn I didn't put it in here...can someone shift it for me please FWIW I've just checked and its been moved by a mod. The for sale forum is for basses that are for sale, I am not selling a Geddy Lee, therefore...
6. Looking at getting a Geddy Lee Jazz in the next few weeks. Cheapest place I've seen online is £609. Anyone know of any better deals?
7. The guitarist has an office at the rehearsal space, so gear could be left there. I am not looking to overdub tracks, only to get good sound quality out of it. I've tried recording in 4 channel on the zoom, but messing with the 3D software doesn't alter the sound that much...maybe we just need a new singer With regard to inputs, was thinking 1 bass, 1 guitar, 1 keyboards, 1 vocals, 1 bass drum, 1 snare, 2 ambient for cymbals/toms
8. I've just bought a Zoom H2, and after having recorded with it once, have REALLY got the bug for recording rehearsals (for no other reason than I want to ). I've also got a PC lying around at home doing very little (use laptops for the net, and have a RAID1 external hard drive for photos and stuff). The PC was the dogs bollocks about a year ago (so is obviously ready for the rubbish tip in PC terms...). I forget the specs, but is running a Core Duo chip, has 2GB of RAM and plenty of HD space (got loads of hard drives lying around - probably enough for about 700GB). What's going to be the cheapest way of recording rehearsals? I'm thinking I'll need an 8 input soundcard, multitrack software and the mics. Anything else? The rehearsal room has a few mics lying around, and has a basic PA (which I can take a feed off for the vocals??). Anything blatantly obvious I've missed? Band consists of me on bass, one guitarist, drummer, keyboard and vocals. My only concern is can I use regular mics for drums? How much are decent but budget drum mics? Willing to spend whatever it takes for a cheapish setup (ie £500 would be good, could MAYBE stretch to £1k at a push). Any thoughts?
9.
Pics now added
Forget my previous email, I'll take them regardless!! Check your PM!! James
10. I want to record rehearsals to analyse my playing (and to maybe show my folks...), but haven't got any type of recorder. We only use the PA for vocals, so I can't plug into the mixer. Can anyone recommend a cheap recorder that will give a decent ish sound - I'm not expecting CD quailty, but would like something that sounds better than sticking an old casette recorder in the room (ie heavily distorted sh*te...). I am willing to spend around £100, hopefully less. Any ideas?
11. Where can I find the ACG?
12.
One word.................."Villex". http://villex.com/pickups.html
I agree they are excellent pickups, but I don't want to add a pickup to the current configuration (and it already has a Wizard Thumper).
13. You'll have to bear with me guys, as there are loads of variables here... I've got a Superfly rack mounted with a Behringer V amp pro and an AKG Bug wireless transmitter (also a Korg tuner). I'm currently running one side of the amp into a Peavey 1x15 cab. At rehearsal last night, the sound would cut out for maybe half a second - and happened maybe a dozen times. New battery in the transmitter, and no lights flickering on any of the gear (including the Superfly). Only thing I noticed was that the Superfly was VERY hot (running it at 2 o'clock on the volume). Any ideas? Could the Wireless unit be overheating inthe rack case? there is 1u space above the Superfly, and the wireless only occupies half of the width of 1u above the space. Any ideas? The 'bug' was plugged into my Fender Precision, with the aerial resting on the bridge.
14. I love my CIJ Precision, but sometimes feel it's a bit limited. Is there any way to get any more sounds out of it without having to rout the body out for a bridge pickup? Some MMs have Piezo pickups in the bridge...what's all that about, then? Don't mind having the bass tampered with, but REALLY hate the look of a P bass with an extra pickup...
15. Yeah taking it a stage further, I've been in band situations (playing bass) where I'm a better guitarist than the two guitarists...very frustrating. Why are so many guitarists reluctant to let rip with solos these days? I never had a problem with that Thankfully now in a band situation where I am the weakest link (although they don't realise, cos I practice the stuff so much at home )
16.
I know where to donate my jazz to now, when I'm sick of it!
Don't you dare, I'm only across the bridge from you
17. Slight change of plan, I MAY be in a position to swap it for a Cirrus - and know plenty about them!! Thanks for all the replies, James
18. I've been offered a swap for my Taylor acoustic, and wondered if it was worth it? I've tried doing a search, with the consensus being to buy a Cirrus instead... I don't REALLY need another bass (was hoping for a highway jazz...), but if the acoustic doesn't make the reserve, I might as well get something I'm going to use. Any thoughts?
19.
The Bass lessons on Rockworld TV were on in January, to be honest they wer'nt the best as it had some rock chick with him that constantly interrupted him when he was doing his demo everytime he went over 20bpm to ask him to slow down. She was asking him about what the knobs on the bass do. Bit of a head wrecker. I have 5 of them recorded on my sky box and there was nothing to do with slapping in particular just intro , chords, scales etc. all quite basic mind you.
There were a couple of different series on the musicians channel. The series I saw had some beardy bloke being taught to play bass. There was definately slap involved!!
20.
being repeated in the mornings as we speak on "rockworld" sly channel 368. Well - to be precise they're currently running the recorder, guitar and drum lessons. Not seen the bass or vocal ones as yet.
Cheers err Barney, worth keeping a lookout
21. Hi, if there is one piece of advice - play what YOU want to play, it will help keep your motivation up in the early days. Oh, and you'll never stop learning, or be good enough - tis a life long battle
22.
The Geddy Lee signature is a nice bass & finished beautifully, but it's neck is sooo thin that it pitch shifts when you lean backwards or forwards while playing, LOL. Just traded mine the other week at Sound Control for a new S1 MIA Jazz. BTW, Sound Control have bought up the last batch of MIA S1 models & they're selling them at £699 instead of the usual £900+
Which Soundcontrol did you sell it to? Have you seen it up for sale there?
