1.
Hi LemonCello I am the Guitarist in a band with a Singer and Drummer. We are in our late 40's and early 50's and are looking for a like minded Bass Player. We play Blues and Classic 60's, 70's Rock and have been rehearsing down at the Music Box Cardiff for the past few months. We are working on a set to hopefully do a Gig. Give us an audition we may be just what you are looking for?
Hi Guitman, Thanks for the Pm. Perhaps I ought to tell you a bit more about myself, experience etc. I dabbled with the Bass more than 20 years ago now and not in a big way. Learned a few songs but never gigged. In the intervening years I played Cello for Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra (and others) so I have a classical background which helps with understanding music. Two Glastonbury's ago I caught Blur's reunion on the box and Alex James's bass playing inspired me to take up the Bass again so I've been having lessons with Jon Caulfield in Cardiff (excellent session guy, you might know of him). So, cards on the table, I've never gigged with anyone (if you exclude school boy stuff). I can learn stuff pretty quickly because of my previous music training and am keen to rehearse but am a little wary that you guys will be a good way in front of me due to your few months of playing together. Perhaps you could let me have a set list (audition tracks) and I'll have a look at them before joining you (if your still keen that is). My mobile number is 07854 792843 if you want to give me a bell. Cheers, Gary
  2. How has this not gone? A serious piece of kit for the money I reckon. LC
  3. 47 year old (own teeth) sounds like an ad for Dateline? wants to get playing in the Cardiff area with like minded individuals. Covers would be fine to start with. I've been looking at Gumtree and ads in my local guitar store and all the bands looking for Bassists seem to be comprised of 12 year olds? Prefer the rockier type of stuff, Zeppelin, Thin Lizzy, Rush, Police, Queen. Rehearsing at the mo with a view to perhaps gigging would be fine. Cheers, LC
  4.
With the bridge and pickup you'll generate a bit of interest but unfortunately these mods whilst improving the playability and tone of an instrument don't earn the invested money back for you. I think you'd do well if you got much more than £150, especially in the current climate.
Just been eyeballin your collection. That choccy brown 78 P is just the most gorgeous thing. Does she play equally well, I know some 70's Fenders suffer build issues? Just stunning tho! LC
  5.
Recently built up a Precision with a Jazz neck, all with bits from ebay collected over a couple of years. Used some pickups Squier I think, that were lying around and was sorely dissapointed. Have now fitted these; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kent-Armstrong-Preci...=item230957122e Theyre great, it sounds loads more like an old Fender than my 91 Mex Precision does. And for the price, well worth a go I reckon.
Cheers I'll check them out. LC

  7. Agree with all previous comments. Just traded some gear with Andy, all arrived on time (day before in fact) and brilliantly packaged. Cheers Mate! LC

    Squier VMJ

Got mine from Sounds Live about a year ago, great guys to deal with ex demo and £100 quid off RRP. First impressions were good, nice slim maple neck with blocks. (These are not block inlays but appear to have been superimposed in some way onto the fingerboard). I'd like to know how they do that. The quality appears to be high, no rough or unfinished edges and the neck has a satin finish (my preference anyway). The PUPS are Duncan designed (Not Seymours for this price but work very well). All in all unbelievable value for money these squiers. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend. LC
  9.
+1 to that, change of pickups can dramatically change the sound of yr bass, even between different models by the same manufacturer. I`ve established that the pickups I prefer in P-Basses are those from the US Standard Precision. Have tried others, but these seem (strangely enough) to sound more like a P-Bass to me than any others. No need for upgrades in mah town!
Thanks for the advice guys. Was just wondering if the stock squier PUPs on these things were pants back in '96.
  10.
b b b b BUMP
Drooling, salivating, trouser issues!
  11. Just bought a '96 Squier 50th Anniversary Precision. Does anyone know what the stock PUPS were on these and whether replacing them will make a huge difference? If so, I could do with some recommendations please. Ta LC
  12. A friend of mine has a nice 70's Ric 4001. One of the PUP's has given up the ghost and he wants to preserve the originality of the Bass by having the PUP re-wound. New PUP from Ric is £110. Any ideas on where to go? LemonCello
  13.
... and (nice) price?!... although not so bad cf. an Alembic SC/ss, which is the only thing with which I could compare it (!)...
Jon Caulfield was looking for a nice short scale a little while ago. He's on here under that name. Top bloke and impressive professional player. LC
  14.
Hi, thanks for the offer but I'll have to pass. Really need to sell this.
I'm amazed this hasn't gone considering the condition? I guess a single 15 is not everyone's cup of tea but these really are top quality thump boxes! Good luck with it. LC
  15.
This hasn't turned up yet - have you sent it? If not, please miss me out as it turns out I already have a copy!
Alex James inspired me to pick up the Bass again after seeing Blur 2 Glastonbury's ago. He's a very talented boy, not everyone's cup of tea on the Bass but does lots else besides, cheese farmer, orchestral conductor and interesting on Classic FM. A gander at the book would be good. LC

I must say I was very impressed. If my memory serves me correctly they wanted a little under 600 quid for it. Good luck with the sale Tom
  17.
Hi Gary No its not got much wear mate, Obviously as its 16 years old the frets arent super clean and are marked but nothing that hinders playing and would not require refretting. Heres some zoomed pics for the minute; Cheers David
Thanks for posting the extra pics David. I don't know how this hasn't sold tbh. How do you feel about £90 inc postage? Gary
