1. Little hard case containing: Tuner Mains Lead 2 Speaker Leads 1 Patch Lead (for tuner) 2 Instrument Leads Spare strings Electrical Screwdriver Fuses Wirecutters Roll of electrical tape
2. The perfect knob will stand out
3. I've had a look around ebay and places, can't find anything I like
4. It was 90% expected.
5. Recently got a 6er with EMG 3band eq (5 pots 2 of which are stacked). I don't really like the plasticy knobs that it came with though, does anyone know where I can get some nice ones? Got to be black, but possibly with a nice abalone insert, or something like that. I saw some on the internet the other day which were aluminium, and I can't remember the website. Cheers
6. One updated sig
7. Now Sold
8. Ah cool, it does play and sound as good as it looks, so I'm perfectly happy. No idea what I can describe it as in my sig / when someone asks me what it is though Ideas anyone?
9. Sorry they're late, been a bit busy with gigs and stuff, but got some pics now.
10. Yeah will do I'll get various pictures of it The original ebay ad (that the guy we bought it off had bought it off... if that makes sense) states that he bought it from your shop (the Bass Place) in Newcastle around 8 years ago as a second hand Overwater for £1100, and then went on to have a new neck fitted at a later date by Jim Cairnes (although he spelt it wrong) of Middlesborough. I'll presume he was a slightly careless owner or it was used a lot as even the replacement neck looks like the head's been clattered I'll get some pictures of it asap though, probably tomorrow.
11. Cheers for clearing that up I'll have a closer delve, the first thing that made me suspicious is the control layout, and also the shape isn't quite the same as the Perception / Progress series, it's very similar but not identical. Either way I'll have a route around
12. Just down to how everything fits, but you never know. I'm not a pessimist though and as you said, you're sure it's a good bass, which it is
13. Fair enough. Makes for a nice custom
14. Ah right, it's definietely a bargain and a half And I'm more than happy with it which is what counts. So has it possibly had an Overwater body put on it at some point then?
15.
Whatever way you look at it, it's a nice bass...enjoy!
Exactly It sounds amazing, looks amazing, feels amazing - win win situation really. Oh and it's lighter than my 4 string Warwicks
Howard (Bass Doc)owned Bass Place in Newcastle.
Ah right, was Howard anything to do with OW?
16. Cheers for that That was plan B come to think of it I'll probably email him, means I can send some pics. Apparently it was bought from the Bass Place in Newcastle before it shut, but didn't Chris have something to do with them?
17. We were going to put the £300 bid in, but ran the risk of someone going for buy it now, so took the view that if it's not genuine, it's a good deal, if it is genuine, it's a bloody good deal. It certainly feels like an Overwater should do though! So with Oldslapper's information in mind, and my own knowledge that it still feels like an Overwater, and is built like one too, what are the odds on it being a genuine Overwater Custom 6?
18. Well I bought it and it arrived today, I'm still not sure if it's a genuine Overwater, it sounds just as good and plays just as well as other Overwater's I've played, and the fit and finish is pretty damn good too, although it's clearly worked for a living. If it's not genuine, I don't care, I still love it
19. I just use a Boss TU15 and it goes from the tuner out on the back of the Trace. Much more convenient than having to unplug and plug in the bass and such, it just has a short green patch lead and it sits on top of the amp Bit of a pain when you're playing and forget to turn it off, such as when I did Sweet Charity last week. The trombonists response (who was sat in front of the amp) well at least you're fretless playing's in tune
20. Have a bump
21. I've got a 6er on it's way to me with an Ebony board, so it'd be interesting to try it out and compare it the the fretless which is Ebony too It's actually that suspicious looking £500 Overwater in the ebay links thread, at that price it's worth a punt and as I'm playing for various shows at the moment, I could do with an inexpensive 5 / 6 stringer. If it plays well and sounds nice, for the money I'm not arsed if it's a genuine Overwater or not, but I'm gunna be doing various bits of research to see if i can find out what it is
22. Depends on the size of the gig, for small pub gigs, Peavey XR800f desk to mix and power 4 monitors (2 peavey, 2 homebrew) and a pair of EV SX100+ ran from a Bell poweramp. Also got a pair of Studiomaster VX15 Subs, ran by an Ecler poweramp
23. Got your PM mate, unfortunately Reddish is a tad far for me, and commitment is a tad tricky as I'm doing various shows at various times. Also, I'm moving up to Huddersfield in a couple of months, so further away
24.
Do you chaps all abandon the existing kit for the new bass? How long before you return to the others?
Nope They all do different things which given the amount of styles I play, I need. In a couple of weeks I'm playing for a production of Sweet Charity, so natural choice is the fretless Warwick, or possibly the EUB. Also been asked about Boogie Nights, that's a job for the Wal, and Jesus Christ Superstar is best suited to the fretted Warwick. So really it depends what I'm playing If i'm just sat noodling at home though, I tend to find myself reaching for the Wal.
25. I'll let youtube / The Brick - Yard argue my point about Syncros being miles better than Defenders (not that Defenders are bad or anything!)
