I'm still active on TalkBass, 'though. It does have a lot to offer, if nothing else because it's a much larger place. The idiots tend to be more visible, or loud, or both, but just like here... it's part of the view. Learn to ignore them, and both forums have a lot of good things to offer. Exercise discretion, that's all.
In 2007 I had a warning for using the word 'tits' on TB. This wasn't the main reason for opening BC but it was one of them! Funnily enough, BC's forbear 'Bassworld' was created off the back of a thread on Talkbass called 'British Bassists' or something. We thought "We should have our own forum". I rarely visit any more but I've always found it a friendly and informative forum. ped
I never received a warning on TB, but I often quietly roll my eyes and bite my tongue at ridiculous actions/statements by "moderators". It really smells funny, their style. Or maybe is the sycophantic attitude of some towards moderators that smells funny. Regardless, if that is a contributing factor to the creation of what is now BassChat... I LOVE YOU, MODERATORS OF TALKBASS!!!! Ha!

Can't believe you charge 'so little' to post For Sale ads
Discreet Like it. I'm high-fiving that one. Which just goes to show that not all Scotsmen are dour and without a sense of humour!
but did you have a knife on the other hand? -
Nice bass, eh? And indeed, the 35" scale made no difference whatsoever to me. Because I read the specs, otherwise I'd have thought it was the standard 34".

Disabling or replacing piezo tweeter in MarkBass CMD121P combo?
mcnach replied to mcnach's topic in Amps and Cabs
Apologies for dragging this up but better that than starting a new thread... What were the results of any of these modifications any update? I bought a 121P and rather that disconnecting the tweeter I took it and the 'crossover' out of play completely by connecting the speaker lead that comes from the amp output directly to the speaker. Sounds great to my ears and no need to consider a replacement tweeter. And completely reversible. Steve
Sounds like I might do this myself. I have the HT-30, but after cutting away the excess plastic I realised it does not fit perfectly in the hole, and I didn't feel like starting filing away (won't need much, 'though)... but I should have tried that. -
Andrew and I just traded basses after a few PMs back and forth. The only thing that could have gone better is that because of the distance involved we did not get to meet in person! He was a real pleasure to deal with, he let me know when my bass arrived and he packed his bass nicely for me too and kept me informed all along. The stuff BC dreams are made of I wish all my transactions in BC could be as easy as this. Thank you! I hope you enjoy the Lakland.
Jose is THE best person I've ever dealt with on BassChat. great correspondence, very laid back, one of those guys that give BassChat a good name.. deal with this guy in total confidence.. thanks Jose.
The cheque, to the same address as the bass?
He's been putting these types of covers out for a few years now, he used to post them on here. At first one thinks 'wow, how awesome! ' then the novelty fades. Then it's just some dude slapping to every song under the sun. As you can tell it did little for me. That's not to say he's not a very good bass player, I just didn't like it.
It's not JUST some dude slapping He works out the arrangements and plays rhythm and melody... there's a lot of thought behind the choice of notes he plays and how he plays them, and he does it with flair and having fun... His version of Master of Puppets is pretty cool too. You may not like it, and that's fine. But there is a lot more behind each version than "some dude slapping along to every song under the Sun", what a narrow-minded oversimplification
These threads where we trash other artists are always completely f***ing depressing. Easily the worst thing about this forum. Even worse than my behaviour in Barefaced threads.
Ha ha, agreed!
Ha! I knew someone would bite! Actually I liked it and it would be a shame if he kept those talents to the bedroom. I just watched his exploits on the Balalika, brilliant!!!
Heh... yeah, I agree. I'm pretty sure he must be taking his wares out onstage... he doesn't strike me as your typical bedroom player.
but does he play in a band?
does it matter?
No not at all. Sorry for the confusion. What I am saying pertains to what I know about the Milwaukee Market. We have several known top notch players who do not play without a fee. I guess there could be other good musicians that play for free. Maybe I'm just a different cat, I can't imagine a musician playing in a band at a bar for 4 hours and the bar is turning over money like crazy and walk out empty handed. Blue
No, I think you're right. I think the people who play for free might play 30-60min typically max. It's a "fun" gig. Playing four hours is a job, you'd have to pay me, especially if money is being made around me and I am contributing to the vibe. The longest gigs I play are about 2h, typically. We play originals, and most are about 45-60min, and maybe a third of all our gigs are longer (90min-2h). You don't get the very long gigs playing originals... We sometimes play for free (or for a burger and beers and petrol money if out of town), but we don't do many of those.
If you're in an originals band and someone tells you what bassline to play surely you should politely tell them to go **** themselves? If you're new it doesn't matter how the bloke before played it. He's not here now is he?
I don't know about that. You arrived and a song was already there... shouldn't you start by playing "the song" first? The bass doesn't play on its own, if you change something it affects how what others play sounds too, and you may thing it's better... but the band may not agree. New songs? Hey, you have free reign, and the song will develop together, but existing songs... you are free to propose changes, of course, but don't be surprised if the band prefers it as it was (and they may have been playing it that way for quite some time), and it would be arrogant for the new guy to take the view "I change what I want, because it's my instrument and my idea is better"...
£294?! Makes me feel like a sucker, thinking how much I paid for mine! Unbelievable price for an incredible bass.
indeed! that's less than what I paid for mine... SECOND HAND! I guess mine will be with me forever now, there's no way I'd sell it for £150-200.
