Hi Mick, How heavy is it?
Hello mate, According to the Aguilar website it's 98lbs the same weight as the other GS 410 they make. I have the castors for the cab but if I were you I'd carry it and make Hindmarsh help you, after all he always needs a bit of exercise to keep his kite in check!!
 2. Totally skint Rockabilly family guy trying to justify new G.A.S. Was going with DB212 as we couldn't afford the Db410, but my wife might just go for this!! Hopefully!
PM sent
 3.
The modern Overwater instruments are fantasticly well made and sound great... IMHO (but after a fair bit of exposure to both brands) they sound similar to a Fodera
Oh no they don't............
 4.
Are you interested in scaling up to a Bergantino NV610?
I love the sound of Bergantino cabs but the absence of a tweeter in that particular cab would kill it for me, I've just played cabs for years now with HF units. However I bet its fantastic combination with a DB 750...
 5.
I feel sorry for your neighbours if those gain and master settings on your DB750 are for home practice! Killer fodera
No, that would blow the house down! Purely cosmetic effect
 6. For sale 1 Aguilar DB 410 in Classic Black, 4 ohm 700w. Bought to partner my DB 750 which has been sold so the cab is up for grabs, brand new condition. £430.00 Pics added. 7.
Yup, he's got a cool white one with black edges. I'm just amazed that I managed to get hold of one
Hey, You will not be disappointed I played a five string 35" for a couple of years and there fantastic sounding basses, a good friend was the Tyler agent in the U.K. at the time and I ordered it blind on the back of every six string guitar he brought into the country sounded bloody amazing so I took the plunge and hoped Jim Tylers magic transfered to the bass. My only regret is I ordered it with Lane Poor pickups which were very noisy combined with the Demeter preamp a problem I also encountered with Lane Poor in Modulus Flea basses. It looks a killer instrument if you drop me a PM I can put you in touch with someone who can probably shed a little history on the bass. The headstock is a real love/hate thing personally I love them, there was almost as much mass behind the nut than in front of it with my five string, anyway enjoy a very nice bass. Best Mick
 8. For sale 1 Boss RC 20 Xl phrase and loop recorder, in brand new condition still boxed including boss power supply. £100
 9. Hi, Used one of the second generation ones (the type currently available) with a 1966 Fender Jazz for years now and swear by it. It's not a Marcus Miller in a box tone, but short of plugging it into an ash/maple J bass your never destined to get very close to that. What it is is a very usable good quality preamp, small enough to fit into a gigbag pocket and sounds great with a Fender bass. I've owned the Aguilar version and found the Sadowsky to sound better, the frequency centres are the same 40hz and 4khz. I also preferred it over my Avalon U5 finding the flexibilty of the Eq better than the fixed preshape variations offered on the Avalon, altough in fairness the Avalon wins hands down on sound when used as a DI to a mixing console. I chose the Sadowsky for the same reason of not wanting to modify my Jazz Bass with an onboard style circuit, its a good little box. Mick
 10. My vote 1 Gail Ann Dorsey, as of Bowie, Tears for Fears, Gwen Stefani fame as well as her own material. Great player, great voice. 2 Lydia Kaboesj can be seen on numerous posts on YouTube, I saw her playing at the Frankfurt Musikmesse this year, she's fantastic. 3 Tal Wilkenfeld, she's in a rhythm section with Vinnie Colaiuta at 21 years old!!!
 11.
2 words....... ! Lane Poor looks bloody familiar..... why the heck didn't you buy mine !!
Lovely looking bass, I've had three Flea basses in recent years. A five and four string silver flake, and a blue flake four string, the five was bought from SMART many years ago and Ian took the time to deliver it to the Plasa show in London for me when we were exhibiting there. A Really nice guy. The two four strings were loaded with Duncan pickups and IMO blew the Lane Poors away. More of everthing. I also had Lane Poor Humbuckers on a James Tyler 5 string bass (better known for his custom strat style guitars) paired with a very powerful Demeter preamp, on both occasions the LP's were noisy and unimpressive. Enjoy the bass.
 12. Can't believe Jaco Pastorius is on this thread, bollocks!!!!!! He is neither my favorite player or bottom of the list but for gods sake he changed the sound of the electric bass. Unbelievable. My Vote: Mark King. Mark King and Mark King...
 13.
After reading through the Epifani vs Bergantino thread and talking to Ken Jung over on TB im pretty sure i wont like the AE410. I did consider it but i feel from the descriptions of both, the UL410 will be smoother. I really dont want an aggressive mid and the AE410 seems to have it. Not really sure about the Dr Bass cab. i couldn't see a 410 on their website but i have hear about very long delays in delivery times for them.
Dave, This is a very interesting point and one I feel compelled to throw in my two quids worth, don't disregard the Bergantino cabs without hearing them I was fortunate enough to try them recently and they are excellent. The danger here is taking someone else's description literally and spending your dosh on the back of that. Ken writes very informed, balanced reviews of his gear but to borrow one of his phrases your "tone goals " may differ from his, Ken's reference generally being a modern Jazz Bass tone playing Celinder and Coppollo basses. And if you look a little further he tends to optimise various amplifiers with different output topologies, with different cabinets in drawing his conclusion. So it's a combination of the best sounding amp and cab. Cabinet choice is so subjective and I think the tonal idiosyncrasies between two boxes of the quality of Epifani and Bergantino are worth checking out for yourself. On the Epifani front it's worth noting there's a big difference between original UL's and the current series II cabinets, I had the original UL 410 and UL 502. The series II have a rounder , open bottom end with a definite scoop in the mids compared to series I. I heard the full range of series II at the NAMM and Frankfurt music shows recently, if your used to hearing the first generation UL product don't expect the new boxes to sound the same. There's also a very interesting recent addition on the Epifani news page warning of UL cabinet compatibility with other manufacturers amplifiers. There quoting 2% driver failures when driven with Epifani amps, the remaining 98% is being attributed to overdriving issues with other manufacturers amplifiers or user error. The main issue seems to be smaller or artificially inflated amplifier ratings offered by some manufacturers driven into square wave distortion and burning out voice coils. Worth a read as some of the points are valid, however I also suspect that certain other bass manufacturers offering very good class d amplifiers at 30-40% cheaper than a UL 502 might have something to do with it! Mick
 14. Sorry been working away for a couple of days. I think a bash at the Halty Custom Shop could be arranged, I'll speak to Haydon Bridges answer to Gheppeto and see what he reckons. And congratulations Lee, great news that!!!! Best Mick
 15.
Is that Mick B? Paul (H) said you had some Aguilar kit. Unfortunately this is well out of my price range as the S2000 is needing a £1300 service next month. I want to chat about amps when I've got some more cash - I'll maybe give you a call then (if it ever happens!) Cheers Neil
Hello mate how are you? Give me a shout any time, be good to see you. Paul keeps threatening to send me a copy of your album. Guess he's too tight, did you know they got the genetic code for Jurassic Park from his wallet? Best Mick
 16.
I wondered why my lights would dim every now and again... it was obviously Mick powering up this Aggie Shame those things weigh so much I'd have been around to check this out in a shot; in fact when DW mentioned that you had one of these I almost got your number from him so that I could satisfy my curiosity! Best of luck with the sale.
Thanks John. Best Mick
 17. Lee, Hope you're well mate. Good to hear the amp is still working well, I see you still have the Warwick and Accugroove in place of the Proline cab? I would imagine thats a good combination with the TD 650, I found the EBS high frequency's to work well with the soft dome hf drivers they use in their cabs. I brought an Accugroove EL Whappo over from the U.S. about a year and a half ago and used it on a certain gig. It was a great full range box but unfortunately i had to sell it, I couldn't justify keeping it with my other cabs. Nice to hear from you and thanks for kind remarks. Best Mick
 18. Hi, I'm selling my Aguilar DB 750, couple of small cosmetic scratches on the top and bottom from inserting into flight case but otherwise excellent condition. For the unfamiliar you can find the general spec here http://aguilaramp.com/products_amplifiers_db750.htm http://thebassgallery.com/aguilaramps.html http://machinehead.co.uk/index.php/cPath/2...5b9397ce70013fc Legendary build quality, huge tone and massive power. I'll post some pics asap. £950.00 Mick Photos here.....
 19. Hi Rory, I think Steve gives a very informed description of the tradeshow, I work for a loudspeaker manufacturer and have attended these shows for years now. They are very expensive to undertake from an exhibitors point of view when combining the cost of floor space and factor in the Hotels and Restaurants taking full advantage of a captive market with inflated prices. However Frankfurt Messe and Namm are both good shows, Frankfurt being the larger of the two catering for all aspects of the audio industry including sound reinforcement, lighting, traditional instruments and so on.... it's huge Namm is mainly a music retail and recording based show catering for the American market or visiting international distributors, with a larger representation of the exotic instrument and amplification manufacturers. From a bass point of view the likes of Fodera, Sadowsky, Alleva Coppollo, Mike Lull, Zon, Modulus and so on.... you won't see those guys at Frankfurt. Endorsing artists also make a point of being around. If you were considering visiting Namm make sure you pre register as security there this year was strict to combat the sale or the exchanging of passes. My advice would be to look at the list of exhibitors or people you would like to see, there always published on the websites. Call them and see if it's possible to make an appointment at the show or get the name of someone you could talk to, but don't be disheartened if people are easily distracted by dealers or distributors turning up mid pitch. Good luck. Mick
 20. Jonny, You should take a look at the Aguilar DB 750. It's valve preamp stage with a 750w @4 ohm mosfet output section. Depending on you're cabinet choice the DB will comfortably drive a 2 ohm load and give you a true 975w if you want to kill everyone. It's a huge sounding amp with fast transient response and sounds great with any style of playing http://aguilaramp.com/products_amplifiers_db750.htm. They offer a ten year warranty on this amp and the build quality is amazing. It's heavy and expensive but a great piece of kit. Mick
 21.
Your sunburst one may well be the one that I referred to further up the page... did you have it quite a few years ago?
Yeah, I owned it for a long time. It was a great stable gigging bass, temptation had the better of me at the time and I sold it to fund other purchases. One of the very few basses I really wish I had kept.
 22. I've had two of these, both Cutlass 1 Stingray style instruments. One solid black on ash and the other three tone sunburst on alder, the latter was by far the superior sounding bass. Neither had neck issues, I may have been lucky there by the sounds of things. Great sounding basses but I do think you sacrifice a little body to the tone of the bass with the addition of the Modulus neck over a standard MM bass of a similar or earlier vintage. You occasionally see them popping up in the states for around the $1200.00 - $1800.00 mark on ebay. I was fortunate enough to pick my black one up for $890.00 around five years ago from a guy in New York and the sunburst one was sold back to the original owner. There was a trans red one on ebay in Switzerland a couple of weeks ago that was selling for around £1700.00 but IMO if you're interested in one, wait for one to appear in the States and get the advantage of the favorable exchange rate. If you're a MM fan they are fantastic bits of kit and the limited availability makes them a desirable piece of the company's history as well sounding great.. Mick
 23. I had a chance to try this bass at Christmas when my best pal purchased Rich's Aguilar cab. This bass is a killer, sounds amazing and a great weight. Definitely not run of the mill Fender Custom Shop stuff, something a bit special. Good luck with the sale Rich. Mick Bump
 24.
I have 2 mates with DB750's both use a Furman power conditioner and have no problems, I borrowed one for a gig once and used it without the Furman, wouldn't even switch on ? Weird amp..... AWESOME SOUND !!! I hope you get sorted with it......
Just read through this thread and wanted to throw in my experience with Aguilar. First of all the amplifier Flea from the Red Hot Chilean Pipers borrowed (as above) displayed exactly the same issues described in you're earlier post's, however the Furman was used for power distribution (the ten IEC outlets came in handy for FX, radio systems and so on) not mains conditioning and at the time it would'nt have worked with either? The amplifier was shipped from a dealer in the States brand new but ordered at U.K. voltage, a practice no longer endorsed by Aguilar as a number of dealers now stock the products in the U.K. This was my second DB 750, the first I sold in a moment of insanity and regreted it instantly finding it's replacement falling way short of the 750's power and tone. Guess I was susceptible to good marketing from another company at the time! The first came from German dealer in 2000 and was perfect. The problematic American DB was sorted in a matter of 6 days from reporting the fault via email to Aguilar to the parts arriving at my front door. After a very simple thermistor installation (fantastic support from Aguilar tech dept, including detailed high res pics of the installation) the amp has been running perfectly since. I suspect if the thermistor fix has not resolved the problem then something of a more serious nature may be at fault. Lets face it every manufacturer encounters problems, it's how they are addressed that measures the true fabric of the company. What are Aguilar suggesting as a solution? My advice would be if it requires it, ship it back to Aguilar and have the diagnostics carried out correctly. I know for a fact that some major amplifier lines in the U.K. use "Johnny" the local repair dood up the road as an external service centre. So U.K. distributors of certain brands do not automatically offer manufacturers standards on warranty reapirs. I speak from experience on that. Good luck.
