Hi Adrian, There's a specific 'Effects For Sale' Forum, you'll have more luck there. Secondly, you might want to specify that it's the older BMS, as a lot of people prefer these, and they are certainly rarer in 'mint' condition than the newer version. Lastly, PM'd re. the Boss.
Thanks cm261, I'll move it to that page.. Re - the Boss, I'm waiting payment from one user, as soon as it hear back from them, I'll let everyone know. Cheers A

Active to passive...but the passive is sooo good!!!
algmusic replied to bubinga5's topic in General Discussion
Everyone seems to agree that passive and active are two opposing sounds. I don't have much trouble getting my active schecter to sound like my passive brice (both 6ers) although I do tend to use lots of effects. I guess i'd prefer to have the added flexibility of an active pre with a passive switch.
I used a friend's T bass and I like the passive/active switch, as the mix of sounds was great.. The lift in active tone was massive, but the tone and warmth on the passive brilliant -
I like active instruments, particularly on 5 and 6 strings, because I like the added flexability to boost certain frequencies, especially the lower range-for me it helps to tighten things up.It's the same with the upper range on a 6 string. However, the pretty much every one of my 4 strings is passive-There is just something about a passive Precision and Jazz that sounds 'right'.
+1 5 strings want a bit of punch, but fours seem to only work to my ears with passive circuits.. I'm mainly a fours man now.. -
Provided however you are connecting the pair is parallel (mnost are, but anything with two jacks should be marked how they relate). Usually two jacks on the back of amps say 'Outputs (parallel)' or somesuch.
It actually doesn't say it's the terror bass. It must be parallel ? Just being a geek. What would you do if wasn't then?

New Road Worn Jazz - it's got a few issues
algmusic replied to mrawlins's topic in General Discussion
+1 and they will sort all the setup stuff there and then for you - important if you only have a day.
+2 I agree. The bass gallery is the best place I've been when it comes to service and choice in London. They sorted out my 'road worn' bass when it needed a setup etc and it sounds great now. Not the cheapest, but you know if you have any queries, they will sort you out I don't think you should have paid a 'fee' for the bass.. it's their screw up not yours.. but nevermind. What's the name of the shop.. NAME AND SHAME!!! NAME AND SHAME!!!NAME AND SHAME!!!NAME AND SHAME!!!NAME AND SHAME!!! -
ok last question. I have two a 2x10 600w@8ohm and a 1x15 400w@8ohm The amp is switchable 500w @ 4 or 8ohms When I'm using the 2x10. I should keep it at 8ohms. but when I using a both the amp should be at 4ohms.. right?

Thinking of trying a new amp (micro/small amp) - From MB to?
algmusic replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
SWR and EDEN do. SWR do the microlite thingy. Eden get close to the size of the MB LM too with the WTX series (i think that's what they're called). EBS don't so far.
oooh. Has anyone tried it -
It's a great little amp

algmusic replied to Musicman20's topic in Amps and Cabs
Going on description alone I think the GK MB500 (they've dropped the 2 from the name now) is probably a good starting point. The Ibanez Promethean is supposedly quite Markbass sounding so maybe too like what you've already tried. If you decide to sell off your LMIII give us a shout - I'm on the lookout for one myself.
I've tried the Promethean and by all your comments, it's seem the way to go or the shuttle (but I know less about this one)... The orange is tubey, the MB LM is warm so the next step would be more towards the HI-FI... The Ibanez is more Hi-Fi. the mark tube sounds like bad mix of MB trying to sound like an orange... ;-( It's a shame SWR, EDEN or EBS don't do a micro amp.. I think that would open up the other end of the amp spectrum. I've played the Redhead combo and it's great.. a mirco redhead would be awesome -
Grandad Paul! The fender amp in the link ALG sent you is one in my ebay store... its a really great amp, and on wheels too.. very nice sound a clean as a whistle for secondhand. Would love to do a deal for a fellow basschatter, so let me know of it interests you mate Thanks for the mention ALG J
No worries, I've bought/sold items here and it's much nicer through basschat.. including the the usual geeky bass chat :-) gotta love it

The top one isn't a combo, but this would do the trick and does sound great, not too heavy. The others are combo. Feel free to PM etc http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ashdown-MAG-300-Bass...b#ht_500wt_1154 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Fender-Bassman-200-B...77#ht_500wt_928 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/AMPEG-BA-210SP-Bass-...9#ht_500wt_1154 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Ashdown-C115-500-EVO...b#ht_670wt_1139 The Ampeg would be my first choice, then the Ashdown or Fender.. you should be able to get one of these within that budget
I've just bought Logic Pro 9 and I'm dumbfounded by the amount of options. I reckon it could take several years to try out all the configurations available, so thought it might be useful if people shared any tips, or signal paths they use to get good results from recording bass in Logic? Do you record straight into your interface? Which amp simulator/effects work well? What settings? C'mon, I'm a lazy, lazy man, and I'm looking for a quick fix! Andy
To get you up and running find either someone local either on here or a mate.. offer a pint or two and they could take you through a few things to get you started in a few hours.. if I was local, I'd help you out. I remember what it was like starting out
I have had a good look through the forum over the last couple of days, and have found it very interesting. I have specifically looked at peoples experiences with amps, and as is to be expected, "one mans meat is another mans poison". Just what do you all think is the best combo I could buy for £350. Give or take a quid or two. I would really appreciate your views on this. Thank you gentlemen. Grandad Paul.
what sort of stuff do you play and what volume? do you usually plug into the PA, so you're using the your amp for monitoring What have you played in the past? liked and disliked? There are lots that come to mind 2nd hand or new (2nd hand you get a higher spec amp)
-
I think it depends.. just getting an idea down = Plug straight in (DI). If you're recording something with a bit of something = If you have sansamp, those work great into logic IF you have time and are looking experiment = Use a 2 or more recording input for bass. Mic the Bass cab and DI striaght and or sansamp or something like it. Also the sanamps are great for life work. You can go into the type of mic and positioning as well (and multiple mics), but it's all a personal taste thing and I thing sometimes find, it doesn't make that much difference for a home studio. I personally find most plug-ins sound very 'aritfulal'. I might use a plug in after I've recorded, but not usually during recording. Also if you have a nice bass DI might be the best route...
Me too. It was way too hot for the desk at the Half Moon on Saturday. First time I've gone DI with it. I had to go Sansamp to PA and through OTB set flat with the gain right down for stage. Sounded great though.
I love the sansamp and take mine to alot of gigs.. I just wanted the DI form TB as it sound so good... It's also a good back amp :-) if you have good PA, the FOH never know. The sansamp sounded better than a SWR 6x10 rig at FOH.. that was a funny festival when I worked that out

bass string 55's, flat and plastic coated questions??
algmusic replied to algmusic's topic in Accessories and Misc
I've just changed from Roto Trubass to Roto flats. Only had the flats on for a few days so can't comment other than to say the G string feels like a razorblade. I'm hesitant to slide my finger along it for fear it may cut me. That said, it may just be in my mind as I've just come from the black nylons, which are much thicker. Black nylons: lovely and warm, great for the plonk, plonk, plonk parts that I play. One thing I will say about them is that the B and E strings feel very plastic. Hard to describe but it feels like you're playing a solid (but flexible) plastic tube rather than a string. I use my thumb so it's not too bad but it felt 'wrong' playing with fingers; there's very little feel/feedback through them. Lower tension so they move about a bit more, especially near the neck. As stated, I'm a roots-and-fifths guy; I think more technical playing would prove slightly more difficult than usual with these. I had to file my nut to fit them, too and, because the strings are thicker, there's less gap between each string, meaning you have to be more precise with your fretting hand. If you've any specific questions, just ask. Oh, should it matter, the silk on these is gold. Great if your hardware's gold; not so great with brushed metal/chrome.
Wow what bass are you using? also what pick up, My P sounds more like and acoustic and the J is more warm and groovey, but not plastic-like on my bass.. I've found my strings nothing but smooth -
All argeed... YES :-)

New Road Worn Jazz - it's got a few issues
algmusic replied to mrawlins's topic in General Discussion
Take it back and list the points you mention - some may be easy to fix (eg, the foam may be a bit compressed under the pickups so that they don't move with the screws as they should), other may be more worrying (eg, loud G or dead spots). if they have a decent on-site set-up person, they may be able to sort these out with little/no difficulty. Either way, they are obliged to replace if its not fit for use. RW Fenders are not cheap and should be perfect!
I agree take it back. I bought a 2nd hand roadworn tried it, as it sounded good, but needed a bit of setting up, but then took it to the bass gallery just to tweek etc it and it's sounds great. But if you buy it from a shop that should do that.??? .three words TAKE IT BACK -
What do you "expect" from life as a musician?
algmusic replied to xilddx's topic in General Discussion
For me music, it's just who I am.. I feel wired if I don't play.. in terms of gigs. Most of my highlights where I really enjoyed myself wasn't the flash recordings/sessions or tours, which were fun, but the silly little covers bands with friends, where we played most of the time wanted we wanted to play and we really enjoyed each other as friends and musicians in our own right. I play in one band were we're all bassist (not all for this gig) and there's never any competition only engagement and a true sense of appreciation.. -
Right, I have the Terror and it sounds great, thanks to andyonbass. I have to wait a whole 10days to give it a good run in :-( , but you gotta go on hols sometime ;-) Just ordered a 40db inline attenuator as the DI is HOT as HELL. It's coming tomorrow
terror bass?!!
Yes mate, I traded it for my little mark 2 yesterday. Life is very tubey and vintage.. still grooving. Works a treat with both basses. Will be using it alot in the next month, so I'll let you know how it goes
