2. Thanks for the help guys.. Imovie and Mac the Ripper worked a treat.. I'm gonna rip out the audio later when I've got time and eq, but till then, I have a great demo vid for now. Cheers Adrian
 3.
I found this review. You may find it interesting. It is part of bigger Ovnilab Compressor Review web site.
I love it.. simple and no noise easy to adjust and you get great tone.. also it's cheap
 4. I generally don't use compressors as I like the natural dymanics in my playing and I try to play consistently (well I hope I do). That said with compression, the simpler the better. I've tried a few compressors and limiters. The ebs pedal is very nice but I found the I really didn't want extra drive as I use my sansamp for that.. so with simple in mind I think the MXR Dyna Comp is king. Simple.. two dials and you're good to go and you get a consistent sound with no noise etc and you can get a real even tone and it's great with other bass effects.. I swear by it and it's cheap, about £60..
 5. If you're DI-ing alot try the Sansamp Bass driver. I bit more pricey but you will get a Tube esq sound which you can blend in plus drive, if you want. It's fun by a 9v, phantom power or the usual pedal mains adaptor. This will add warth to any rig, but will give the front of house a great sound. I usually DI out of that then go into my rig. On acoustic gigs I use this into the desk. My friend used one on a big rock gig, when instead of a bass amp as the amp on loan blew up.. its' awesome
 6.
after reading that you need to rout an aerodyne to use a badass i checked mine last night and it is making full contact all round,i fitted it 2 or 3 years ago and have had no trouble at all with it.i can see the logic that a flat bottomed bridge should not sit well on a curved surface but you cant get a fag paper(thats cigarette paper for us limeys)under the bridge.i can only think that either my late model aerodyne(about 2004)is very flat in the bridge area or i screwed it down so hard that it crushed itself into the body.either way its working very well and aint coming off.cheers
ouch, but I guess it sound great though
 7.
Got it back today! The total repair bill (the replacement power board, labour, VAT and shipping) was £188.01. The cost of sending it there means it's been on a £200 round trip. I guess it's one of the perils of buying an expensive piece of equipment second hand... There is one quite annoying detail though - I'd just clawed my way out of my overdraft for the first time since getting one! Anyway, it's all done now. I'm gonna go play with it.
chin up mate.. buying new still may not cover your ass.. you could just miss the warranty on getting it repaired. it is a pain though
 8.
Hi Adrian While you can try and use iMovie if you are acually happy with the footage you can just extract it from the DVD using this piece of software: http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/14414/mactheripper It's quite straightforward but you'll need to look at the instructions, obviously , basically this will create a VOB vile, which you can then open and encode with this piece of software: http://www.squared5.com/ You'll need to have the Quicktime MPEG 2 component installed on your Mac, it costs about £15 but will enable you to encode your video to the right spec required by Youtube. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/ Alternatively once you've created a .mov file via the MPEG Streamclip software you can import the clip into iMovie 8 and if you look on the 'Share' menu in iMovie there should be an option to upload it to Youtube. The good thing with this is it will ensure the quality doesn't dip and you can choose what qualoty you want, you can even go High Definition if you want, just follow the instructions, and make sure you uncheck the 'Set to private' box so the video will be public..... I hope all that sounds OK, it's a bit complicaed at first but essentially once you have ripped the footage from the DVD and created a .mov or mpeg file via the MPEG Streamclip software you can just upload a file to Youtube, iMovie is just the icing on the cake Hope that helps, any questions just ask Mike
Thanks, I'll give this a go.. Sounds pretty straightforward Adrian
 9. if you've got logic or garageband or something, borrowing 2 good condenser mics would to the trick and record in stereo. Try se1's they are a good start.
 10.
iMovie is very easy to use. Throw the video in, turn off the sound track. Crop to the bit you want. Throw in sound file, line up with video, crop to right length. put a fade in from black (if you want) add a fade out to black (if you want) put title info at the start export to movie file I do it all the time. My iMovie isn't the latest though, it's version 6, I think that the later ones are a bit less obvious and a bit more complicated (I could be wrong)
I've got version 8. I'll have a play
 11.
They still do. This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XEiy5X3Wf3g) is a clip from one of our gigs there. Not bad quality for something edited on the fly - but it costs you £40-£50 depending on how hard you haggle.
well, I have the DVD I'd rather just upload it, if I can.. is a bit pricey
 12. Hey, Basically, a friend recorded a gig on his video camera for us at the ole bull and gate, kentish town. I've been given a DVD of it and I need to edit it so I can upload it to our myspace/you tube. The next thing I'd like to do, but this is just bonus, if I can take the audio from the from camera and eq it through logic, then bounce it back into a video. I hear I-Movie is good. I have no idea where to start Cheers Adrian
 13. Hi, I'm a pro (whatever that is) bass player and drummer with strong Bv's (occasional lead) I'm available for gigs, recordings, tours, functions etc I'm low maintenance ( I don't have an ego and I play for the music). I do my homework, and learn fast, even if it means someone adds a song on the night that I don't know on the night ;-) I have over 15years of gigs (still only 29 ;-), with major label artists, bands, functions & teaching. If you're looking for someone to make the music feel good, call me.. I have pro gear and transport for more info www.algmusic.co.uk or http://www.myspace.com/adriangrahammusic Thanks Adrian 077401 99396 [email protected]
 14. OK.. It's now going for £300
 15.
bassists are too cool for blackberry's.... ;0)
the reason why Iphones have better apps is because everyday people make them.. it's quite funny really.. It's really apple it everyone.
 16.
Then, get a used SM57 (you will see them more than any other mic ever I would suspect) and one of these: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/en/behringer-c-1/67828 Its crap in the grand scheme of thing but will give you a solid idea of where the differences are between the dynamic (57) and condenser mics. I would also advise that time invested in faffing with mic position will be a better investment than rolling lots of money into better mics early on. You will learn more from listening to where the mics are than what they are. The above will also give you a couple different sounds. Good luck, its a load of fun. G
If you're not happy with you're live rig.. I'd just get a sansamp bass driver second hand and record though that.. you get a great sound as you can blend in tube or solild state sound it'll improve your live rig.. when I'm really lazy.. I just plug that into the pa and use a monitor and the sound in amazing. I just use that to record most of the time even on a pro recording.. it's very handy
 17. I played guitar before only because my best friend was playing bass when I was a nipper.. I'm glad I played both, I wasn't improving very fast on guitars, so I switched back to drums. I then played drums for a long time and occasionally bass, I got better at bass... Then I started playing alot of bass and alot of drums.. I do both professionally now. I do about 2 gigs every 3 years on guitar (last one 2weeks ago).. but it really helps with your musical awareness.. I'd say the same for the keyboard. But i've always loved the rhythm section. I think you're see things in one or two ways and that makes you that musician.. The whole guitarist into bass player doesn't work, if you want to be good!!!
 18.
Without wishing to court undue controversy, I'm going to disagree with this a bit. Not that I've got anything against people being the best musician they can possibly be, you understand. It's just that I suspect that the most important qualities in a bass player have little to do with musicianship. Like being reliable - turning up when you're supposed to, with whatever gear you're going to need; doing stuff you've agreed to do when you said you'd do it, whether that's learning songs or printing off flyers. Being honest, friendly and constructive in your dealings with fellow band-members and others (fans, promoters, other bands, sound-people, bar-staff etc). Not having an over-inflated ego. Stuff like that. OK, if you have all that in spades and no musical ability, you're still going to be a sh*t bass player. On the other hand, if you have none of those qualities, you can be the greatest musician on earth and still be a sh*t bass player. If I had to recruit a bassist, I'd be inclined to pick the reliable, friendly plodder with limited abilities over the super musician who's a nightmare to work with. Just my 2p.
It's funny in my humble career.. the first thing people say about someone is: great guy, then great player.. I think you gotta be easy to work with. I know some great players I'll never call because of there attitude.. and I'll probably give someone who is willing to work a bit hard to hit the mark, if I know I can rely on them..

 21.
To be unnoticed, but missed when you stop playing............. .....sorry, I meant... be as fast and complicated as humanly possible, so that guitarists can all say "bass players are failed guitarists".
I really like that one.. I was playing drums for a band and a guy call Matt Round was on bass. It was funny I only noticed how good he was the minute another bassist stepped in to dep.. I was like "what's happened to the groove....??!!"

 25. This 2x10 (400w @ 4ohms) cab is definitely the best cab I have ever had. As a working musician I can recommend that this cab produces a sound that reflects your bass and sound. It gives you all the warmth, clarity, punch and bottom end you could ever want from a powerful 2x10. It’s great for all styles and music situations. Its sounds just as good very quiet or rocking out loud. I've played this on a fair size stage and could still punch through with real tone The cab is in excellent condition. Used but never abused or over driven and comes with a custom made cover. Retail £660. I'm selling it for £320 I’ll be sad to see this cab go, but I have had to sell it to buy more studio equipment as I record more these days..
