1.
i've got a genz benz cab at the moment which sounds great with my shuttle, the thing is i'm a bit skint so i'm selling the whole rig but the only interest i've had is for the head my question is. can you use a bass cab with a guitar head, as i could sell the head and get two cheaper guitar and bass heads to use with the cab i'm not sure if that would work ok or not, any advice is greatly appreiciated. thanks in advance
I think you'll cry if you do that and hear the difference... technically possible, but I'll be like using a tractor in formula one racing. You get round the track... eventually..the next day
 2.
I just read the words "public transport" earlier in the thread! A bass pulls my arm/shoulder off after 50 yards so I would add a folding trolley and some straps to my previous suggestion.
I take my cab on the PT, so it's gotta be light.. I think man needs the Ibanez... ;-) Good luck
 3. 1x15 is the prefect match with 2x10... warmth and punch
 4.
Having owned a Triple Rec and a Rectoverb I can say 100% that the Line6 approximation sounds nothing like the real thing. It totally lacks the Mesa's aggression and punch.
If still seen it both ways.. the quality of your sound has 3 factors: the quality of: the Player how well the equipment is used (eq-ing etc) The sound guy and his rig I've had a great rig on stage and sh*T and the audience had ash*t sound. the sound guy was awful... I think the key is know your gear.. The sound I give to the PA is usually my sansamp, which technically means, I could play without an amp, if the monitoring is good.. remember, unless it's small rig the audience hear your DI sound not your actual amp unless it's big big gig and still, i've had the guys still use the DI
 5.
And the answers are: 1. Who cares it's an appropriate sound for the track. 2. Who cares it's an appropriate sound for the track. 3. Who cares it's an appropriate sound for the track. Can you spot a theme yet?
I agree.. It really doesn't matter.. I traded my pod for a sansamp, just for preference... it all just doesn't matter, just get the right sound for the song
 6.
for me, a passive jazz bass and an ampeg is all I ever need. change the mids when needed and I'm ready to go. I might be bit of a purist deep down, and I would be willing to give amp modeling a go, but i know it would never feel right. I've never heard a good line 6 guitar amp, and I've played on loads. the tones sound too glossy and plastic.
That's great, just when you get older and you're doing alot of gigs.. you might thick technology can help you're back so you can walk when you're 50.. I'love the old stuff, must the new stuff is light and when used correctly, no one knows
 7.
What does god say you should buy?
I think the fact no one replied to your comment, might argue it was distasteful. The man is just asking for advice from a supposedly friendly bass forum.
 8.
it would seem that you are the goon for trying to sell a used guitar for 20 quid less than they are brand new
sorry, I agree with Rob_89.. its's bit of an insult really. I'd buy new for that offer
 9. SWR no questions... but if you are a finger style jazz/funky guy the Promethean is handy as you can take the head out and use the head at rehearsal studios etc.. (food for thought). They sound pretty good, i've used a friend and it was great, just take a gig or two to work out your sound and amp has enough kick for an extension cab, if you need it.. have I just changed my mind and gone for the Ibanbez.. I guess I have
 10.
On CD, MP3 etc - NO Stood in front of real amps - YES Can modelling sound as good as tubes - YES Do most guitards use them to their best - NO
I agree.. I've been great recording studios with great vintage gear, but the engineer was sh*t, so you get s sh*t sound. I've worked with a friend with my sansamp and logic and because he was proficient at it it sounded miles better than most analogue recordings that people that say they use 'vintage gear' it also depends on your the use of it.. if it's everyday, I don't think people can hear the difference especially on crapped compressed mp3's.. on a expensive hi-fi.. probably I love the old school vibe and analogue, but like a friend said to be ' buy the time they compressed the sh*t it and eq'd out the tone it really doesn't matter it won't change the song. that said, on a recording for function band earlier this year.. 3 bassist using the same rig except different basses and I used my sansamp in my setup with a classic amp svt 8x10 rig.. mine sounds different, yet all the others sound exactly the same. interesting.. www.habitlive.com (i'm in the rock band) So it's just a personal preference really
 11. TC electronice to an app called the polytune.. it's very good ..look it up
 12. this tread has been the most interesting the thread.. it's funny really... We all just want to play, enjoy ourselves and not spend money on repairs we didn't cause.. I think it's a shame that people can't lend their gear, but these days people generally don't give a f*ck out you or your gear so we have to say no.. that said in some circles there is mutual respect, but the venues, the originator is talking about.. I think not maybe if all bass players read these threads, we'd be able to lend our equipment... wishful thinking, I know
 13. not to be devil's advocate.. the 2x10 would be more punchy.. so if you wanted a bit more punch then try the 2x10. not quite the same at the 2x10, 1x15, but it would sound different. Also I've found that 2 2x10 sound quite different than a 2x10 and I don't mean just louder. Just a thought.. try both
 14.
We have hired this venue in question before, and they run a clever system: Venue & Tech hire (you have to use theirs) is £280. Venue capacity is 50 (plus bands). You cant really charge more than £5 for a venue that size... So even if you sell out it'll cost you £30...
I've solved your rig share problem.. don't do the gig. Don't pay to play mate
 15.
I understand that you're under pressure here and that buying a spare amp would just "make it go away" but there is something to be said for standing your ground in these circumstances. How do these other bands rehearse if they have no equipment? I know it's easy to say on here "tell them to go forth and multiply" and harder in reality to actually do it but I think you're going above and beyond the call of duty on this one. You've been stung before, you're clearly uncomfortable about it, so to anyone who is asking, say this: "the last time I let someone else use my gear it got broken and cost me more than £800 to repair, so the answer is no. Sorry." If they question it say this: "I understand what you're saying but the last time I let someone else use my gear it got broken and cost me more than £800 to repair, so the answer is no. Sorry"
Preach it mr bass player...
 16.
At risk of ruining another night's sleep for you: what happens if the first band breaks the combo, and the promoter asks to use your rig for the rest of the night? Will you refuse? S.P.
I find it a laugh that someone would bring two amps!!! I wouldn't, Id just say NO to using my gear.. and use as DI box.. If I know them, they can. I'm grateful, i don't get in this situation, but a simple no is .. simple. On the point of people saying that an amp should be gig proof.. some players.. and I say this loosely, don't know how to treat their/my gear.. so to save me the stress................ FU*K OFF bring you're own bass!!
 17.
Most of the venues I play in have house backline, so I don't need to worry about it. I've had to take my rig on 3 occasions and any sharing's been arranged beforehand, myspace messages and the likes. Our drummer lives a bit out of town so tends to give me a hand with it seeing as he's got the car and passing anyway. My cab is vastly overrated for my head (will take 600W, is getting 230W max in 8ohm, it's on permanent vacation!) so I'm not worried about it being blown up. No need to get precious about settings - I know my settings, it doesn't take long to get it back if someone's changed them. The only thing I won't tolerate is drinks on top. Thankfully I've never had to intervene yet. As long as I have a quick chat with the bass players in the other bands first I'm pretty relaxed about it. In general I've had a positive experience - people generally respectful of gear and even complimenting my rig (which is hardly earthshatteringly good, but I guess it's a damn sight better than nothing). I resent assumptions being made about the availability of my equipment for sharing. I'm just not that into amps. I've come to the conclusion that as long as you can hear yourself on stage then that's half the battle. Tonal nuances are for recording and solo playing. Basses are another thing entirely. There's no way on God's green Earth that I'd loan a stranger one of my basses for a gig.
I was playing at bar music hall in london the bloody guitarist put his bear on the edge of his amp, the problem was my EBS cab amd MarkBass head was right behind. I got up on stage and told him to move it, as I couldn't put my cab anywhere esle. It costs nothing to be "rude" and say move it, but it will cost you a grand or more to replace it if you're polite
 18.
I was once doing a gig with my covers band when a bunch of lads turned up and told us that they were supporting us. Great,no problems-less work for us. However, when they said that the promoter had told them that they could use our gear,we told them that they couldn't. We'd got another 2 or 3 gigs that week and didn't want to risk anything. We told them to bring their own gear in and set up in front of us,but they hadn't brought anything with them other than 2 guitars and a bass. They went home. If I'm doing a multi band gig,I always have at least my Roland Cube 100 and a DI box in the car-and that is only when I'm told that an amp is 'supplied'. Otherwise,I'll take my normal rig. I don't really buy the excuse that it takes too long to change the gear over. If my band can pull down a full set up of amps, drums,PA etc., and be on the road in around half an hour,I'm sure you can change a backline over in minutes. I don't think it's a lot to ask that you carry your own gear...even if you don't use it. If you want to gig,you really should have an amp.It doesn't need to be great-hell,my first gigging amp was an old McGregor Keyboard amp. It might not have been brilliant, but it allowed me to gig until I could afford my first Trace Elliot combo. Also, drum skins do break..........if you abuse them. If the drummer is playing correctly they can last for a long time.
I agree, I'm a drummer aswell as a bassist. I play very heavy rock to light jazz, and I have never broken a drum skin. On some gigs they can't believe that I'm playing that loud.. ITS BECAUSE PLAY CORRECTLY!!! On the borrowing amp thing. I've for Markbass LM2 and an orange sp210... the answer is easy..NO (you just have to grow some balls). On the flip side you can't to borrow someone's gear.. don't be a hypocrite. I bought my rig so I can take in on the tube etc.. also if I'm really lazy, i'll Sansamp it... I don't lend out my drums much like my girlfriend ;-)
 19. as an sp210 user.. buy it. It's bloody great. I'm using a an LM2 but till I pay off the car no terror for me.. sniff sniff

 22.
Cool man - glad it all worked - phew! Share the results when you're ready Mike
this is the rip from DVD via Imovie but I haven't ripped out the audio to eq it.. It's slighty distorted, but hey.. it's camcorder mic, but I'm sure some a little tweeking will help Here is my very first youtube upload http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TNjyGCfG1Nk as usual, hardly any bass, hence the need for eq
