1.
Sounds like a deal to me, especially if they will let you store gear there as well. Had a similar deal with The Tardebigge out by Bromsgrove in the late 70s. I think they went off the idea when they realised we were a 'new wave rock n roll band' and not a covers band doing Tie a Yellow Ribbon They kept their side though, even though we rehearsed 3 times a week, I dont think we ever got round to doing the free gigs come to think of it.
I dont think any of us will be leaving gear there, maybe the kit if we practice on a thursday night before one of the free friday night gigs although if we did buy a medium sized pa between us the option of keeping it there might be worth looking at, the function room is upstairs and the people live on the floor above so its very secure. We could take all the leads and the mixer away then chain the cabs together by the handles which would stop anyone else using them and the chances of anyone carrying them down the stairs would be nil then too, Hhmmm food for thought
2. I dont think there will be much of a written contract anyway Dr Dave, if we dwindle off practicing there then they wont hold us to it. The landlord knows the score too and we might never get past the practice stage, you know how it is! 50 pints was a good deal
3. Get the Frodis bass clef app, it's really good! Check out the bass clef yts thread on here that crops up from time to time, it has some good links and advice, bass clef wizard game is fun but be warned its addictive!!!!! I'm a great wizard myself under 1 second per clip average, took me f***ing ages
4. I'm not sure a shuttle would do the job as well as a Streamliner? I prefer the shuttle but then I don't really like Ampegs! As for vintage basses, I'm sure they have something extra, sometimes for better, sometimes for worse. A 15lb Fender is no fun for a 2 hour wedding set for example! On the other hand I'm yet to try an EBMM Ray that's as good as my pre EB one
5. I won't leave any gear there Jose, it's not worth it plus I can carry my 1x12, bag and an SR5 in one go
6. That's a great idea Chrismanbass! Pa for practice will be no problem Lozz, just one of those little Peavey fold out jobs will be enough for that, little cocktail drum kit, small guitar amp and me with a 1x12. We have between us enough bigger gear to do upto maybe a village hall/medium sized pub anything bigger will either need a hired one (£150 with a sound engineer if local) or we buy our own between us at a later date.
7. The pub will be fairly flexible on the gig dates I'm sure and a couple of gigs there will be handy to get us started anyway. I'm glad the pa thing is up front too, it's often the bug bear! They (guitarist and singer couple) have a decent vocal pa for small gigs and we can hire one for bigger ones at a reasonable price, I'm not keen on clogging up my garage with speakers.
8. We are just getting a fresh band together, pub set and wedding set yet to decide and learn but we have all been around the block so started by having a meeting without instruments first to discuss it all, pa situation undecided but at least out in the open right from the start, practice venue was discussed and we have got a function room above a pub right in the middle of us all every Thursday night for as long as we want as long as we do three free gigs a year for them? I think that's a fair deal, what do you lot think?
9. DJ and a band for £300 sounds more than fair to me, the 'paid practice' is a slippery slope into getting feck all for the rest of your playing days and just makes other bands reasonable prices look steep IMO.
10. Mate thats a bargain, I know everyone says it but I really would of had this but we are booking a week in San Fran for May so its never going to happen for a while Have a bargainous bump from me though, I would even trade my 2010 Ray5 and some cash for it.
11. I wanted to go and try it but we are booking a holiday in the next few days so I cant find a way of getting it past the other half looks real nice!
12. Awesome and jelous!
13.
[sup]I've heard the NEOX range is good......even though I am not convinced about NEO..for some strange reason.[/sup]
Maybe that's why then
14. Yes I have a GB Neox T 1x12 too, I need to try two of the front ported ones next to my Neox T 2x12 to be certain I guess.
15. I have not heard a pair of 1x12s sound as good as my Genz 2x12 which either mean that the Genz is the best or the pairs are slightly comprimised compared to a single box with two speakers inside, which even as a Genz fan boy will admit is more likely. Surely the missing piece of cab must make a huge difference as far as the tuning of them is concerned so how can they be tuned the same etc? I know we have been here many times before and my ears still outrule your science when it comes down to it from my own point of view, Im not saying your wrong but I can only go on what I hear not what I am told I should be hearing under some kind of scientific experiment.
16. For most situations I think 2 1x12s would be enough for most of us anyway and has its obvious advantages, I have a 1x12 and a 2x12 so the only problem I have is if I dont know the size of the venue beforehand I have to take pot luck or take the 2x12 to be on the safe side, that said if you have 2 1x12s and dont know you still have to take both anyway.
17. I am still not convinced 2 1x12s are the same as a single 2x12. A good 2x12 compares well to a good 4x10 IME/O
18. another like here
19. Neither of my shuttles have ever gone into protect mode even on really hot days doing 2+ hour sets, I stopped taking any notice of the lights years ago
20. OOhh I did not know that! On Marks site I just saw the 18-25 year olds bit, I should really just save up but where is the fun in that, surely the idea is that you fall out with your other half when you get home? There is nothing worse than having a new toy and not being able to use it because of some stupid meal out or night at the cinema
21.
Reminded me of this http://www.rollingst...s-toss-20081120 http://m.youtube.com...ZbbgVw7Jg&gl=GB
I thought that was going to be the opening clip in this thread, happy days
22. Such a versatile player
23. That scouse lad on x factor did a version didn't he?
24. I'd love a Gibson grabber or one of them Ibanez artists or whatever Kris Novoselic used but he managed to kill most of them!
