1. OK sshhh , dont tell anyone else then and we should be OK
2. That is what is good about music, something can get to one person and not another, dare I say I dont dig Jaco for example, I have tried but nothing is doing
3.
So you don't think his compositional skills and harmony are individual and interesting then? OK I just listened to your recommended Marty Friedman clips, they are solos over minor second riffs, so how are they in any way comparable to what the kid in the op is doing, which is far more compositionally and harmonically complex?
Not really, If you listen to loads of Megadeth or even some Metallica you will hear loads of that sort of composition in my opinion, nothing wrong with it but it doesn't get me going like it does you, it is all good, horses and courses etc
4.
With respect, you are talking rubbish. What measurements have you used for; build quality Graphite Reinforced headstock and neck with a quartersawn neck, stunning tops if you like that sort of thing (I dont really) hardware standard Better bridge design and Hipshot tuners on all models, string reatainer, stainless bridge parts rather than chrome, neck bolts. range of tones. Active/passive switchable more pickup choices with a wider range of frequencies available, coil selection on some models.
5. Why can't Fender fans accept that they are not as well made as other basses?, I love my Stingrays but the USA Laklands are better basses than mine, I am happy to accept that, they use better quality woods built to higher standards ie Quarter Sawn graphite reinforced necks, Better neck bolt construction, reinforced headstock joint areas, Hipshot tuners etc etc I am not going to win over any Fender fans so it's not even worth going there but these are why they are better basses, they have a better range of tones because err they have more tones available? passive active, MM P J pickup choices with split coil selections etc etc how is that even debatable?
6. Have you all done your homework and made a details page? I have typed and printed, Lol
7. You know when I was typing last night I was thinking I am sure I have seen a truss rod, Lol just looked and there it is right in front of my face Never touched mine to be honest but its worth a try isnt it.
8. Not knocking his ability but I heard Tony Iommi for the intro then the licks were very much Megadeath note choices IMO, for me it was like watching the Jeff Beck and Tal clips but a bit more metal inspired, sorry Check out 1.30 or about 7.30 for how it is meant to be done http://youtu.be/b7RoTZtiS1Q
9. I used to play a 55-02 quite regularly, it was better than any USA Fender for build quality, hardware standard and the range of tones available never mind the Mex, the USA 55-94 is even better still but it is 3 times the price of a Fender, probably not 3 times better but you can say what you like they are better than a Fender, they just are, as they should be
10. Ebay Logo on order?
11. Thats only hitting stuff though isn't it? *runs away*
12.
Actually, no - my Hayman is currently my only bass...
Touché
13. You could probably shim the neck a little, I've not had the neck off so its worth checking to see if there is a truss rod inside, anyone here know? How high is the action?
14. I understood the now sorted but as you can see there were issues not easily rectified, but its your bass and you are now happy so thats cool.
15.
My Fender Jazz Bass is over 40 years old and hasn't got anywhere near that amount of wear on it. I think i'll have to do a relic job on it in case anyone thinks it isn't genuine.
There is a saying in the classic car world something like..."of the 3456 Lotus Cortinas built only 5234 are still on the road". I think it looks pretty good anyway Angel.
16.
I don't like stickers on basses
Hasn't yours got a Fender one on it? I'm sorry I couldnt resist
17. Half the time these heros people have here are nobodys to the next guy on here, that doesn't make them not nice people but I'm sure half the time people mention a player on here loads of fellow bassists have not heard of them, imagine what the general public think if you throw these big names around? I'd need to google about half of the names so far
18. I'm glad you are happy but what about "the softest maple neck in the world, fibres in the laquer, sanding marks in the finish"?
19. I am happy with three elec basses, I try and use them in turn as much as possible and a fourth would mean quite a while for the first to get a gig right now, that said I would like a Lakland 55-14 soon but I cant see me getting rid of any of the 3 Rays even though that single Lakland would cover all three existing basses, hhmmm
20.
Not played a 'Classic', if I was buying a new 'Ray and had enough money I'd be looking at those first (although if I had that sort of money I'm sure I'd be looking for another Pre-EB!). I don't think they have any magic, they just suit me perfectly. The neck is quite wide (top to bottom) but also fabulously slim (front to back). Not sure I'd notice the board radius but I'm sure that adds to the feel. Do the maple Classic 'Rays have one piece necks (i.e. no separate fingerboard)?
There is the faintest of lines I think which indicates they must cut the board off and put it back on after cutting the truss slot or use a matched piece of wood, mine has no skunk strip anyway but it is a seriously good finish and the board has birdseye markings just like the neck on mine, they are nothing like a standard EBMM neck at all. I only have one because of the 5 string, I was very happy with both my pre EB Rays that said these classic s are really nice!
21. I would be tempted by another pre EB ray if it was in mint as new condition and if it was Inca Silver even though I would not really use it enough, it is the best colour IMO.
22. Inca Silver with a graphite neck, no it is horrible.....
23. I would definitely take a budget bass with a high end amp over an expensive bass and a cheap amp, I am not that fussed these days really and never been a slave to the J nut P nut, fat neck thin neck blah blah blah anyway so a well set up cheaper bass with a fresh set of EB strings is fine.
