Confirmed. I recognised none of the people in your photo.
That's the sort of scientific proof I like. -
I will confess to occasionally trying out someone else's bass after a gig - but only if they handed it to me unasked!
I like a gear stalker, I'm always happy to oblige a polite one -
I'm really no good at singing and I can't do lead vocal and play easily either even though I can multi task in general, I find it really frustrating when you work with someone that pauses doing their work to chat, come on lets work AND chat!
I once saw a guitarist packing up after a gig in a very crowded blues festival fringe venue come back from loading out the first armfuls to see two drunken girls having a go at the rest of the kit - and it took him a scarily long time to push his way back through the crowd to stop them. I suggested he and his mates should invest a few pennies in hi-viz vests - at least they would have got through a lot faster!
I must say it's mainly been trouble from you girls joining in unannounced Josie -
As a classical musician I've never liked typical audiences for classical music, but reading this I may have to reconsider. At least they were never drunk, and they wouldn't wreck the instruments or the stage.
I doubt many of the folks at the gig on friday had ever been to a classical performance, I wonder if they'd still shout for Sex on Fire between each song? -
I think the only people who say that theory will make them a worse player, is people who have never studied any, and claim it will stifle their creativity.
Yes I have heard it said that "it would" but never that "it has", funny that eh?
Fair enough. My point was that it's not enough to just play scales up and down the neck. If you do, your lines will sound like...well...scales.
Brian May guitar solos!

Trust the drummer to forget his hat! I like those sort of gigs, they tend to be the ones where the audience appreciate live bands too.

I like the finish as is, an old pickguard would look good as you say. -
I have just kinda semi retired only work part time now just fancy brushing up on things i've ignored i doubt very much that it will make me any better but just curious to know a bit more
Well I've never met anyone that said "I've been spending a few hours a week looking at theory and its made me a worse player! ", go for it.
-
Even though I've never been particularly short on gigs and have no intention of doing it full time I still wish I'd started learning theory (in very broad term) years ago, I doubt I'd be gigging any more often but they'd probably be a higher standard of gig in the same category. I have too many hobbies and not enough time to really get stuck in now.
I'm not sure that I should be excluded from the category, now you come to mention it.
I suppose the difference between one idiot behind the kit and another is that some idiots can actually play them? -
Of course, we've yet to solve the trickiest question on this subject... Exactly what does one do with oneself during verses of Alright Now?
From quite a few jam nights I've been too the etiquette has been, play the guitar part
Its good practice to pack away the mics and drumsticks as soon as the last note stops ringing, 'cos everyone is a singer or drummer after a few shandies! If I have my decent bass, that goes straight into the gig bag too..
If it's a pub where we are on the same floor level I normally would or I'd keep the stage area in sight, with this one raised up, 2 djs watching and it not being a tight for space room I was quite surprised, we were only gone for two minutes! -
StingrayPete has it. Sell more beer, your fee should go up.
Top and bottom of a pub's business model isn't it?
You got paid for doing a Christams party for care workers. I bet you even mic'ed up the bass drum.
Well it was a ballroom style room big enough for 300 people, I know you like your PA that fits in the guitarists boot but I think your 8" FOH speakers and unmicd kick would have been struggling in there -

Well I wouldn't have just turned up for the fun of it either, it was a fun gig with a financial reward -

One of the best things about those full range RCF tops is not having subs for the dancer's drink to be put on. (Before we get any smart arses, the RCF sub in the picture is the DJ's paired to the smaller non full range versions of our tops ) -
Office parties, the worst kind of drunks that there are, two sweet sherries and they think they`re George Best and Oliver Reed rolled into one.
This time they were all women, well I use the term women VERY loosely. -
I had to extract a punter from behind the kit on NYE last year, he couldn't see what the problem was. Lucky for him it was me that caught him and not the drummer....
Drum kits are magnets for idiots! You can read whatever you like into that -
The MU standard contract contains a clause plainly stating that the kit is not for the use of the client, but I doubt any of those bozos would have had sight of your booking agreement!
Haha I'm not a member, it was a reference to the 'playing for nowt' thread, we do have insurance but I doubt they'd be keen to pay for damage to our kit as it annoyingly is there to protect the punters from us, how ironic! -

I haven't got any 'budget' basses since selling all my 4 stringers, the US Jazz V is my cheapest one now, it's collecting some mojo along the way but I'd rather it be my damage than from the punters! -
Most of my gigs are Hampshire / Berkshire / Surrey. I guess average fee is £250. A few places hit £300 and one is £350 but there's a couple of small places who don't go over £150. We play the little ones because we know the managers and they are usually a nice crowd. Oh, and we play one place for free in exchange for free rehearsal time. Every ten rehearsals = one free gig
Same kind of thing here, we actually got £400 last week, in a pub! Second time there for us and the till was bursting at the seams both times, we heard the door staff were turning people away during the second set because the place was too full, if only all our gigs went so well I have a trio that does the cheap gigs, still ends up £50 each and we are not really playing anything suitable to go for the party/function scene but the little venues have a regular crowd of music fans that appreciate actual live music, had some good nights in those little quirky pubs.
