1. I'm not sure if Blue has this term? If not I'm sure he'll agree with it anyway, "never mix business with pleasure".
2. I've never had to wait two weeks for a reply from Thomann.
3. The only people I've seen do it are those who can't play when you give them a bass to pose with
4.
One thing I learned long ago is that you can never assume that PA will be adequate, if there's any at all.
Again I'm working on the basis that the OP will be familiar with the PA at the gigs if it's function stuff?
5.
Been there. Imagine doing all that you've said and being told that they are getting the original bass player in because they landed the support slot on the comeback Blur tour. It hurts. Move on. It'll rip you up otherwise.
And look where it got them
6. I've never owned a bass with the same nut width to bridge saddles width, there can only be one pickup position where it can line up to every string, all MM,P,J neck,J bridge pickups would need altering for different models of the same bass, I've got the grooved saddles on my Jazz V, you can't quite get any of it to line up in any formation, that would proper mess with his ocd!
7. Bolt on neck is unusual on an acoustic bass isn't?
8.
If they're all the audience hears the lows will be weak. They're small, so they won't have much in the lows best case, and up on a pole where they need to be as PA mains is the worst case for lows, as they won't get boundary reinforcement from the floor. Used with subs handling the lows as they should be they'd be fine, but that scenario isn't what the OP is dealing with.
If it's small/medium functions I presume there will be a foh to go with the amp, should be able to handle purely monitoring duties, let the PA do the real work?
9. If you can fit a baton first fixed into the breeze blocks with decent screws and rawl plugs and a squiggle of no nails on the rear of the baton in will be super strong! Failing that just make sure you fix into the blocks and get a hanger with a wide base or make a spreader plate from nice wood to stop it pulling the hanger into the hollow area behind the plaster board. Putting the hanger where a 'dab' is would be best.
10. Entonces, ¡Me gusta tu nombre!
11. Ha, have a peek inside.
12. I'd be interested if they made a signature version of the one he's actually using now, with a B string too.
13. I think by house band it's because they will only have a few gigs on still, bank holidays, I doubt it will ever be a weekly thing in the sense we might think of as the house band. Two or three over a year period would suit us.
14. It's because they haven't learnt to play yet!
15. Message received this morning. Dear guys.😏Having assessed the playing area I've very reluctantly decided that we cannot fit into the Bowling Green Saturday. However!!-The pub is having a big renovation in February & there will be a designated band area. The manager wants us as the houseband for all next year. We've been promised the first gig for Easter and probably most bank holidays after then.😊
16.
Bear it, but for the full agreed fee. If the LL really can't see why he should pay you in full, ask him if he'd also be happy to reduce the price of drinks to your followers by a quarter
That's not a bad idea, the playing is the easy bit of what we are being paid for anyway, still takes as long to set up and pack away!
17.
Wanna borrow my subs? Looks like you'll need them.
Maybe to stand on!
18.
I thought it looked familiar! There isn't much room in there at all. I can see why you are a bit concerned. Why can't you have the function room?
That could happen yet if we know we have enough of our own coming but the idea is to keep the diners in rather than them walk into town. It's technically quite a big venue isn't it, daft to try and fit in that bit. We were on the right as you go in last time, set up in a row ratger than drums behind which was ok and the drummer shares some lead vocal songs anyway.
19.
Play the gig. Look at it as a challenge: How to sound good with reduced kit and finite space. Could be a very good learning curve and better than you think. Negotiate the original ££s or Blue will never let you live it down
I've agreed to go with the flow, if it happens I'll give it my best
20. Very rarely T-bay, it's the Bowling Green Lichfield down the road from you. There's a big empty function room too! Last time we were in a long narrow area.
21.
Beautiful and moving. Any excuse to post this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d5nYX-iuUFk
Just chop the s off the https
22. The LL probably doesn't realise how many people we have planned to bring in, if it wasn't so near to xmas so that most venues are already booked we'd just change the venue and take our followers and their beer money elsewhere!
23. Yes the guitarist has already said he will insist on the original price regardless. Ta
