    Hi @Rich. Yes I've suffered with this for years as has @NancyJohnson. I think there is a thread regarding his exploits somewhere. 

    My right ring finger locked folded some time ago and I ended up having steroid injections. The jabs relieved it almost over night, but you can't keep having them.

    I then went on to some fairly intense physio which has kind of held it at bay. I still wake up feeling like i've boxed ten rounds during the night and both ring fingers are stiff as hell, but they ease off during the day.

    By evening (gig times) they're workable, but I sure know about it the day after.

    The ultimate solution it have the pulleys cut, which I think is what @NancyJohnson had done. I'm on the verge of needing it, but am getting by without taking that step - for now.

    Hope the injections work for you. They definitely helped for me, but it's not a permanent solution for everyone.

  2. Firstly, it irritates me beyond belief people posting links with no context. If you're going to post something at least give us a chance to decide whether we want to click on it by giving a description, even if it is brief.

    Secondly, I don't think the lady above (aneesastrings) is miming at all. The whole of the audio is out of sync with the video, the vocal and playing.

    A little naive of them really. If that’s unprofessional, then there are a lot of major recording artists on tour at this moment that are unprofessional as well.

    There are a lot of big stages that are littered with prompt machines that look like monitors. The singer in my Bowie band used to have one. Good pieces of kit, but not cheap.

    I don't blame you. If I had to sing/remember lyrics as well, I think my brain would melt 🤣.

    There's a few bands I have not taken this approach with, one being the Bowie band where being tied to any form of notation would not have served the show very well at all.

    I did have one A4 sheet for a couple of shows when we first put Wild Is The Wind in the set. I think I tried too hard to learn/remember it and it just wouldn't stick for some reason. Bit odd really as it's not the hardest song in the world 🤷‍♂️.

    The other one is the Queen tribute. No dots for the same reason.

    The 80's show I've done so many times now there wouldn't be much hope for me if I couldn't remember it after all this time.

    The rest = iPad/OnSong all the way.

    I thought that at first, certainly when I was using in isolation at home, but when you put yourself in a live situation it really doesn’t - to my ears anyway.

    My interpretation of ‘Dakota’ is that it’s songs that are being done to death currently.
    I see a lot of bands and I don’t know of any that have Mustang Sally in their set. YMMV.

    I assume by that you mean the songs that everybody does that are bit samey? Well, of your set, there are a few 'Dakotas' IMHO.

    That said, it doesn't matter, because it's all about the execution.

    One of my bands, which is now the busiest of all of them, play whatever we like and it's more diverse than your set.

    We've recently introduced some reggae and ska into what was a predominantly rock-ish set and people love it.

     

    N.B. I'm genuinely confused as to why Long Train Runnin' and Play That Funky Music are still played.

    Another band I play in have both in the set and I'd ditch them if I could.

    There are far better and more interesting songs around.

    At a gig with that band last week a chap came up to us and asked if we did requests. He wanted us to play his wedding song which was Summer of '69!

     

    Worry less about the audience. Different is good in my book, but execution is key.

  8. I'm not even remotely interested in selling outside the UK now, which is a bit of a shame as all the interest I've had in my Spector has been from outside the EU.

    I think the last time I bought anything from a private seller outside the UK was many years ago, probably from @BassTractor.

    I try not to think about it as it makes me quite annoyed in much the same way inheritance tax does.

  9. I use OnSong on an iPad with a bluetooth foot-switch page turner. It’s attached to a guitar stand for dep gigs and is invisible for the most part.

    I dep with so many different bands that there are 100’s of songs on it. No way can I remember them all.

    I use it mainly for song structure rather than dots.

    If you are going to commit to gigging with a wireless system , then get the best one that you can - even if its more expensive than you would like. I've used wireless systems on and off for the best part of forty years, right back to the early Nady systems. None of them were great, so I kept going back to using a lead. Eventually, I got the Shure and it has never let me down on many gigs over the years. I wish it had been available in the 80s when I first got a wireless, it would have saved me a fortune... 

    Well said. I remember those early wireless kits. Not sure if it was Nady I had, but like you, it put me off them for a while. The connection was patchy - not solid, but the latency was completely unacceptable. I went to cable for many years. I’m happy to recommend the Shure system to anyone who’ll listen for the reasons you’ve given, but I’m done with arguing about which is the best. If a £50 dongle does it for them, then so be it.

    Ah yes, Roll The Bones is a great album. I certainly don't dislike Presto, after all, it has The Pass on it, which is one of my faves.

    Test For Echo is the weakest post Moving Pictures album for me.

  13. Barring maybe Genesis, Kiss and Frank Zappa, I’ve probably pushed more of my disposable income in Rush’s direction over the years than any other artist. I have all the Super Deluxe editions and they are things of audio and visual beauty as far as I’m concerned.

     

    A lot of the posts in this thread hint towards disliking vocals, but that’s not what the OP has an issue with…. @sammybee said he was ‘totally underwhelmed by what I heard in the bass department’. His vocal maybe ‘marmite’ but surely not his bass playing.

     

    I’d urge anyone to have a listen to some of Troy Hughes’ bass covers to get a better feel of what Geddy is capable of. Here’s a sampler….

     

     

    As @NancyJohnson said, Caress of Steel is also probably the album I listen to the least, but it’s still listenable for me. I note some listened to Rush up to Hold Your Fire for instance. Presto wasn’t as good, but Counterparts (which followed it) is an excellent listen. Again, Test For Echo (which followed that) was a bit of a dip, the final three albums are right up there in my book.
