No, they're gear.  And bass tuners are bass gear.  Like for like (as near as possible) replacement of a broken (proper broken, not "I don't like you") tuner is the only exception.

Harsh IMHO, but I don’t make the rules 🤷‍♂️

I've no plans for any more basses or pedals but I am after a set of lightweight tuners so I won't put my name down.  I could go through some convoluted justification for them as one of the existing ones is rather clunky but I think that would be pushing it.  Failure isn't a word I would use, though. :)

    Tuners are OK surely?

  3. I reckon I can do January easily. I find myself browsing for basses less and less these days. The new web site at BD has helped as I just cannot be bothered to try and navigate it. My Achilles Heel is friends messaging me about basses they have seen that they (usually correctly) think I would like.

Read an interview that said he took the G string off all together. His tech also said that he pours water over himself on stage a lot, leading to the pickups in his TBird losing output.

I thnk his tech was a bit annoyed with him for that as he said the pickups are hard to source. He also said Mark's not very good in music stores and refuses to try out pedals he suggests. He said Mark only uses a certain Boss pedal (forget which) but won't use the new ones, meaning his tech has to constantly look for old pedals as he goes through a few every tour

He sounds like a bit of a ****, but then he did give Charlotte her marching orders so that fits 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, I guess that works both ways whether you’re a buyer or a seller. I just accept that sometimes you have to give someone a gentle nudge. None of us are robots.

Their "Contact Us" page doesn't list Whatsapp as a means of contacting them, just call, email or submit the form.

The mobile number listed on the contact page IS the number for What’s App.

  7. I've not worn mine since I developed trigger finger and it completely seized with the finger pointing towards the palm.

I've tried it on a couple of times since, but I can feel it would be a bad idea leaving it on for any length of time, so it sits in Mrs.H's jewellery box.

I always did find it much easier playing without it on.

  8. I think you’re going to have to bite the bullet and raise the shelf if you want to use that space for basses in a rack. Even if you find something that will do the job with mm to spare, I wouldn’t want my headstocks that close to the bottom of the shelf as I know what a klutz I am lifting basses out.

I have one of these. Slightly over your max with various 34” scale basses in it. Great stand.

They were ones that we were going to cut if we were running out of time to get to midnight. As it turned out we had plenty of time so played everything.

ps you are not being thick as I also had to ask what they meant 😂

Ah I see. I did think it odd all the X tunes were in the 2nd set. Makes sense now 👍

Back home from our NYE eve gig at The Oak in Sevenoaks. We had our first gig as a band here earlier in the year and so it was nice to be back.

I’m probably being a bit thick, but what do the (X)’s indicate.

Last gig of the year was beset by technical issues. To start with our singist had forgotten to charge the batteries for his wireless mic, so that took a bit of time to resolve, after which it was my turn.

After some random cut outs during our first set, it was unfortunate that the first song of our second was A Town Called Malice. In an effort to find what was causing the – frankly mortifying – breaks, I tried changing over the cables and bypassing my pedalboard entirely, but it was only swapping basses that seemed to solve the issue, and although I think I detected one or two glitches after that it could have just been my imagination.

Thankfully the crowd took it in good spirits and our singist kept that mood light as I abandoned the P-bass and dashed across the bar to fetch the Sire. I managed to get through the rest of the gig without incident, apart from forgetting my coat in the rush to get home for midnight.

It's a good thing I have next week off work as I need to do a deep dive into what the frick frack snick snack is going on with my gear. I'm hoping it's not an issue with the electronics in the Squier as I can't really afford to replace them at the moment.

I'm also well aware of the irony of this happening after I'd started a thread about bringing spare basses to gigs...

I’m so glad I don’t do NYE gigs anymore. I barely escaped before midnight at a gig I did last years NYE before the place erupted which would have put us back loading out by about an hour. The offset of the ‘extra money’ to my mind just isn’t worth the hassle.

Singist needs a kick up the proverbial. Just no excuse for that.

I had the exact same thing happen at a function gig to my USA J. A wire was in the process of detaching from the jack socket. Hope you get it sorted.

  12. There are a few points that are lacking in the OP’s comments. Is the band leader either of these couple? If not, what do they have to say about it?

Have you mentioned that her time might be better served getting her keys playing to a higher standard? Sounds harsh, but that would be my response.

Has she said why? This would be my first question. There is no reason to go down this path if you are a functioning band that’s getting gigs. It just doesn’t make any sense other to serve this persons ego.

I’ve been in bands which have couples in them and they have been a complete joy. I’m still in one and they are a fantastic pair. I accept other people’s mileage may vary here, but couples in bands are not always doom and gloom. Sometimes it can be a good thing.

Personally I think you’re making a rod for your own back by giving advice re gear etc. This will only fan the flames of someone who clearly must believe they can do a job as equal if not better than you. If she thinks she can have a go on bass and not be up to your standard, that’s kind of worse.

Sorry, but I have little time for these wannabe types. In every band I’m in, I want them to be the best possible version they can be. The scenario you describe does not fit that mantra and therefore does not compute for me at least.

should this not be a 3 tone burst with a tort guard?

There is a photo of the original owner playing it in 1966 with that guard on it, so maybe not 🤷‍♂️

Spencer just posted 7+ paragraphs addressing the auctions, scalpers and the pricing. He makes some fair points about the pedal market and the manufacturing industry.

I have to be honest, I can’t be ar$ed to read it.

If he was that bothered, he would put an order process in place.

I guess that would just be a little too much work for $600+ a pedal.

…. thought they should have dumped the opening Led Zep cover and played Middle Man instead... Who needs covers when you have a limited set time?

I thought that was a bit odd. Strange decision that.

Do you know what Pat’s red bass was? Sorry to keep picking your brains 😂
