Depends how tight your pants are and how active you are on stage I guess!

the revised model has a different redesigned rubber cover, still doesn't look much better though, hopefully a tighter fit

I clip it to the outside of my back pocket, so pants tightness is not an issue 😎

I'd not condone putting it in the back pocket as the cable and ariel could be vulnerable

To what? I’m not sure how you would damage one, the Shure ones are almost bombproof.

The only thing I don’t like about the Shure transmitters are the flimsy little rubber covers on the charging port.

They’re useless, but thankfully superfluous. Are the ones on the updated version any better?

Well .. I’ve decided to return my Boss WL-50 and I’ve ordered the Shure GLXD16+ !!

I like the idea of the tuner and dual band

Now question for other users where do you have the transmitter ? Back pocket, belt, strap or strap holster ?

I’m probably in the minority, but my transmitter stays with me, clipped onto the outside of my back pocket. The clips on these are really strong and I’ve not had an issue with them falling off. I like to keep the transmitter with me so when I change basses I can stay with the same pack. I have another transmitter, but that’s on rotation when the charge in the other one runs out.

How does "The Sledge" differ from a  bog standard Ray?

At one stage the amount of Stingrays I had was well into double figures. I’ve since sold nearly all of them, but I’d never sell my Sledge. It’s just a fantastically well put together Stingray. Slab body, the most gorgeous neck and it just has that Stingray sound.

Mine didn’t have the signed card with it and as far as I’m aware, it never did.

That’s a really good price (underpriced IMHO) for what I’m sure is a great Ray.

    GLWTS.

Latency in Groups 1 and 3 is 4.53ms (still on the high side) which paints a different story to the 8ms worst case scenario that the video mentions.

Line6 battery life is decimated because of the output power that the transmitters work at. If you put it into low power mode, you'll find that it will more than service the needs of the average user of their systems. The use of active basses with wireless should have no impact.

Probably just me then. I know I was going through an incredible amount of AA’s and just put it down to using active basses.

Whatever the numbers are regarding latency, I know I can’t hear it and I’m the only one listening for it.

  6. Absolutely agree. I wouldn't go back to cable unless I had to, even for small gigs.

Latency with the Shure is a non-issue as far I'm concerned. To be fair, the Line 6 was also spot on in that regard, but it ate batteries like they were going out of fashion. That rattled my confidence with it somewhat as I mainly used it with active basses which seemed to exacerbate the issue.

Not at all !! But my valid point is why spend over £500 for a “ tour grade wireless “ when you rock out down the pub at a weekend !!
Granted my bass, amps are all pro gear high value ( sensible not outrageous) but you do have to weight up if first it’s actually needed or nice to have etc or a must have and your funds allow it.

I think there's an argument for questioning the need for wireless at all if the gigs are all pub based. The only reason I bought one was because the 80's show requires movement on sometimes quite large stages. That said, I do also use it for pub/club gigs because it's already on my board. I'm not sure the GLXD even qualifies as tour grade. You can spend an awful lot more on more powerful units.

Yes, it's expensive, but in my opinion, it's worth it. I've probably saved its value in AA batteries had I still been using the Line 6 🤣

I tend to see that bands playing larger venues and earning better money can justify the cost of a Shure unit

But for many pub and club bands all we need is closer range decent enough wireless which I think most of the Line 6, Boss, Smoothound, Lekato, Xvive, etc offer a good solution.

As mentioned wireless for me is close range freedom not 20m away in a huge auditorium!!

By that rationale, I assume you’re one and only gigging bass is a Harley Benton?

It’s the fact that I have never ever had a drop

out or any problem with them for years now.

I’ve used others early on and had issues with them cutting out, especially the Line 6 G50/70 and even the Sennheiser too. Clashes on frequencies too when others in the band have used similar wireless stuff. Even when we all sound checked and selected different channels there was always an issue. Aeroplane mode on phones etc selected too, still has problems.

Once I changed to the Shure, I never had an issue, drop out, clashes or any noticeable latency at all. Whether playing to a few hundred at a pub or 10k festival stuff, no problems ever. They just work, well. I’ve used multiple packs with one receiver on the pedalboard and they swap and select with ease. Oh and it has a built in tuner of course, runs off either the Noble or a Cioks DC7 and not a bother.

I do use a Boss WL50 at home when I’m swapping between basses etc just noodling but I’d never gig it again. The shure is the dogs danglies.

You spend all your cash on basses, amps, pedals etc, loads of time practicing, fuel to and from rehearsals/gigs etc, why wouldn’t you buy the one bit of kit that makes it work without any issues ( yes it’s expensive) ?

    Obviously just my opinion.

Or a decent lead of course 😂

It was your opinion that convinced me to try the Shure unit and I heartily second every word of the above.

The other thing I like about these is they’re built like tanks - transmitter and receiver alike. A real solid piece of kit.
The batteries last for an incredible amount of time on a single charge and I’ve had no drop outs either.

I tried a little experiment in an open air amphitheatre during sound check last year and managed to get about halfway to the top of the seated area before there was any signal dropout.

Saw some of the ABC one. Love the album, enjoyed the interview sections, but felt the show was sorely lacking something (although couldn't put my finger on what). As for the rest, the only one that really warrants classic status IMHO is Frampton, and why choose a Dexy's album that isn't Searching for the Young Soul Rebels?

Very much so. 'Searching' is a far better choice. There There My Dear was easily as good as Geno and both were better than Come On Eileen - IMHO.

Frampton's is a bit of an odd choice as it's a live album comprised of songs from other albums 🤷‍♂️

  11. Just flicking through the list of albums I currently have in my music library, I been struck by how few that I’d regard as classic would be able to be performed by their respective artists as they’re either inactive or dead. Quite depressing really.

Sadly I don’t have Sky, so won’t be able to watch the Simple Minds episode which is a shame, as I really like them. Likewise ABC. I remember seeing Heaven 17 perform Penthouse & Pavement in its entirety. That was excellent. I wouldn’t mind seeing the Stereophonics episode, but the rest leave me a bit cold.

Desperately trying to think of an album/artist that would fit in here. Maybe Joe Jackson performing ‘I’m The Man’? Pretenders performing the first album? Supergrass performing ‘I Should Coco’? I’m sure I’ll think of more after I’ve hit Submit Reply.

There's a venue I used to play regularly and EVERY band was aware of the punter who was there every week and without fail he would stand dead centre in front of whoever the singer was and shout at them to do some Zappa!  The first time it happens, it is disconcerting but you get used to it.  I did once suggest we learn a Zappa tune for him... where the hell do you start with that one?

I seem to recall one of the basses took just 3 days door to door from Tokyo.

That’s very quick indeed. We so rarely hear about the excellent courier service received.

I used DHL to get a bass to Belgium fairly recently and it went door to door in less than 24 hrs.

Depends on the bass. On my Spectors I pretty much max out the onboard EQ.... gives me the bite, growl and punch I love.

I think if I maxed out the EQ on my Euro X my speakers wouldn't last too long. Did you turn your trim pot down?
