Are some Basschat Topics & posts getting out of hand?
WalMan replied to silverfoxnik's topic in General Discussion
I think my answer to 1 would be yes, but only with a VERY heavy emphasis on some as most seem friendly & helpful - and I get here most days. As has already been shown a well placed helps a great deal even if you don't like to use them. At the end of the day if you don't like a thread then ignore it and let it die on the vine, don't bump it taking a trolls bait. -
VAT & duties are not my area but looking at VAT notices on the HMRC Practitioner Zone you need to get authourisation on the way out not to get charged on the way back in. Look from 3 onwards HERE
That is so cool! It reminds me a bit of my Wal... I must admit to having always wanted a Shergold but never got around to it but I may have to change that now
I used to have a couple of Shergolds & the fitted flight case I had made for it fitted my Wal perfectly!!! -
Cheers OBBM.. Was completely stitched up by Stingrayfan of course (Hi Matt ) ; I believe the magazine needed someone to help broaden it's appeal to the older, more miserable looking reader.. Haven't seen it yet but will lounge around the newsagent tomorrow trying to look cool, waiting desperately for someone to buy the magazine. Which in Littlehampton, could be a long wait!!
You could always have a look at my subscription copy when we have that pint Nik. I shall be ready to prostrate myself in full Waynes World "We're not worthy" mode

+1 to all of the above, especially the splitter lead which I have had great fun with recording

That'll be Worthing Assembly Rooms for the Live Aid gig. Like I said before I just wish the video bus had worked so that I could relive it on screen not just memories, but hey memories will do me. Brilliant night at a time when we were doing all original stuff (and it didn't matter) & with a set that night that we had worked up really tight for changes with some leeway for audience participation that ended bang on the end of allotted time.

Hi & welcome from one of two members here in LA - sadly that means Lil' Ampton & not LA so rather than But we call it home That was one helluva "Sodit I'm changing my life!" move you made there. Good on you Al

+1 to that I bought a cover for my Markbass CMD121H from them over ebay. It arrived in about half the quoted time (though I presume as a fairly standard cover they may carry a stock) Not as padded as the old Tuff cover I had for the Trace 122H, but I got that nearly 10 years ago and they seem to have gone out of business now. Otherwise the Roqsolid cover does the trick and is certainly a lot stronger than the lightweight manufacturers covers you sometimes get that fall apart in no time flat

My Wal will never go. I've had it years. I can't say it was my first good bass because there were a few ok ones before it, but it has been with me through thick & thin, it sounds marvellous, and I love it!! I know I surprised Nik by saying the Wal was semi retired, but that's new toys for you. For some reason I am less worried about harm coming to the SUB5, which is NOT to say that the Wal will be wrapped in cotton wool and put away as a collectors item!! -
How may Basses do we own collectively on Basschat?

What he said although beware photos. Also look at what else the seller may have for sale and compare backgrounds in the pictures There seem to have been a spate of items where pictures & even text have been lifted directly from Gumtree, so if you hit two or three of the above a quick search of Gumtree doesn't hurt. There was a guy who got flagged up here a couple of months back who was a very new eBay registrant with negligible feedback, but who was auctioning a lot of high value guitars & basses. A quick search of Gumtree London in that case found nearly all of the items there as well but clearly being offered by many different sellers dotted all over London

Until recently mine was 1 x Wal in Wal semi flight 1 x 6u rack with BOD Pro xt, IEM transmitter & 2 Behringer effects racks 1 x small metal case for the rest of the radio bits (transmitters & receivers) plus leads, batteries, throat lozenges 1 x metal toolbox for screwdrivers, soldering iron, and the floor tuner my guitarist uses (and actually offered to buy off me a couple of weeks back so that I am no longer his tuner roadie ) 2 x small light boxes - because no one wants to play under a 40w bulb, but none of the others are willing to store / transport them (lazy bustids ) 1 x A frame guitar stand but after my recent GAS the Wal has been semi retired and the MM SUB5 tends to come out to play together with 1 x Markbass CMD121H I still seem to be last out of gigs despite that fairly small list, but that is probably because 9/10 times my gear is stuffed at the back so I have to get it in early on set-up and cannot get to it straight away after until keyboards set up in front of it have been moved. That and the fact that none of the rest of the band seem able to write so I have to deal with the venue for cash etc
It would be interesting to see what the valves actually are.
The manual for the Vintage Tube Overdrive VT911 - HERE - says
BUGERA 12AX7B vacuum tube
-
A couple of other forums I am on have "Currently Listening to" and/or "Latest CD" threads where you can do just that and perhaps point others at stuff they might otherwise not have come across.
-
Do they actually have a valve in them. I could not be sure reading the Behringer page or am I misreading
This high-quality classic tube overdrive pedal is based on a hand-selected 12AX7 vacuum tube
- my italics. I can see what appear to be slots on the front to allow air to a valve, but that does not mean there is one. EDIT: OOPS! yes it does. Just re-read the manual which points to where the valve is inserted. My apologies for doubting them!! Otherwise, I have nothing against Behringer stuff as such, I have two in my rack after all Then there is the VINTAGE TIME MACHINE VM1 on whose page it says
This product is currently not available for sale in the United States and Canada pending verification of compliance with applicable technical standards and regulations
and presumably the outcome of a lawsuit from EH
Big Freekin Cabinet
Yes I had something along those lines confirmed to me by the guys at Trace when I took my 122H up for them to look at years back

Friday. Well I hated the sound but the crowd were good & I just got the following email so it can't have been that bad!!!
Hi there, Have to say what a brilliant gig you did at the RED LION Stubbington on Friday 7th, Sound was great, new guy added a nice touch good crowd as well ,excellent night .Hope you all have a good Christmas.see you in the new year.
Did it as a 6 piece with some harmony guitar bits (worked out quickly before we started) as keys was available as well as the stand in guitarist and there was enough room. Got some nice comments about my playing too (which was nice) but I'll take them with a pinch of salt as it was the end of the evening and I know I had some major "sticker" moments. Also got "he's one of the best backing vocalists on the circuit" so I know he was pi55ed But all in all as my drummer just said - after I forwarded the email - comment/reaction & emails like that make it all worthwhile Roll on 2008

Red Lion Stubbington, with an overfull complement as I think we have both keys & the stand in guitarist. Lucky its one of the larger stage areas!!!!

Posting eBay bargains... the problem.
WalMan replied to warwickhunt's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Completely agree and I think this has been raised a couple of times. Pretty sure I will end up backing out of an item tonight because of this very issue.
Groove 5? I was sat watching it thinking "I really don't need it but it does look a bargain". Only two bids though (neither mine - sanity prevailed) & a cheap price on the face of it even though it had been flagged here. I suppose it depends on what it is, whether you re really on the look out, and whether it really is that early Fender no one has cottoned onto that you might want to take a speculative punt on - like someone we know around these parts!! -
DOH! Sat & watched it & realised that GAS was REALLY not that bad - and, speak it softly, I bought one of them there lektricky geetars for recording @ the weekend anyway
