2.
ive ordered these Strings planning on using the top 4 and going BEAD how much will i need to adjust the truss rod?
until it's right!
 3. 130 105 85 65 for a low b setup. a friend of mine makes pickups for me by hand at a very reasonable price (less than most ready mades). not active, but i'm not convinced by the need for active pups myself unless you want a loud bright sound which requires less coil = less vol. for a fuller sound you need more windings on the coil which also gives you more vol anyway. here's his email if you want to chat to someone who knows more about this stuff than I. ben (I.M.P) [email protected]
 4. the problem lies (i reckon) in the scale length. the longer the string length the higher the tension and fuller the sound. your b is always gonna be full sounding albeit a little flappy on a short scale (34") instrument. but all the lighter strings will always sound like a 34". you also need custom pickups for a custom sound. pups using bar magnets with more windings on the coil with give an overall flatter and fuller response than pole pieces.
 5.
that epiphone looks awesome
shame about the string alignment on the g3. amazing how many big names get the bridge in the wrong place. bizarre, truly bizarre.

 7.
My two current favourites
i hope your bass doesn't live next to that radiator!
 8.
I suppose if Les had ever made anything as memorable as the Primus stuff on his own then he wouldn't be so intrinsically linked to the band. Because to me, everything after that has just sounded like Primus offcuts, and other stuff that wasn't considered good enough for a Primus album. But they were a band of their time, so relevant with the whole "generation X" that was big in America at the time, when the Red Hot Chili Peppers were still considered edgy and fresh. A great shame because Les and Herb are talented guys (although Les has an awful voice). Herb did two fusion albums with Michael Manring, the band was called 'Attention Deficit'. He showed some real drum chops there, but the music wasn't particularly memorable if I'm honest.
now you're talkin, rhcp. theres a band who i would agree should have given in long ago. aren't they s**t as f**k? i think keidis actually turned into a girl at some point after blood sugar or one hot minute. went from gods to mortals in a few years. thats skag for ya.
 9.
The Idiot King was a great album. Also had the benefit of Alex Skolnick too.
bloody nora. testament? now theres a blarst from dee parst
 10.
I give you the ugly sticks.
funnily enough, dingwall i can live with.
 11. green is good. hasn't nasa just found a green blob somewhere out there? bass rig heaven no doubt. i wonder if my old rig is up there. i like to think so.
 12.
Same here. This time last year i was playing a Lakland DJ5, then i got a Lakland Duck Dunn (my second) but im more taken with my CV P than i have been with a lot of my previous basses. Maybe its the lack of funds tied up in a bit of wood and metal that makes me happy. Have these new Squiers been beaten senseless with the ugly stick, or are they the Ugly stick? The Jag looks makes me think of a butchered Guitar from Woolworths. I just cant get on with them.
your ugly stick squier. thankyou knave. sorry chaps. they just look like every other budget bass to me. black paint to me says "we dont want you to see whats underneath". stradivari would LHAO. I can't appreciate any machine made guitars with paint on. or is it that special 'tonepaint' i have never heard about? ok for learners and that. strive to be different is what i say (who cares what i say?). i guess if it came to a fight, me against a million fender clones. i'd end up looking like a squier myself. or summat. i dunno, each to their own. rant out.
 13. of course music is art. goes without saying. artistic expression = art. art isn't just a visual medium! that would be silly! as for the use of equipment such as stereos mp3 players, well, music existed long before apple and itunes. i guess as originally passed down through generations, you could call it folk art in that sense. but art nonetheless. hence a&r (artist and repertoire). i consider myself an artist, however the jury is out on that one!
 14.
Didn't you ever wonder who played the feem chooon to Southpark??
not to mention robot chicken!
 15.
Yes, interested. I found with Tru-Oil that it doesnt build thickness very well (for well, read quickly) I was using it to fill in some splintered areas after a defret (rosewood) You can eventually get a nice satin smooth board though
right on. also, you can't add a finish over oil. other than wax or more oil that is.
 16. seriously, no biggy. it'll be less than a quid to post such a small piece. call it a late christmas present from your uncle jon.
 17. no charge of course. i'm just that kind of guy.
 18.
Haha, yeah i love Ghibli! It's a rosewood fretboard, not especially dark but with a reddish tinge.
i can send you a piece of sonokeling rw which should do the trick.
 19.
I'd look closely at how the nut is cut. If the string(s) are resting at the back of the nut not the fret side, you will be able to intonate at the octave correctly but the frets below will seem sharp, especially in the lower positions.
a totally valid observation.
 20. you're right as far as open and 12th. that should be enough for perfect intonation (although there is no such thing) if you're out in between you've got some serious issues. as someone said, check neck relief. too much relief (up bow) and you're intonation will be sharp. adjust the rod so you have a slight relief and adjust saddles so that from the 12th up is pretty much flat. no way of knowing without seeing the neck.
 21. is the board uniformly black? what colour is it? you can use super glue, by slowly building up layers of glue and dust. or even wood glue (if you dont mind waiting for it to dry before re applying). generally though, super glue fixes most things. if you need a small piece of rosewood or ebony to get some dust from, just pm me your address. you will never hide the holes completely. have you considered re-dotting with black dots?
 22.
This is a bit more like it, a bit more like classic Primus. However, the whole silly storytelling aspect of it is very tired.
bejesus. primus were great at the time. but that was then. hurts my head a bit now, and les' too no doubt. he moved on from primus long ago and has more than earned the right to do exactly what he feels like at the time. i don't think les would appreciate being compared to primus quite honestly, although they do still reform regularly (no doubt for a little extra pocket money).
