Well, we at HArtnoll's in Plymouth certainly try to be friendly and welcoming, greeting EVERYONE who walks in, no matter what. What better way to start? And it's pointless blaming shops for the prices. They have to buy from the distributors, and they set the price. You can't run such a business on razor-thin margins, therefore the prices look bad. But remember, the Internet will NEVER be clever enough to be able to give you personalized advice and a chance to fondle the goods. THAT is what a good guitar shop can do, and it IS worth the extra to those who can't get a bass off the net then sdet it up on their own. If you buy from the net, then take it for a setup, you've lost any possible monetary gain right there.

Been giving it some gig time, and it really is doing the job! But that 24k humbucker doesn't half push the front end of the Markbass hard!

When wanting an ext cab for my CMD121H MArkbass combo, I ordered up the same B&C driver that was in the combo, then fitted it (not without some difficulty...) into the empty shell of a Behringer BX1200 bass combo. It does just fine, and weighs 20lbs tops.

My MIM P is the lightest P I've ever felt, including one or two P Bass Lytes! But I've not personally held a basswood MIJ/CIJ, so cannot say on that score...

Get a good Precision and play it. All the punch anybody will ever need. And a BAII has only an even chance at best of making any difference at all. Depends on the bass, not the bridge, IMHO.

MArshall don't go out looking for bass sales in any big way, becausde it is simply not what they are good at. This was told to me by our rep. It's a second string at best, they are never going to bother with trying to get into it any more than they are, because they'd simply never catch up. VBA is great for old school rock, but little else IMHO, and weighs far too much to be bothered with. MB stuff is lighter, but I played through the biggest MB and 8x10 cab the other night at a MArshall Roadshow, and was not impressed at all. And the Roadshow was ALL about the guitar amps. Bass didn't get a mention, literally, except to acknowledge that they actually made some bass amps. No demos at all.

I'm sure the XLR could be put to this use. You cannot mess with the tweeter, but the VLE filter lets you get that sound anyway, so no issue there. Or get the Jeff Berlin sig combo, which doesn't have one, plus it's a 15", so is likely more the sound you're looking for anyway. It's certainly loud enough! Used my CMD121H for quite a while now. Wouldn't ever go anywhere else for my amps. And of course, they weigh next to nothing. The CMD121H is 40lbs, 6.5 of which is the amp head, and 4 of which is a 400W RMS speaker! Amazing!

New basses have one overwhelming advantage - all the mojo will be YOURS.
