  1. Oooh Mickey, no way that's going anywhere! Numero uno most of the time now! A great bass, and getting better. Fully dressed with the correct metalwork and raw maple finger rest, it's easily the sexiest bass of the stable!. I'd swap it for a black maple neck standard 70s P, but it would have to be a corker...it's that good a bass to me. But, should I need to move it, you're first in line! TBH, I'll probably be buried with it.
  2. Well, I've been using the Yam as my 'learn-to-play-again-after-surgery' bass, and although the amateurishly beaten-in frets are all over the place level-wise, I reckon I like it. Quite a lot! Now, this may be cause for some serious therapy, as I'm never seen clutching anything but a Fender! If I can get the frets level, I'll gig it!
  3. I'm not a snob as such, I simply know what I like, or don't like, as the case may be. I love Fender Precisions. I doubt I'll ever play anything else, as they make me happy! Amps is different, although, having found Markbass, I doubt I'll change from that either. I do not like active instruments, full stop. I use a radio, for two reasons: eliminates cables, which I am particularly talented at stepping on, and, without a cable, no need for active. I used to be a bit iffy about bass speakers smaller than 15", but now use twelves...however, I want a Markbass 2x15! The Yamaha I recently acquired from the local dump is turning out to be a nice bass, which I may yet gig! (and it's basically a Precision!) So you must know what you like, keep an open mind, and never hit on anyone for their choice of gear, because it's THEIR choice.
  4. Welcome, from another oldie!
  5. Personally, I use an SM57 (for 30 years, the choice of mic for the podium of the President of the USA - good enough recommendation!), backed up by a Samson Q7 as a spare.
  6. Ah, I'd forgotten those - they're really good! AND they're Hercs. Problem solved.
  7. Rotosound Rotobass nickels. Change them around every 6 months-ish, per bass, but would likely last the full 12 months, just give them a good wipe off with a decent microfibre cloth after use. 90p from Tescos!
  8. Nah. Small stands I use at home. Gigs get the big iron, and my experience is that anything less won't protect your instrument.
  9. Not on MY bass...way too flimsy. Hercules stands! Big! Heavy! Space-hogging! But Bomb-Proof...
  10. For the record, as someone asked: Binding - appeared early '66 Blocks - appeared later in 66.
  11. Hi Haruki, welcome! A former Essex boy here, doing the same stuff, but in my 50s! And all on 4-bangers. So far...

    Hi!

Welcome! GAS: one word - Markbass.
  13. There are not enough female rock musicians! Too many open mic type things are testosterone fueled!
  14. I've played and set up one for a customer. I WILL be getting one at some point in the future!
  15. Hartnolls (I work there) are G&L dealers, but even then, we don't have an easy time getting hold of them. I'm off work for several weeks due to surgery, but give the guys a call with what you're after. Biggest problem, as always, is rarely having anything available to try out...
  16. Our band plays everything from AC/DC to ZZ Top, via Nellie the Elephant. We have a hugely good time doing it, people love it and keep booking us, and as we're a 3-piece, the money works out reasonably too. We don't rehearse a lot, there are no conflicts - what's not to like? Musical integrity is a much overworked phrase that means very little. As far as I'm concerned, I'm doing what I enjoy most in the world, playing bass, and getting paid for it, and I consider myself very, very lucky, at 55, to have been able to get back in and have, so far, 5 years of fun. I'd love to turn pro. As I work in a guitar shop, my entire income does originate from music, but I'd love to able to say I'd done a tour, even if only for a couple of weeks! So, to me, musical integrity means that music is integrated into my life!

    Hi

Welcome! (pleading surgery as excuse for being late...)
  18. And a 'hello' from someone not in Wales at all, but who's fond of staying at a certain house in the Black Mountains!
  19. Welcome, Alice! Damn, now I want an upright...
