1. Bass only. I did have a basic acoustic for a bit, and I have one again now, and a classical. They reside in their cases 364/365ths of the year, maybe more... As soon as I saw one of my then-new-schoolmates playing bass in the 6th form band, it was a Will Smith-Independence Day moment - "I just got to get me one of these!" 41 years later...
2. Howdy!
3. Welcome! Dig in!

14. Howdy! Yep, the 51RI is where its at, alright. My main bass, although I put some TI Jazz Flats on my Standard P last week, and the 51 hasn't got much of a look in since! It can have go at tonight's gig!
15. Welcome!
16. Howdy!
17. Completely uncovered gig = non-starter. You'd be crazy to even consider doing it in this country. However, I can't really believe that there won't be adequate cover. It would mean the event promoter is a complete novice!
18. No, but let's see it! No picture = no bass!
19. I use the technique now and then, just for fun. And my black P-bass now has TI Jazz Flats on it. Wicked sound!
20.
Down with electrickery on a Precision. Keep it Luddite. Bent bit of tin and all.
Damn right!
21. Nice looking piece of work!
22. Howdy!
23. And welcome to you too! Enjoy this amazing place!
24. No, and the laws of physics say otherwise. The tension increases when the length of string that is under tension is increased, not the 'speaking' length of the string. Hence string-thru-body does have a small increase in tension, and basses with separate tailpieces might also have similar. The one way I know of to make intonation easier without moving the bridge physically is to use contact-core strings, as it's the diameter of what goes over the saddle that makes the difference. For example, on my 51RI, if I were to string it with Rotosound 99s, even its 2-saddle bridge is easy to intonate, because the strings are, as far as the bridge is concerned, just about the sme diameter - the core wires.
