1.
I know it's happened to many others, but last night was the first time in 24 years of gigging that I've recieved the dreaded 7:45pm "Where are you?" phone call. Cue a mad dash to get changed, grab the nearest bass and a Hartke combo that was much too small for the gig and get to Bristol (50 miles) as quickly as possible. I still had mud on the back of my legs from a training run and the car boot was filthy from transporting wood for bonfire night. Oh well, there had to be a first time!
My worst nightmare...hope it turned out OK!
2. Great one last night for The Rock 'n' Roll Outlaws, and my second full gig using a Jazz exclusively. At the Arundell Arms Hotel in Lifton, Devon. Packed! We had all the usual locals, who are a great crowd, plus some dedicated followers from as far afield as Plymouth and Ivybridge - a fair commitment in an area which has zero public transport, and would cost a couple of days' wages to get to by cab. So kudos to the drivers! All went well until the very end - the guitarit's radio pack died, but by then, his voice had gone too, so it was a good time to stop, about 30 minutes over normal. And the venue paid us a little extra too! Result!
3. I've owned a few Jazzes, and many more Precisions, but this is the only time one has really spoken to me, as it were...I don't use the bridge pickup at all, so really I'm probably 'not playing a Jazz Bass' as envisioned by most, but it's working for me, and the other band guys think it sounds fine, so... But there's a sneaky part of me that''s saying, "Why have you deserted your 51RI, you traitor you!" Not that I'm listening any more! PS Could a mod move this to where it belongs, in the Bass Guitars section? Not quite sure what senior moment made me put it in this section! Ta! PPS: The gig? An even bigger belter than we thought! I love gigs like that, where it all goes well, and the roof would have come off even if we'd muffed it!
4.
I don't know. I would have thought that being able to play a busy bassline & sing really well would be classed as a virtuoso skill.
Exactly - even early on! Try playing and singing 'All My Loving' like he did! Hard...
5. Never thought I'd live to do this out of choice, but since I've had this bass, and I've tweaked it to suit, it's become my 'go-to' bass. It's a parts Jazz that I traded for with Lee - Rasta of this parish - and although it has an Allparts 'chunky' profile neck, it's just wonderful. I have a non-chunky Jazz neck on the Precision, and that too is great, but this one is just somehow special! I'll stop maundering now, and go out and play another whole gig with it! (At the Arundell Arms in Lifton, Devon, if you're interested - it'll be a belter!)
6.
Can definitely recommend Bare Knuckles for guitars but never tried on bass. Fwiw my CIT '62 RI P-bass has the usual wimpy Fender bridge but has bags of sustain - probably more to for with the timber used?
Very likely not true - the traditional BBOT is entirely sufficient. Badass II = not worth it. However, if you've a two-saddle string-through, then a Badass III (if you can find one) can be a good upgrade.
7. There will be plenty along to say keep it because it's a tube amp. KT88s! Glorious! But I wouldn't gig one for double what I get now. Just too heavy. My amp weighs 6.5lbs - just right. However... My favoured rig for keeping in the corner at home would be a silverface Fender Bassman 50 with 2x13, preferably with D140Fs inside!
8.
As a gigging non youngster though , I get the other side of the coin. We've even been told that when we were seen earlier setting up gear that the punters thought we were the band's Dads !!
Yup, been there, been told that. In the last few weeks!

Hello

Welcome!
10. Both the Geddy Lee and Marcus Miller IV are now Mexican (014xxxx numbers).
11. I've just got ACS T3s (single driver) and there's no lack of bass that I can hear!
12. In-ear monitors, custom fittted.
13. Just took delivery of a set of ACS T3 IEMs. All I can say is - WOW! 26dB isolation and hi-fi sound, absolutely amazing! This should stop any worsening of my (already pretty bad) tinnitus. Result!
14. Now, that's rather good!
15. '66 tuners:- Ovals Butterbeans Paddles Lollipops.... Any more?
