Lights are a must but don't go overboard with your expense unless you're planning on doing more function gigs. Make sure you do run all lights with a simple trip RCD extension for safety reasons & ensure no young curious fingers can touch the lights near the dance floor - or you'll end up in court!!!! On a less (or more) serious note - don't do this: At a friend of our singers wedding we played. The bride & grooms introduction to the dance floor was announced by our singer - all was ok until he introduced the groom as the brides EX-HUSBAND - NOT THE CURRENT ONE!!!!! - Oh, he could have died that night - so so so not the thing to do!!!!!
  4. Here's my list of the worst "sorry we don't know that one " requests.... Rockin' all over the world (requested by a group of Aussies I seem to recall - a gig somewhere in Bournemouth!) American Pie Almost EVERY wedding gig this one is called for - usually gets sung to us anyway by about 4 or 5 drunk men and usually one half asleep fat lady who are watching us pack up after a long night! Does ya know anyz Oasis mate! Usually we greet this one with a sharp, but firm, DUCK OFF Also, another request - not for a particular song, but a reqest none the less - "Give us a go on dem drums mate" - Gets right up our drummers nose!!!
  5.
five-string.co.uk-I hate you LOL,Sei Original basses are probably one of the few basses other than B.C.Rich that I'd love to own Great bass mate-congrats
Hi Lorne, thanks I hate you too! Have a great weekend Buddy Greg
  6. Just interested to see whether people use music stands at gigs? I don't, but sometimes need to during a dep gig. When you watch a band live, do you think less of the musicians if they are reading from sheet?
  7.
Nice job - although claiming Martin is the best might flame the Shukerites.
FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT, FIGHT!!!
  8.
Martin Peterson is a legend. The worlds best luthier.
Yep, couldn't agree more....nice chap too!!! Great looking Sei 5 there - man after my own tastes!!!! Keep it low Greg
  9. Howdy fellow bassist Welcome on ship Greg
  10. Welcome aboard!!! If you can make your bass sound good unpluged, carry on practicing - when you've saved up for an amp - you'll be blown away!!!! Nice bunch of chaps here - ask away if you have any questions... Greg
  11. Sorry, but this is simply horrible..... No 'musician' who could do a 13 string bass justice, would be seen playing this 'Argos reject' drift wood. Just my opinion... GREG
  12. Welcome on board.....
  13.
Agreed this is superb and lovely without reproach, but as to a value should the owner want to move it on, its subjective at best. unlike a standard PB or jazz which has a value, and can be sold easily, these personal basses are a bit vague in value
Thank you for all you're nice comments. With reference so the selling-on of a custom made bass, I would agree with you that it is harder to find a player who has the same tastes etc. However, I (and I guess most other players) would probably not sell on a 'custom built for them' bass unless they were insane (or needed the cash) !!!! Factory or bulk-built basses are generally built to attract the most punters - in terms of popular finishes, neck width, string spacing, balance etc etc - this is why they will always have a wider audience when time comes to sell-on. However, this is usually why they are cheaper in the first place I would guess - as they are easier to mass produce. For now, im content that I have my monies worth - and the Sei will continue to be one of my main basses for years to come. Keep it low Greg
  14. Made for me 2006~Spring 2007 - commissioned order from the Martin @ Sei in Camden. 5 String through neck headless bass. Bookmatched top and back with a lovely Zebrano wood making up the main body. Macassar Ebony fret-board with twin-rod carbon reinforced neck. Gold plate hardware. 15.
I have a stereo DI box should I need it.. I'm even half tempted to keep this one.. I'm gonna have a play tonight, just to make sure! ;o)
PM'd thanks Greg
  16. I was going to go wireless recently, but then I read an article in the MU magazine ref the 'sell-off' of wireless fequencys by the OFCOM. I'm sure this may affect all wireless systems so I'm keeping the money I had in my wallet until its all sorted...... I can't find the MU magazine at the moment, but I've googled and found this article which says the same, just in direct relation to radio mics used in West End theatres: Auction of airwaves 'will end musicals' By Alexa Baracaia, Evening Standard 04.01.07 Andrew Lloyd-Webber said the technology would spell 'the end of musicals' West End musicals could be silenced forever, Andrew Lloyd Webber warned today - amid plans to sell off the technology used for wireless microphones on-stage. Communications regulator Ofcom has said it will auction off the chunk of airwaves currently reserved for wireless mics to the highest bidder in 2012. But Lord Lloyd-Webber, who first introduced the revolutionary radio technology to the theatre in 1971 in his hit Jesus Christ Superstar, said it would spell "the end of musicals". He claimed producers would not have the money to compete against the likes of the mobile phone networks to buy the spectrum. He said: "We can't go back to the cabled microphones of the Fifties and Sixties: it would be like asking audiences to go back to a version of the musical Stone Age." Lord Lloyd-Webber said a portion of the spectrum, known as Channel 69, currently reserved for theatres, TV production companies and concert venues, should be sold at affordable prices.
  17.
£90 delivered. sorry folks!!
Hi, Whats this like as a DI? What do you use now... Thanks Greg
  18. I use a drop-tuner fitted on my status 5 string. Use this to drop the B to a LOW A - really nice for low drone tones and things. Was fitted by Rob / Status when it was built for me in 2004. Love it....stays in tune great, but nut slot needs to suit string guage or it 'grabs'. Greg
  19.
Nice one. My band is called Toupé - play around the place, original two bass player stuff. Lots of influences etc. www.myspace.com/toupe if you wanted to check it out. I actually live right behind the The Blue Keys hotel (in the bins) I'll drop by on a gig night.
Hi, yeah pop in and introduce yourself....we're usually do a more acoustic type set in the bluekeys as it suits the size of the venue. We're always in there at least once a month playing.... If you gig there too, let me know and I'll pop in too on you!!!! All the best Greg
  20.
I was putting the new gear in the new ABS 4u yest. The amp is well off the bottom and I was wondering what to pack the space with to reduce the strain on the front. Ideal material would be light, cheap, strong, easy to install and fit perfectly. Brainwave..... why not cover the amp and rack surfaces with low tac tape to protect them and squirt some builders expanding foam into the gap. The stuff they fill door/window frames with. Weighs nothing,it's strong when set, exact fit, piss simple to get in the right place and cheap as chips. So long as you avoid getting it near fans or other orifices can anybody think why that's a really sh*t idea before I try it? While I'm on. I can see why rack's tend to be black - but where is it written that the inside should be black too. Why not white so we can see in the back better.
Hello, I have two rack cases which I use with a various combination of amp heads, compression unit & tuner. I've always been of the opinions there should be as much room around a amp head as possible to aid cooling. Therefore i'd be more tempted if you need 'under-amp-support' to use stick on rubber feet (from B &Q - other DIY stores available ..he.he). The foam you mentioned would act as an insulator and therfore keep in the heat - not good. Oh, and its blo*dy messy too - think about if you ever needed to sell the amp etc, it would be very stained. As far as the insided is concerned, i've fitted a little battery powered LED (camping) light into the roof of my larger rack case. This serves as a great light source to prevent 'mole-eyed-squinting' on stage. Do a search on the 'bay for one. Hope i've helped, Greg
  21.
I use Status DB end on my headless Sei 6'er. I don't think you can really beat them, and the price is excellent. It's a pity that Elixir don't make a set.
Yes, & it's a pity DR don't do them (to my knowledge) either..... Surely the bass string makers know there is a market here? Or would it not make them enough £££?
