1. Will have a think, I've used some graphite (pencil) around the small ball bearings and this seems to have helped. I don't really like the though of using sprays etc, as they might tarnish my leather strap - (i suppose i could always spray after removing from the strap first ) I'll see how long the pencil / graphite lasts Thanks folks
  2.
Looks rather nice that does.
Thanks my friend
  3. Hi all, I have used (non-recessed) Jim Dunlop strap locks on my Sei bass for a number of years. Recently I've noticed an annoying squeek coming from them! Has anyone else had this problem? They still seem secure, but I'm not sure what to do to stop the squeek. Any comments / advice gratefully recieved before I go and get a new set!
  4. I've done it!! Added a 112 to the 212 current rig - sounds (and looks) great! Will use the 112 for smaller gigs with its built-in monitor stand. Thanks for all your advice - picture attached of rig
  5.
Each cab will get approx 312 watts so the twelves in the 212 will each get approx 160 watts, whereas the single will be getting the full 312 - assuming you run the amp at full pelt which I`d very much doubt. Keep a close ear on it and if the 112 struggles back off on some lows.

Here's a handy little tool for working out this sort of thing: http://ampservice.de...calc.php?lang=e

I do this as well. I have a 2 ohm amp and run a 4 ohm 212 and an 8 ohm 112. Everything works well and as designed.

I do this as well.

Normally Lozz would be right, if the cabs were matching resistance, but because the 2x12 is 4 ohms and the 1x12 is only 8, it'll be evenly spread, all getting somewhere around 150/160w. You should be fine with them, just use your ears and check for any signs of one being pushed too hard, as has already been mentioned. Liam
Thanks for all your replies - very much appreciated, you're all on my Christmas card list now ;-)
  6.
The Ωs would be 2.6, so the amp should be fine & there should be a fairly even spread over all 3 drivers. So yeah, should be fine. Ears are good for saying otherwise though.
Thanks for this, this it what I was hoping for. I was worried that potentially I'd could have been pushing too much of the 600 watts through the 300 watt cabinet.
  7. Hi All, I Currently have a Genz Benz Rig - a GBE 600 head paired to a 212 Neox Cabinet. The head is rated at: 8 ohms - 275 watts 4 ohms - 425 watts 2 ohms - 625 watts The 212 cabinet is 4 ohms (upto 600 watts). MY QUESTION: If I add a 112 Neox cabinet (8 ohm 300watt) to the rig, will the head cope? Also, if I cranked the head up full, would the 212 stop the 112 from being overloaded Any advice gratefully recieved, Greg
  8. Mike brought some strings from me that I did not need. Nice chap and credit to BC Greg

  11. Hi and welcome to the deep end!
  12.
I had a guitar tech friend fit a small toggle switch into my P Lyte about 20 years ago, which bypasses the active circuitry. Obviously this affects the sound, but it acts as a comforting failsafe to be able to switch to passive mode in case of battery failure
I'm pretty handy with a soldering iron, as long as I know what to solder Would he / she happen to have the diagram of where to solder such a handy switch?
  13. Thanks iKay - like the thread - I also like the idea (suggested within said thread) of gluing the magnets to the cover, then using embedded screws in the body (thus height adjustable) for the magents to attract themselves to!
  14. Cool, thanks. I'll have a think - I don't really want to change the tone drastically. Maybe magnets are the way foward :-)
  15.
When I had the EMG active circuit in my P lyte, I had a wiring harness that would switch between 9V and 18V. The thinking was that with 18V there was more headroom and with 9V it lasted twice as long. It was snug but it all fit. No soldering required, plugs straight onto your existing harness where the battery would go. That's not what you asked but if you can't put a box in there and don't want to have it routed, it may be your next best option. http://www.amazon.co...duct/B00ATYRB5O
Thanks for this, another great bit of bass chatting ! Did you just leave the switch inside the cavity of drill through and mount it on the front? What was the effect (volume / tone) when you run on 18v mode?
  16.
Another option would be to mod the control cover to attach with small disc magnets like this: http://www.ebay.co.u...-/130970602265?
I like this idea!! I wonder if the magnets interfere with the electrics in anyway though?
  17. Brought my Warwick bass amp from me, and was a pleasure to deal with Thanks! Greg
  18. Hi Peeps, Thanks for the info. It is only 4 screws but the screw holes get looser each time I use them - needing some 'matchstick' repairs - plus, as I don't use the bass that often, I'd also like to be able to remove the battery easily during the times I'm not using the bass. I'll have a look at the Gotoh flip battery holder - also I will see if anyone has some suitable plastic for sale to make a new cover - it is a good idea to keep the original; thanks for that suggestion too.
  19. Most cars which can have the front seat laid flat - bass (on its side - bridge facing the gear stick), scroll pointing towards the parcel shelf. Seat belt around the bass = job done. Passenger can sit behind you. Boot free for: amp / stool / food / drink I learnt this from my first car - well my dad's anyway - a saloon Triumph Aclaim (auto, beige seats, sick green outside). Still practice said position in all subsequent cars! I like having my bass laying next to me - we have a little chat on the way to gigs!
  20. Sometimes it's nice to get another set of eyes on a problem or small issue though, particularly if you want to test various settings and options out. Recently, I took my Sei back to Martin at The Gallery for a set-up: Yes, I can do this myself, but I wanted to discuss some options for different strings, and potential pick-up and wiring changes etc. The £35 he charged, combined with the hour or so I chatted with him about the bass - and playing through different amps, along with the work he did, and subsequent discussion afterwards (and the cup of coffee) was more than worth it in my opinion. PLUS, it was a good excuse to have a day in London and have a look around The Gallery too. As a tutor, I have played several of my student's basses, which were apparantly set-up by the local music store upon purchasing. It is these set-ups that are usually, in my opinion, not brilliant. With this in mind, I teach all my pupils how to change strings, make small adjustments to the neck, correct the intonation and about other mantainance. Greg

    Hello

Hi! Welcome back to the deep end Greg
  22. Hi, Has anyone routed a hole / cavity specifically to allow a flip-up battery holder (for quicker changes) in a P bass lyte? Or is there a better way to replace the battery other than undoing the back panel? - Would there be a method of recharging a re-chargeable battery, with some sort of adaptor??? OR: Is there a way of fitting two batteries with a selector switch - so if one battery goes dead mid-song / gig, a switch can select the second battery? - A bit like the reserve fuel tank fitted in old Jaguars? Greg
