Just sorting out some new strings for my basses and thought i'd give DR Fatbeams a try.

Turns out its cheaper to buy a 4 string set & a separate B string than it is to but the 5 string set :)

Brilliant strings IMO.
I still don't understand why bass strings are so expensive though, I can't imagine the extra metal and time used to create them equates to the massive price differences from normal guitar strings.
I assume economies of scale come into play as well. Everyone and his blind aunt plays guitar; relatively few people play bass. I imagine that's a big part of why flats are more expensive than rounds too.

It's also because bass players change strings far less frequently (I aim for never!) compared to some lead players that change for every gig

Or better still, try ordering from Stringstar.

I have some Super Steps coming as I like the B to be tapered over the bridge.
I would try DR Long Necks for this reason but haven't found any in the UK yet.
Hi Beams and a 128...hmmm, not so sure and I have plenty on those to clean up if I want to do that again

DAddario's do a nice set with a tapered 125, IME

I do think that changing around between different brands might mean you need to move the neck and play around with an EQ setting a touch.

I might have a 5 string set of Long Necks if you are interested in trying them.

I would be interested, thanks.

Pref 40,60,80,100 and 120/125. UNLESS they are low tension like Hi Beams, when I might try the 45 gauge.

I will string them on a standard scale 4 over 1 peg config.

Are they tapered on every string? it doesn't matter that much as the B is the key, so either way..
