Mate, I don't think anyone's doubting it's an MIA Artist Series Jaco Pastorius model, retailing new at around £1500, or have I missed something?

Having worked in the music retail business for a long time delaing with Fender and fender Custom shop I can confirm that the bass is infact an Artist series American Fender Jaco bass.

there are the tribute custom shop versions with the heavy relic treatment http://www.fender.com/customshop/instrumen...rtno=0196108800

I think that the Artist series gets called a tribute bass quite a lot though as I have heard this used many times before.

Im sure that your bass is great however and you should be able to get between £550 - £700 for it.
Mmm, that was quick! OK, so if it's the MIA Tribute you're looking at a pretty beaten up version of it, so it would probably sell for about £700-750 if the PUPs etc are original (the 'relicing' isn't)

Good luck

PS you might want to edit the title
I checked out the the serial on the various sites and this starts with a 'T' which makes it a Tribute bass.

Write to Bill Mendello, under double cover. That'll get you a response.

T serial or not it's not a tribute.
The tribute is a CS model and has side position dots between the fretlines.
The artist model has side position dots on the fretlines.

Also, what happened with the truss rod access rout? It looks like a drunk blind man did it with a Swiss Army knife.
Probably the best thing to do at this point is to scan / take a photo of the CS certificate and post it up here.
its not a CS bass - its a tribute bass!
I'll send you a scan if your interested in buying.
Otherwise I think I'm being accused of something here...

I have another one sitting in front of me right now. It does have a T serial number..all of the american artist models have the T serial. They retail at about £1450. As I said before people call it the tribute or artist model. either way its the same bass (there is no inbetween odel)and not to be confused with the CS model.

Good luck with your sale mate.
so what's that on the Fender site? chop liver?? :)
With respect, a little knowledge can be a dangerous thing.

This bass here:

Which is what wot you have, is part of the Artist series, also known to Fender as the Artist Tribute. And they all have Txxxxxx serial numbers on the neckplate, along with Jaco's signature.

Here's some chop liver for you if you're still hungry:

Which is from this bass here. Which, again, is what wot you have.

not arguing with that, call it what you will, i just got my info from the Fender site - you'd think the manufacturer would be trust worthy.
but if you read my initial description there's no conflict here except for what we're calling it.
