Sample Spotting

Recommended Posts

Sorry folks, I'm on a roll again. And apologies if this has been done before.

A DJ friend was recently impressed when I told him the slap bass lick in Basement Jaxx's 'Red Alert' was taken from an old funk track by Locksmith called 'Far Beyond'.

Apart from the obvious songs, does anyone know of any other sampled bass bits? I'm sure there are thousands.

And would you believe(?) Massive Attack denied the sample, until virtually on the steps of the High Court...cheeky f***ers!

The Massive Attack track 'Safe from Harm' sampled the bassline from Billy Cobhams 'Stratus'.
Warren G's 'Regulate' used samples from Michael McDonalds 'I Keep Forgetting' and Bob James
'Sign of the Times'.
The SWV track 'Rain' is a based around a sample of Jaco's 'Portrait of Tracy'.
