Fretless Stingray

Not sure which forum to post on so here I am.

I called in Electro Music in Doncaster while my scooter was being serviced and played a lovely black 4 string fretless stingray. Good condition Ernie model - 2 band eq. Sounded fab - 'sings' well unplugged. It's £875 on the ticket , times are tough (nebbing on conversations) so I suspect there's plenty of give on that price. No connection to me whatsoever - just thought I'd let you know. Sort of thing folk often seem to be looking for. If I wasn't sorted with the fretless jap Jazz I'd have strapped it to my top box and come home with it!

I have a 3 band eq model, my bass of choice for noodling at the moment it's really lovely to play. Out of interest where are the typical dead spots, I have a few rays and never really noticed (which is not unusual for me), but I'll nip home and scrutinise them this evening!

Somewhere between frets 6 and 9 on the G (on pretty much every Stingray I've ever played), somewhere around fret 4 on the E if you're really unlucky.

Often they're not really noticable until you plug in an effect that relies on sustain to do its job (octavers, harmonisers, envelope following effects too to some extent) and then suddenly they're the most annoying things in the universe.

I'll have a look man, granted I haven't used many effects for a few years (though I just bought some), but I've had my 4 string fretted for over 20 years and it's been plugged into every possible combination noise making device imaginable and I've never noticed it, I might be deaf but maybe I'm just fortunate to have a got a good one (or three hopefully)!

Noticed a nasty one on a Sterling I once tried (5th on the G) but nothing significant on my current Ray or the one that it replaced. If you need (near) perfection then it has to be graphite!

Anyway, back to the topic, I tried that Ray in Electro - not the best one I tried IMHO but with a bit of tweaking and if it could be brought dopwn to £700-750, then......
