It does say Alembic copy in the description, but surely this should be pulled for spamming? After all, an old listing of mine for a G&L L2000 by Leo Fender (exactly what it said on the headstock) was pulled for spamming, and it was an instrument actually built by the guy it name-checked!
I'm not convinced that Alembic would be flattered by the comparison ...
If my experience of Kasugas is anything to go on this will be an excellent bass, assuming it's been looked after - easily as good as anything comparable from the likes of Fujigen or Matsumoku.

Alembic copies though - this is what you want!

Built by Kawai & sold as Kawai & Fernandes, & probably a good few others.

Not JapCrap (we really need an Italian Stallion thread running) but I had to put this one up:

http://cgi.ebay.it/MAGNIFICO-BASSO-EKO-MDE...=item3363c7ab56

I just love the idea of calling a bass "Buxom".

Is it good enough to justify the seller listing it four times over?

Very nice Jedson short-scale SG at £99 BiN.

I'm all bassed out at the moment, or I'd have had this like a shot.

I do like these - I have the guitar version of this & they're an interesting & quirky take on the SG/EB, pretty well-made too. I think they're quite early, '70-'72-ish, certainly pre-dating the more accurate JapCrap copies. They appear with a few different names & are most common unbranded, but for the anoraks, this one's a Jedson 4454 Scimitar.

Bit of a bargain, too - the Jedson name makes it a bit more desirable than this one:

Although this one had a BIN of £75 - until some tit bid on it! :)

Ridiculous, ludicrous overprice - what does he think it is - a JV Squier? :)

Anyway, apart from the finish (and the body material - this one ain't solid wood, whatever it's made from) it's the same as my CSL Jazz was before I modded it. I absolutely love the neck on mine, but wouldn't pay £445 for it! Worth mentioning that these are late 70s/early 80s, were also sold branded as Cimar and might not have been Fujigen products.

I paid £60 for mine and another BCer recently PM'd me about one the same as mine (solid mahogany body) he picked up for under £100. I would think £150 - £175 would be a tiny bit more realistic for this example!

So, a bit less that what he paid for it?

Excellent detective work! :) I think he's going to find this attempt at profiteering just a little bit less rewarding than he expected.

I've swapped a couple of messages with him about this before I found out his "true identity". Might have a little innocent fun if he responds to my last one - although I doubt if he will...

You took him up on his offer to provide references then? Oh, and as for the investigative work, I cannot lie, John (BB2000) is BC's very own Gil Grissom.

All I did was point out that as an owner of one of these I'd done a bit of research & found out they were identical to Cimar-branded basses from 1980 - & linked him to a catalogue scan to prove it, so it wasn't the early 70s Ibanez he was trying to claim. I also pointed out there were a lot of things about them that suggest that while they were sourced via Hoshino, they quite likely didn't come from Fujigen. Not what he wanted to hear! :)

*Edit* Just checked my Fleabay messages & he did get back to me - he's slightly amended the listing & knocked a massive £20 off the BIN - it would seem a bit harsh to "out" him right now. I wonder if his "research" has led him here?

A bit like the Shiro = Aria = Matsumoku logic that some people apply. As for our eBay friend, he'd have simply assumed that you were attempting to soften him up, throwing a few curve balls, to get him to part with this long-cherished prized possession he's owned for the last week, or two.

Getting a bit Rail-ed out on eBay at the moment:

Both are outrageously over-priced.
