I don't know anything about it. Though it looked rather tasty when I saw it on there though. Congrats, it still looks rather tasty above. Gear Porn it when it arrives if you'll be so kind.

Yeap! :) I was having a major GAS attack over it, drool pouring out both sides of the mouth..........The Mrs told me to load up ebay and have a look in our watch list.......She'd bid on it, and won it!!!!

It's one of the 76 Bicentennials that was actually built in '77, going by the serial number. the bicentennial 'bird is my all time favourite bass!! Don't know that I would be brave enough to gig it though.....

I was half tempted by it as well. I wouldn't gig it though and I really like gigging my current Thunderbird. Gear Porn that as well please. Maybe we need a separate 'Gibson' gear porn page (if there isn't one already).

You are a lucky man indeed my friend.
Doubt mine would help look for a bass in the house, let alone find and bid on one on ebay!
The Bi-cent is a MONSTER of a bass!-the drooling is totally justified there.
Just make sure you drink plenty of milk before you get it- it will rattle the sh*t out of your bones!

Also, like Farmer, you have to put it in Gear Porn on arrival :)

Yeah, twas the expensive one :)

My 2009 'bird, despite all it's faults, does a pretty good job of shaking the house apart.

Good idea to start a Gibson porn thread. I'll have to get some decent pictures of my '67 EB2C too

I'm no expert, but as far as I know, the Bicentennial Thunderbird was the relaunch of the Thunderbird, after they were discontinued in '69, and built to the same through neck specification as the original bird. The Bicentennial ran from '76, through to '79, and although they all had the red, white, and blue bird on the scratch plate, only the '76 had "76" as part of the bird logo. Although the majority of '76 Bicentennial's appear to have been built in '77! The first two numbers of the serial number give the game away; 00 for '76, 06 for '77.

I think they were all Thunderbird IV's, meaning two pickups. Think they all had chrome hardwear. Current 'birds all have black hardwear, and black plastic pickup covers. Some of the original '60's Thunderbirds were Thunderbird II, denoting single pickup.

Like I said, I'm no expert

In fairness, my 09 'bird plays like a dream, sounds huge, and is well built, but the attention to detail is shocking.........I have a list of 20 faults! They're all fairly minor, and I could forgive the odd thing here and there, but you really don't have to look too hard to find them  I just hope that mine was a one off "Friday afternoon" job :) My overall "Beef" is that it is not worth anywhere near as much as I paid for it, and I would actually feel quite guilty if I tried to pass it on through Ebay, etc.

Cheers, not sure I enough of an expert to spot anything, bit dissapointed with the case tbh, but the bass itself plays well, so perhaps I won't look too closely and remain ignorantly happy.

There's a link to my issues with "The Thunderturd" as I now call it earlier in this thread.
Hopefully your '76 will reek of quality.

I recently had a noodle on an Epiphone Thunderbird Pro, and was very impressed. I didn't plug into an amp though. The set up on it was pretty good, and looked well built too. I like the fact that they are a proper through neck, and not bolt like the cheapy Epi's, or set neck like the Tokai :)

I've just started a "Gibson Porn" thread in Gear Porn, so post 'em up :) I've put some piccy's up of my EB2
Aha found it thanks....!

The smell thing is strange, mine has a very distinctive smell aswell even though it's 18 months old...? Paint and finish seem ok but I will have a look with me specs on.......!

Gibson porn to follow tomorrow when I get some time to take my own pics.
