jamesbass116 Posted January 12, 2010 Share Posted January 12, 2010 hey, i am considering trading in my current 5er (fender 24V jazz) as the neck is wayy to wide for my liking, 1.8/1.9mm i think my school's bass teacher let me try his bass, a G&L US L-2500, he said it had 1.6 spacing and i could feel it cos i was flying all over that neck haha. But i do think that bass is a bit out of my price range. OutToPlayJazz Posted January 12, 2010 Share Posted January 12, 2010 Warwick and Spector 5-strings usually have narrower spacing, as do Ibanez and earlier Status S2's/Empathys. geoffbyrne Posted January 12, 2010 Share Posted January 12, 2010 I have 3 5ers all with fairly narrow spacing as I have a pretty small hand. The narrowest is my Hohner B Bass V with modded electronics. I find this very easy to play. Peavey Cirrus V BXP has a very slightly wider neck but I still find it very nice to play and is currently my #1 bass. OLP Stingray 5 - very similar spacing to the B Bass, but a much deeper, clubbier neck. I don't find it quite as nice to play as I have trouble reaching round it. Obviously this will mean adding new screw holes for the new bridge, possibly swapping the pup for a blade type (I wouldn't imagine you'd need to route and fit wider pup, but the pole pieces of what was there might not be in the correct place) and also drilling a hole in the headstock for the extra tuner. Huw Foster Posted January 12, 2010 Share Posted January 12, 2010 My Schecter is fairly narrow by my judgement. They're pretty hard to come by in the UK though - I got lucky on eBay with mine. New retail price is around £400. Mine was essentially unused and I got it for just shy of £300. It's really, really good value for the money. However, I have a couple of criticisms - the neck is obscenely long, and because of the very lightweight body (it's the lightest bass I've played by a mile) there's a fair bit of dip at the headstock. BassBunny Posted January 12, 2010 Share Posted January 12, 2010 +1 For the G&L L2500 Tribute. Have played both US and Tributes and IMHO there is little difference. The pick-ups are US Fullertons on both anyway. Should be able to pick one up for between £300-400 s/h and it's a bargain at that. Mines a keeper as it can do P-Bass, Jazz and Stingray on Acid sounds.
