Im just in process of spraying one myself but its a strip down to the raw wood job.
In all of these things preparation is the key

Indeed. Most US companies won't ship flammables outside the US. Reranch products are sold in this country by Manchester Guitartech:

Just puts his own sticky label on the can. I've had stuff off him - no probs.

Thanks for all the info guys. Looking to buy a cheap guitar to start with...
(Why waste a bass) but will let you know how I get on.

On the question of paint and such, will that website from Manchester mail to Ireland?

Yes you can use car paint which is usually acrylic
Cellulose is being phased out and depeinding on which witch doctor you listen to will make absolutely no difference or transform your instrument.

I dont think fender use cellulose anymore as a norm although they may do in the customshop.
