Heavy, inefficient peavey gear (425W rms) is transforming in to two lightweight 450watt (rms each!) BFM jack cabs (white/chrome to make bootsy proud...) and a sweet amp setup. i'm currently using a peavey alpha valve preamp with a crown xls 402 power amp like this [url="http://www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/xls.htm"]http://www.crownaudio.com/amp_htm/xls.htm[/url] When placed in a rack with a compressor, this weighs more than both new cabs combined and almost as much as a mesa 400. I'm quite keen on a DHA valve preamp and would like to get a lighter, but still powerful, power amp. does anyone have any experiences with 1U power amps? Whats good/bad/ugly? They come up used now and again, I'd certainly look out for those; though be aware that they are as deep as a deep thing as regards to fitting into a rack.
