1. Recently purchased a Markbass amp from 4 candles. I haven't got a cab to test the amp yet, but it hasn't got a scratch on it. 4 candles was Pleasure to communicate with, let me pay using my preferred method, packaged the amp very well, and it was delivered in good time. Apparently he's been on the forum for years buying and selling a few bits so he deserves some good feedback! Highly recommended seller. Cheers, Rich
2. Hi, Is the cab the 121h or 121p? Any pics? Cheers, R

4. Interested in the markbass gear. What year and model are the cab and amp? Made in Italy or elsewhere? Thanks, Rich
5. Has anyone had any joy with these cabs? Interested to hear from any current or past owners. Cheers, Rich
6. Thanks for the quick response. I totally agree the looks are more 80's hifi than 2019 bass gear 4 year warranty once registered. The comments I've read about the compressor leave me undecided. Clearly by turning the compressor up you can get a clipping sound, but then this seems to be explained and mooted in the comments here, with the overall opinion of the amp seeming very positive: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CD6M09XhbqM Has anyone lived with the LWA1000 for a while? Or done an A/B with the Warwick and any newer amps of similar spec? cheers, Rich
7. Hi All, Anyone have long-term experience and comparisons with the Warwick? I'm in a similar situation to the OP, looking for a new amp of similar spec. I've seen the Warwick LWA1000 on Thomann and it seems like incredible value. The two channels looks somewhat superfluous compared to say the Quilter BB800, but then since it comes with a foot-pedal to switch channels, it basically saves ever needing an eq pedal on the pedalboard as you have two sounds ready to go, great for a varied setlist. I can't seem to find many long-term user-reviews online so any LWA1000 users please chime in! At less than £400, why shouldn't I buy the Warwick? Cheers, Rich
8. 15mm poplar supplier in Cornwall anyone? First challenge is 15mm poplar ply. I'm struggling to find a supplier based in Cornwall (I'm in Falmouth). Are there any in Cornwall or Devon stocking 15mm poplar sheets? If not, are there places further afield that could cut and deliver? I'd rather not drive a 6 hour round trip to Bristol if it can be avoided. Cheers, R
9. Hi All, This thread is awesome! Well done for all the efforts put in so far. What an excellent resource. I built 2 BFM Jack 12's about 9 years ago but the thread/pics have all gone since BC website was updated. I had rehearsals recently after a short (ahem) period of musical inactivity and remembered that I never got on 100% with my cabs or amp (Ashdown Little Giant 1000, with half the power section dead, and the outputs bridged to keep it going...). The Jacks are very very loud, but they're too much for the odd pub gig in Cornwall and take up too much room in my house. They also need EQ to calm some mids and I'd need to add an HF section to get clarity at band volume. I've been looking at the fEARful/fEARless cabs but was really chuffed to then spot that BC has this in-house cab design thread that makes use of newer drivers. Lots of sensible-looking aspects to this design. The compact size, frequency response/range, and potential SPL seem ideal for my needs. I'm very much hoping to build one (or two?) as soon as possible. Thanks, and fingers crossed for some decent new cabs! Rich

11. Cheers for the replies! The BF-3 actually seems very close to what I'm after. Never considered a flanger before but that seems to retain depth (low-pass on the bass input right?) and still sounds phaseresque on the top end. Anyone able to link a suitable song with slow phasing sound on a a linear driving bassline? No worries if not. Cheers R
12. Hi all, I'm trying to get a slow phaser sound with an edge to it. The bassline is linear like Placebo's Bitter End and I want that edgy thick sound but I want a slow phasing effect on it abd preferably to retain low end (LPF?). I remember hearing an example but can't find it online. Does anyone get the sound I'm after? Links to an example? Is there a phaser that will let me add grit/grind/edge? Does one exist with a low pass option? My standard tone is clean funky tubey fat so using the amp for grit is less than ideal. Cheers, Rich
13. Cheers Danny, i've gone ahead and ordered a Veyron BV1001T for £352 delivered with a three year warranty and 60 days free returns if it's not my cup of tea, back it goes! Fingers crossed for a good amp! Rich
14. Hi All, You may have seen my wanted ad and my LG1000 repair thread. I've had several offers of used amps but in my searching I came across the Bugera Veyron BV1001T. It looks like the output wattage is open for debate, but the consensus seems to be that it sounds good, is decently loud in spite of the clearly exaggerated marketing, and at a little over £300 with a 3 year warranty, I can't see too many negatives. I've seen my fair share of dead Behringer gear, but also had a few gems (love my BDI21), and the Bugera stuff seems a little higher quality (thanks to copying some pretty good quality gear!). I'd love to hear feedback from people who have used the Veyron for a while now. So today I need to order an amp and currently it is looking like this one, unless anyone out there can suggest..... A: A new amp that has comparable spec/features/warranty for the money. Anyone seen a particularly amazing current offer? B: Check out my wanted ad and suggest a used amp at a similar price that beats the Veyron sufficiently to negate the probable lack of warranty, age, and condition of a used amp. Many thanks, Rich
15. Good point. I have no idea what class d stuff does when it breaks. No smoke or smell and not particularly hot. The fan still kicks in on startup so it appears the cooling is working, and wasn't running when the amp failed, leading me to believe that the amp didn't overheat. I need a new soldering iron anyway (fellow microsynth users will appreciate) so it's something I'll look into. Frankly the amp has been brilliant for clean power since I got it so a repair would leave me well chuffed and not out of pocket. I'm wondering if I could connect the non-functioning speaker-out in the LG to the other working speaker-out in a way to put both cabs in parallel to = 4 ohm? Cheers, Rich

17. Hmmm ok that's interesting. I'd not considered daisy-chaining cabs. My cabs are 8 ohm only have one 1/4 inch input each. Can I make up a cable to run both from one speaker output? Had a few offers of amps from my wanted ad but cash and time are both issues. Little worried about trusting half an amp for the gig now! Cheers
18. Hi All, My Ashdown little giant 1000 has worked flawlessly since I got it 7 or 8 years ago. Last night It made some funny sounds like a lead being disconnected badly then stopped producing sound although the bass was still showing up on the preamp visual meter. I changed the speaker cable to the other speaker output and it works. The trouble is I have a gig on saturday and will need to use 2 cabs. Does anyone have experience repairing these? Is is worthwhile? I'm handy with a soldering iron but I don't want to waste time if this is doomed. Meanwhile I'll be searching for someone to send me a new (used) amp to use at the gig. Any help much appreciated. Cheers! Rich
19. Hi All, Thanks for the replies. Seems that powering the two microsynths is going to be fairly expensive. Gigrig looks very good quality and seems to do what I want. Can anyone recommend a good value supplier inside the EU? Rich
20. Hi All, After years of swapping and changing I've finally found the setup of pedals I use most and the order I like them. Can you suggest a power supply that can power them all and hopefully minimise any hum? Starting from the bass going to the amp: Bass EHX Bass Microsynth (old version) 24v EHX Bass Microsynth (old version) 24v Malekko Barker Assmaster Fuzz 9v Morley Bass Dual Wah 9v Roland RE 201 Space Echo 9v Behringer BDI21 9v Amp I occasionally put another pedal or two in there for particular things but these will almost always be 9v. What is available that won't kill the bank? Looking forward to mounting these tidily on a board without a million power adapters humming away and warming the entire house up. Cheers! Rich
21. Ha Cheers guys, Indeed this thread is rather fruitful to say the least! 6v6, what cab did you build with what outer dimensions? The 12mm I used on the jacks seems very stiff indeed, but I can see benefits to thicker ply if the panels are bigger. I have a background making surfboards and latest tech on those is to have very low density foam cores, a higher density foam outer, then glass/epoxy skin with carbon where you really want stiffness. This is what's driving my idea of having ply with tough/stiff outer layers and low density inner layers. If thicker ply (say 15mm) with a very light core and tough hardwood outer exists, I'd be interested to see how its weight compares to say 12mm birch. I also work as a biologist and we recently had 100 nestboxes built of this stuff: http://www.ecosheet.com/ Data sheet: http://www.ecosheet.com/files/8513/6681/5676/Ecosheet_Specification_Sheet_v5.pdf Good stiffness thanks to the moulding process which produces solid outer walls and a more open interior structure. Weight is similar to ply of same thickness. Cheers, Rich
22. Hi Guys, Thanks again for the input. Now I'm intrigued to hear what a 3012ho sounds like in regular reflex box. I'd be keen for nearer 70L to get a bit of bass extension for slightly reduced power handling/efficiency. The APT80 sounds like the tweeter of choice in that case. As for build material, The Jack's, made from 12mm Birch ply and this feels extremely stiff, but isn't light weight. I'm on the lookout for some ply with light inner laminates and tough outer laminates. Can anyone suggest a source in the south west? I'd love to bring a Jack up to Somerset and spend a day trying speakers in different cabs. Unfortunately my car is dying and I'm loathed to venture far from Falmouth until I have replaced it. If I can get some ply, I'll happily put together a suitable cab and make some comparisons. Cheers, Rich
23. Hi Phil and Lawrence, Thanks for getting back to me with some useful replies! All this has me wondering if am am maybe better selling the Jacks as-is and investing in a couple of 3012LF's for 2 deepish small cabs or one 3015LF and a small high mid driver for one larger full range cab (like a Fearless 15/6, but again taller). I am somewhat concerned that the throw on a 15 may mean that I wouldn't get a clear sound in your typical cornish pub... I agree with your ideas for the 3012HO's with that tweeter. The other tweeter I've heard good things about is: http://www.bluearan.co.uk/index.php?id=MON100190 How does that compare to the APT80? I don't think I need absolutely tonnes of SPL due to small venue size, but I do want depth as I play a mix of reggae and funk mostly. Hopefully land on the best option soonish, thanks for your help thus far. Fascinating stuff. Rich
24. Hi Phil and Lawrence, I've been following both those threads in the background actually, very interesting stuff. Lawrence, I like your suggestion of some kind of high pass filter. ideally this would just flatten the mid hump to a more reasonable level rather than shelve suddenly. I don't know how to go about designing that so any suggestions would be welcome. Would this HPF effectively be a power sump for mid frequencies? Would making the box bigger reduce mid-output similarly (albeit with a reduction in overall power-handling) ? My current Jack 12s have an external volume (the overall cubic exterior shape) of 116 litres each. I haven't found them too problematic to move around, but as a lot of that volume is taken up by the throat/horn I agree with you that 100L may be pushing it volume-wise in a simpler reflex design. My current design ideas are: -Build the cab narrow (say 40cm) -Use 9mm dual density Ply (hardwood outer laminates, softwood inner laminates) -Brace carefully (bracing requirements should be reduced using a narrow design as the maximum distance from any edge will be reduced on each panel -Use round ports (this seems to be a lighter weight option relative to a large, braced, wooden, shelf type port. Also it removes the "inside edge" issue that Lawrence mentions above. -The port length for deepest reasonable tuning (before the power-handling drops dramatically) will then determine the front-to-back depth of the box. -Tweeter to be mounted at the very top of the box, centrally. Thinking about a decent piezo. -3012HO Woofer to be mounted the nearest reasonable distance below tweeter as possible to keep all sources up where they can be heard clearly. -Possibly smoothing HPF on the woofer only to reduce mid hump. What do you think? R
25. Hi Lawrence, Thanks for such concise answers! Interesting that Eminence offer such a range of speaker sizes for one driver. I wonder if anyone out there has built the big one for bass. Does seem like a large volume. I'm not sure the 3012HO is a particularly good choice for a single driver plus tweeter reflex cab. I may have to sell my whole rig and look elsewhere. Maybe the 3012LF or a different high power neo driver with a smoother response across a broad frequency range. Cheers, R
