No punk expert here but wasn't it rebelling against certain kinds of establishment "nonsense",like jazz did/does in certain strains.

To me, yes. To those who get it no.

Im sure a lot of the metal I enjoy is just meaningless noise to jazz fans.

Maybe not just to fans of jazz. Guitar Guitar in Camden sometimes blare out metal in the store and erm...I'll leave it there 😂

No we don't agree. I never said Metal is noise. I don't think it's appropriate to blare out any loud music in a guitar store where gear is tried out by potential customers. Metal is not my aesthetic choice but it's still music played by often very talented individuals.
