RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted November 4, 2025 Posted November 4, 2025 FWIW it seems you have / will have all bass covered …and then some ! It’d be interesting to hear your experience of how this pans out 1 Quote

I'm all agog to look into some of these when my old work pension monies pop into my account 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted November 9, 2025 Author Posted November 9, 2025 … and here is the Sub Phatty: … has the expected stickiness these are known for on the end cheeks and mod/pitch wheels, so will have to get that off somehow. But a 2019 year production not played much at all, so happy with it 👍🏻. Great 0 feedback seller on eBay also, so the risk was definitely worth taking! 1 Quote
pantherairsoft Posted November 9, 2025 Posted November 9, 2025 I got to AB a Sub Phatty against my 25 a few months back. Aside the drive section, there wasn’t much to report back on, which is a testament to how well they produced the Subsequent. The Phatty has a look to it that’s really awesome though! 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted November 9, 2025 Author Posted November 9, 2025 … yeah, they are very similar so far. I think the Sub Phatty will probably be the one that goes out more as even though it’s in great condition, it’s not literally brand new. Least the keys are all straight on this one though 😁! 1 Quote
BigRedX Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 Regarding the stickiness, if it's just a coating that is sticky you'll have to remove it, otherwise it will come back no matter what you do. If it's the actual material itself then the only real solution is replacement. Maybe some nice wood for the end cheeks and see if someone is offering 3D-printed replacements for mod and pitch wheels. jimbobothy Posted November 10, 2025 Author Posted November 10, 2025 Cheers. I think it is the plastic/hard rubber itself, at least on the mod wheels. Using alcohol does clean off the residual stickiness for a couple of years I’ve been told. I think I read it was the coating on the end cheeks, but not sure. I’ll see how it goes/last when I get around to doing it. At least for the end cheeks I could make some if need be. Good shout out about 3D printing the mod wheels though, maybe in the style of the ones on the Grandmother and Messenger etc? Quote
BigRedX Posted November 10, 2025 Posted November 10, 2025 While it can be possible to remove the stickiness using IPA, it will come back, and IME much sooner than a couple of years. It's a manufacturing defect with the plastic/rubber used and once the material has started to break down there is nothing that I know that will stop the process and cleaning off the stickiness just exposes new material that has already started to degrade. Ultimately the only permanent solution will be the replace the parts in question with something made out of a more stable material. 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted November 11, 2025 Author Posted November 11, 2025 … I’ve done a bit of digging and it’s the rubberised coating that was used for grip/aesthetics and is a fairly common thing apparently on multiple products, not just Moog end cheeks and mod wheels. Hopefully it’s just the coating that is unstable and not the base plastic. I’ll report back on how it cleans up when I get around to doing it 👍🏻 Quote
jimbobothy Posted December 24, 2025 Author Posted December 24, 2025 … for anyone wanting a decent software synth, and not spend out on hardware just yet, the Moog Mariana is ace 👍🏻👍🏻. It’s currently on sale at the moment from the Moog website. The iOS version is £15!! Bonkers for what you get (but maybe easier getting a signal out of a laptop if wanting to use live??) https://software.moogmusic.com/store/mariana 2 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted Sunday at 14:49 Author Posted Sunday at 14:49 … spent a bit of time taking the stickiness off the Sub Phatty end caps last night before it’s first outing at church this morning. All good and about half the worship set was spent using it, a very phat sound indeed (kind of makes the electric sound a bit weak in comparison though 🤔🫣😁) 2 Quote
Owen Posted Sunday at 17:12 Posted Sunday at 17:12 My Sub Phatty came with aftermarket wooden end cheeks as well as the originals. I am sure it is trying to look like something it is not. 1 Quote

Is that a Red Panda mixer you’re using for both bass and the Moog? I’m using an AB/Y switcher but have big volume drop on bass when using both channels simultaneously. Apparently a common issue. I’m wondering if a mixer would be a better option. Quote
jimbobothy Posted Sunday at 20:25 Author Posted Sunday at 20:25 (edited) Hey there, yup it is indeed a Red Panda mixer (mono 3 into 1). I do also play Fretless when the set warrants it, so having the 3rd input comes in handy. Separate volume for each channel and hi fi quality circuit inside so no volume or sonic issues at all (the mixer is powered so hence no volume drops etc. I have used a Boss LS2 using the channel A+B option (need a dummy plug in the input) and there are separate volume controls for each channel then also. I prefer having the instruments live all the time, as I can switch between bass and key bass mid song (verse chorus etc) when it’s suitable without having to step on anything!
