jimbobothy Posted August 17 Posted August 17 (edited) Hey all, Recently got one of these before the prices shot up! Great sounds can be had, would have preferred a higher level of QC but all works so overall okay. Now to see if I can transfer the lines I can play on my basses to this ha ha 😁! RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE Posted August 19 Posted August 19 These are great ! If I didn’t have the Moog grandmother and minitaur, I’d get one also. They look cool also. Have you seen the Bad Gear episode of this ? Quote
jimbobothy Posted August 19 Author Posted August 19 (edited) Yeah, I wanted the smaller size as when I plan to play it (at church) it’ll be in combo with electric bass, so I didn’t want to lug loads of extra stuff about. Also the price I got it for was pretty good tbh 👍🏻. The Grandmother was on my possible list due to the larger keybed, but I thought presets would come in very useful. Lastly reading the Moog forums, there seemed to be a few problems that could occur, so buying new with an extended warranty (don’t normally get those) seemed to be prudent! ps. I’ve also just pulled the trigger on a Novation BSII, and trying to find a DSI Mopho SE ha ha. I seem to have a Monosynth mania at the moment, no need for any polyphonicness for me 🤣 Edited August 19 by jimbobothy 2 Quote
JottoSW1 Posted August 21 Posted August 21 It's on FB Marketplace reduced to £180 in Brighton. 1 Quote
RhythmJunky Posted August 30 Posted August 30 I recently went to watch a live band in a local pub. They are a pretty well known band in Ireland, never made the big time but are well respected. The bassplayer had one of those on the rather cramped stage next to him. He played a total of 4 notes on it the entire gig. But then again, at one point in the gig, one of the 2 drummers on stage was playing a diggeridoo duel with a guitarist, also on a diggeridoo. It's been a while since I saw anyone play a diggeridoo, now all of a sudden 2 show up at once. 😆 Great gig, but madly chaotic at times. 2 Quote

The didgeridoo duel should be mandatory in Spinal Tap 2 🙀 1 Quote
Owen Posted September 10 Posted September 10 I bought a Sub Phatty on a whim. It is proper lush! 2 Quote

I have one and love it. Admittedly, I've replaced all the patches with Nine Inch Nails-style industrial noise, but that's not the point. Re: your QC comment, do you know if yours is a made in America, or one of the last batch that was made overseas since the InMusic acquisition? I've heard a few people that purchased these brand new in the last 12 months have similar complaints. This was part of the reason that 2nd hand prices rose even before they announced this was being discontinued, because people wanted pay a premium for a unit that was made in the Asheville factory before that stopped being a thing. Once they announced they were being discontinued, the prices jumped again. That said, still worth every penny. If you have a US-made unit with QC issues, I'm really surprised, as they took some real pride in every unit that left the factory, in my experience. I remember when I once had an issue with one of my Moogerfoogers, maybe 12 years ago. I emailed them, and then got a reply from the actual engineer that designed it. He said, "you could send it to the UK repair centre, but if you send it to me, I'll fix it up, and upgrade some parts for you - I can do it on my lunch break next week". I mean, that was service! There is a part of me that is considering selling this to get a 2nd hand US made 37 instead, just because I want more patches to save sounds in. I really love the size and format though. It rocks. 2 Quote

I have the opposite experience. Every US Moog I’ve had has had issues at some point. Took me no less than 3 Minimoogs before I got one without QC issues, and then a year later the power supply board on that one died. Quote

Still really like 37 a lot. Actually kept that over the Pro 3 SE I had which is a great synth. Edited 2 hours ago by Quatschmacher 1 Quote
jimbobothy Posted 4 hours ago Author Posted 4 hours ago (edited) ... yeah it was one of the last made in Janurary 2025 ones, and AFAIK made in the USA. Got a wonky key (high C) but plays lovely. I had a look at one for sale in a localish music shop used, and that was the same manufacturing date (I think the last batch made at the factory), and that had a loose pitch wheel, and had gaps were different to my one. More of a minor point, some of the controls had/have a pretty loose potentionmeter pot feel, function perfectly, just wasn't sure what to expect tbh. Either way the price was reasonble, I also bought a 10 year warranty and got £40 back for the wonky key, so for what it is I'll manage lol! I didn't think any of the Subsequent 25s were made anywhere else apart from the Ashville. The Mini Moog and Subsequent 37s are still made there I believe, but other ones I think are overseas now. I was tempted to either get a Sub Phatty, Sub 37 or Subequent 37 as the 3 octave keybed would be helpfull, but not having any warranty if not bought new (well and the price for a Subsequent 37) are putting me off ha ha! I also have a Novation Bass Station II and like that one a lot also. Edited 4 hours ago by jimbobothy Quote
jimbobothy Posted 3 hours ago Author Posted 3 hours ago (edited) … just checked and it has Made In The USA on the InMusic labelled outer cardboard box it came in. Out of interest I bought a DeckSaver for it and it’s didn’t fit (2 of them didn’t), the wood end cheeks were too deep for it to fit over properly. I’ll just use a sheet for dust and get a flight case to cart it about. Any thoughts on one of the Thor specific cases you can get off Thomann? Edited 3 hours ago by jimbobothy Quote
pantherairsoft Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago (edited) I may have made a mistake then. I was just going off what I’d seen discussed elsewhere. I thought Dec 24 was the last of the US batch and 25 onwards was overseas. It’s specifically models from Jan 25 that I had heard reports of QC issues, and the info above seems to support that. Mine is older (Feb 2021), and is flawless in terms of finish. To be fair, I’ve owned three Moogs over the years and they have hands down been the best made and perfectly finished synths I’ve had the pleasure of using. I also purchased a decksaver for my Subsequent 25 and it’s a perfect fit, so something definitely changed somewhere down the line. Edited 2 hours ago by pantherairsoft Quote

That’s arguably a better gigging format as it flatter but is 32-key and has 256 patch slots. 1 Quote

Yeah, but the classic Moog shape is just too damn cool to do without In all honesty, I don’t need more than 25 keys… and the width is a bigger deal than the height for both home storage and stage space. In all honesty, the Sub25 is my perfect synth other than the number of patches. I think I’d be trading away too many positives to ‘upgrade’. Maybe I’ll just end up with a 37 as well one day Quote
