Owen Posted July 5 Posted July 5 I have a friend looking for one. He is talking of buying. I suggested hiring. Any leads? TIA Quote
Staggering on Posted July 6 Posted July 6 There's one for sale in the EUB's and Double Basses for sale....the website says it is "hard foam", might be what he is looking for, it's definitely not the type of hard case used for shipping a bass but might work for your friend. I wonder if anyone on here has used one. Quote

For less than a week.i bought it on here, and almost immediately put it back up for sale. But it wasn't the fault of the case. While from a protection point of view I think it was great, it added a lot of size and inflexibility. My house is pretty small, with low ceilings. So storing it when the bass was out was a problem, and moving things around to put the bass in or take it out was a bit of a mission. Also, the bass just fits in the car in a gig bag, with the size added by the foam hard case, it was too tight for comfort. In a different living situation, with more space, maybe more than one bass to store, and a van, I'd definitely think about picking another up though. It was pretty good, and definitely provided a significant upgrade in terms of protection. 1 Quote
Burns-bass Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I’d get him to call up some string shop. I’m sure someone like the Martins, Thwaites etc would have one. I know the luthier Martin Penning has one to transport basses when he’s built one. (I’m not suggesting he’ll hire it or let you borrow it, I’m just saying he has one!) But I’d assume all serious bass luthiers that sell internationally will have one. That’s where I’d start. Quote

Although I checked the advertised dimensions I didn't realise just how much bigger than a DB a DB hard case is, and more specifically, how much more challenging it is to move around, for example getting around corners, up stairs, into cars etc Quote

BenTunnicliffe Posted Thursday at 20:20 Posted Thursday at 20:20 Thanks everyone (Owen in particular). I did actually get this sorted in the end and now have a corner of my house eaten up entirely by a fibreglass DB case that a friend's friend had SPARE. You wouldn't believe it but the man had four of the things, had already sold one, I took the second one but he's keeping the other two. Madness! I'm now looking into monthly hire on a storage unit but at least my bass will be safer on the road! Cheers for all the insight, I was following along. 1 Quote
Rabbie Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Just as a curve ball…I’m thinking of selling my removable neck double bass with its own flight case. It’s not dainty, but definitely way more manageable than those humongous fibreglass beautiful monsters Quote
