Kowad Posted 21 hours ago Posted 21 hours ago Hello! Greasing the fretboard on a 1986 MIJ 1962 jazz bass reissue and the edge of the nut flew off. No harsh treatment, gently moving the E string in, off it went! I’m looking to replace it, will get a local luthier on it, are there any considerations here? Fender only sell one JB nut (will this fit any / all JBs?), would this fit, anything beyond “get a nut in there” that should shape any replacement? Cheers! Quote
Reggaebass Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago I did that once on one of my jazzes, I superglued it back and it’s been there for about 7 years, is that a possibility for you 2 Quote
ezbass Posted 20 hours ago Posted 20 hours ago If you’ve located the missing piece, I’d just superglue it back on. I had a Tele, where the string spacing was off (too close to the treble side). I removed it, moved it over, filed back the overhang and built up the other side with superglue. Solid as a rock, hasn’t moved or had any problems since. 3 Quote
BlueMoon Posted 3 hours ago Posted 3 hours ago Nothing particular to advise. The above recommendations are on the money. I use glue very sparingly, in a single spot, on the base of the nut. This should avoid a repeat of the present cause but also allow removal of the nut as necessary at another time. I have had to deal with removing a nut that was glued in with so much glue it was a real pain to remove……..and, it was a bound neck. Nasty. Quote
