The guy says the serial number is: K034424. I don't see a K prefix on the Fender serial number site. Any idea what it's alluding to be?

It's an MIJ from 1990/91 - http://www.fender.com/support/japanese_instruments.php

Basswood body by the looks of things.

You can just about make out the 'Made in Japan' (or possibly crafted in japan) on the body end of the back of the neck. My MIJ '62 resissue is from about 1990 and that is alder, so I'd be surprised if it is basswood with a sunburst finish. Pretty blummin' obvious that the relicing/fcuking-up job was done with tools and it has a much harder finish than thin nitro.

My favourite word for today is 'numpty', so consider it used for the line "The tape isn't necessary however I feel it adds more character to the guitar" if nothing else :)

As mentioned on the parallel thread I've got two rolls of character in my workshop if anyone wants to add to their bass - it comes in two widths - £1.00 per inch for the narrow stuff and £1.50 for the wider version. Also Gaffa tape for those seeking a stronger character - price on application.

^^ I also have a similarproduct for sale. If anyone would like to purchase 2 hammers specially designed for bass guitar bodies and necks, I am selling them at £478 and £2076. The £2076 one was used to model and relic a relic of one of Flea's infamous battered up basses. Serial Number on the hammer is 14M4N0Ob4BUY1Ng7H15. Pictres will be uploaded later

Yeah you could well be right - I've no idea what they were using for those reissues. I was just going by the apparent lack of grain and slight pinkish tint to the wood.
