Misdee Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Can anyone tell me about the relative merits of these respective models? What practical advantages does the Pro version offer? Is it worth spending £25 more than the basic version? I want to buy a headphone amp for home noodling, playing along to YouTube ect and the Nux seems to be the only Bluetooth option. I'm not planning to use it for anything more ambitious than that. I'm not very tech-orientated, to put it mildly, so simplicity and less options might be a good thing in certain respects Any experience, advice or suggestions much appreciated. Quote
Reggaebass Posted 14 hours ago Posted 14 hours ago Hi , I’ve got the pro version and I think it’s really good, I believe the difference is the pro has more amps, cabs and pedals to choose from, I’d say it’s worth the difference in price, others more knowledgeable will probably advise more, this thread might be helpful 1 Quote
tayste_2000 Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago Shameless plug Personally the Boss Katana Go is better than either. The MP2 sounds better than the Pro to me but the volume control only being in the app made me get the Pro. The pro slowly removed any joy out of playing bass, it doesn’t sound bad, like not that you go oh I hate this, but you find you don’t enjoy playing much with it took me a few months to realise what the problem was. I didn’t have this with the MP2 but as above and even though I’m selling one, Boss Katana Go is much better and the Darkglass Element is better still but faffier to just noodle when you feel like it. 2 1 Quote

Misdee Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago Thanks so much everybody. Last I heard Boss had abruptly discontinued the Katana headphones amp. This must be a new version, I assume. My benchmark in terms of sound quality is my old Korg Pandora PX4. That sounded so good and was so useful, but is unfortunately now so knackered after years of heavy use. Probably the best money I have ever spent. Does the Boss have the facility to control the volume of the music you are playing along to like you can on the NUX? All I want is to be able to pick up my handy bass and have quick faff-free session playing along to backing tracks ect. 1 Quote

They've redesigned the shell, moving the volume knob, but otherwise, identical inside and same sounds. I had one of those Pandora's too - the PX4D. Great sounding little unit. I wish I had never sold it sometimes. I don't have mine to hand, but I believe you can simply control the external music volume on the playback device itself. No need for a mixer in the Katana Go. No need for a mixer in the Katana Go. Correct just turn your phone, tablet or computer up and down to suit. The volume of the device on the nux and boss will increase the instrument and device but then you just nudge it down on the device as well. Its worth noting that the NUX Pro has quite a heavy bass boost on Bluetooth audio going into the device. The new Boss Katana Go is exactly the same as the old one except the volume knob was removed after fender bought all the stock for their Mustang thing. So boss had to redesign and now it has some buttons or a dial on the side. But the rest of the device is the same and both versions are supported and work with the app. I feel I’ve done exceptionally well here selling anyone reading on my NUX MP3 for sale 😇 1 Quote

That's definitely worth remembering for anyone looking to buy one of these. I'm sure I mentioned it elsewhere on these boards sometime ago, but when I briefly had a Mooer Prime P1, I noticed the Bluetooth audio sounded weak compared to my original Mighty Plug. After testing, I realised it was the MP at fault, artificially boosting the low end. The P1 had other issues, but that's another story! Quote
eude Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I think the Pro might have a tuner, along with some more effects, amps and cabs, but I have to say I'm delighted with my regular one. Especially since discovering I can plug it into my phone via USB C and use it to record audio for videos! I'm going to try it out with the new Fender Studio app this weekend too. 1 1 Quote
Reggaebass Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I can’t remember now but I think you can download the mighty plug pro app without having the device Misdee, just thinking you could have a look around it and explore what features it has if you wanted 1 Quote

The older Katana was actually my first choice but they were discontinued and sold out at that time. I'm now going to explore the relative merits of the NUX v the Boss. Choices, choices! The Katana does look and sound pretty nifty from what I've seen on YouTube so far. 1 Quote
