Upton Bass combo

Since entering the world of double bass ownership, I’ve watched a lot of the content put out by the guys at Upton Bass in the good’ol US of A. Last week they posted this interesting video of a combo they are developing specifically for double bass. Interesting combination of a down firing 10” woofer with a front mounted mid-range driver, built-in HPF and an eq ‘specifically voiced for double bass’. Still in the prototype stage, but I thought I’d share here.

Sounds very promising, except with the Full Circle...

 

The electric bass sounds good too through this amp.

My guess is they're trying to fill the void in the market created by the sad passing of Rick Jones, the founder and owner of Acoustic Image. I own two Acoustic Image combos that have literally been around the world with me. They share a down firing 10" woofer design with the Upton. Dispersion on the AI is absolutely fantastic.

He gives a nod to Rick Jones in the video so it’s possible that the Upton is based on an Acoustic Image design.

Pretty nice to see a bass amp where you don't have to immediately kill just about all of the mids to get an even servicable sound.

Rarely touch the eq on my pjb rig. Maybe tweak the bass for room acoustics.  My old trace certainly needed a big smile on it tho.

 

Guess the trace was designed to sound impressive and the pjb to be flat response.
