I was going to put up my 1990 Thumb NT4! Then after having waxed and cleaned and polished, and played for 4 hours, the reality of selling it would have been crazy..It would be total sellers regret!!

 

These early thumbs upto 92 with their slim neck profile, have arguably become and rightly so classics..The sound of the fundamental on the low E, just rock when played through an old Trace Elliot rig..

 

Someone will be very happy with this beauty..

Exactly this! Not to mention the Schaller tuners, brass JUST-A-NUT I and solid brass bridge. My 87 JD Thumb aint going nowhere!

Unfortunately it doesnt have the trim pot on it. This helps you to dial in the pre-set mid range on the active pre. Still a great sounding pre without it though

Previous owner stuck a piece of tape over it, not sure why. Maybe that’s where they rested their thumb. I’ve left it on.

Same here (year and model), even though I don't play 4s any more except the odd open mic night when I take it for a run out.

Not sure i could ever sell my 89 Thumb that i bought new in early 1990.

Such a wonderful bass to play and mine never leaves the house these days but its a keeper.

As already mentioned the necks on these basses are sublime and those EMG's are simply one of the best pick ups i've ever had on a bass.

I think the original owner has safeguarded his pick up with a bit of tape as i've seen some well used ones where the pick up has dulled at the top edge where the thumb tends to rest or maybe it was simply for comfort.

Just noticed thats the original EMG preamp encapsulated module. Very nice indeed and far better sounding than the MEC preamp from later models.

The sticker label on the bridge pick up looks like it says a Stage 1 Streamer pick up. I believe the streamer and Thumb basses had the same pick ups.

Mine is the 89 model with EMG's but doesn't have the sticker label.

WOW someone really needs to buy this as its one heck off a bass to play with one of the best necks i've ever played.
