binky_bass Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 Feels very much 'unlegit'. Have asked the seller a simple question, doubt I'll get a response. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405525715716?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=tya2sjnks3k&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=mojaVkKDRiC&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Quote
warwickhunt Posted February 7, 2025 Posted February 7, 2025 The pics look legit but that description is A.I. generated at best! Quote

tauzero Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 Also on as a "6 string bass guitar" with the Warwick name confined to the description. It's the same bass, unless the flaming in the maple is photowotsit. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405531257322 Pics are better and it/they are collection only. Seems odd but not necessarily a scam. Almost zero feedback but everyone has to start somewhere. Quote
binky_bass Posted February 9, 2025 Author Posted February 9, 2025 (edited) It's an odd one, a few things have now changed on the listing too. I have had a bit of a chat with the guy, still not 100% convinced if I'm honest (various reasons). Will report back later in the week... Edited February 9, 2025 by binky_bass Quote
bassbloke Posted February 9, 2025 Posted February 9, 2025 Ask him whereabouts in London he is based. Plenty of forum members in the area. If he is a legitimate seller he'll understand why a potential buyer might want reassurance and allow someone to go and view. Or, old fashioned approach, ask him to post a photo of himself holding it with a newspaper or something. Quote
tauzero Posted February 10, 2025 Posted February 10, 2025 Even stranger, he's ended the "6-string bass guitar" listing due to an error in the listing and relisted it with exactly the same wording (or at least it looks like it, I haven't done a word by word comparison). Old: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405531257322 New: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405531884808 Tineye didn't come up with any matches on a reverse image search, nor did a quick manual search for "warwick thumb 6" images (that rug is distinctive). Si600 Posted February 13, 2025 Posted February 13, 2025 Is it as sketchy AF as previously thought? Quote
binky_bass Posted February 13, 2025 Author Posted February 13, 2025 (edited) Mildly, the guy was decent, he rocked up with another big dude and I'm 95% sure he sent a younger guy to scout me out as there was a guy that turned up about 10 mins before he did and was very obviously looking at me as he walked back and forth a good few times... so while a little odd, all was legit. Deal done in a public space, cash only withdrawn after I'd seen the bass etc. I had asked him to send me some specific pictures before hand which he did and the background matched the eBay photos. So... not all that seems sketchy is sketchy! Though absolutely worth having taken a good number of precautions... Edited February 13, 2025 by binky_bass 1 Quote
tauzero Posted February 16, 2025 Posted February 16, 2025 I see that both of the Warwicks have ended. You didn't have to pay for two did you? I wonder, with Ebay's new added protection racket, will there be more bypassing of auctions and BINs? Will Ebay get really tough with exchanging address details or phone numbers? Quote
