jonnybass Posted Thursday at 09:33 Share Posted Thursday at 09:33 Im really new to double bass. What are the advantages of a wooden end pin over a metal one? is it purely less damaging to floors/stages? Jonny

I also like the fact that it's fixed, so I don't need to waste time when I do a gig or play at home. It's just done. Slippage is also an issue as the screw in metal end pins doesn't always catch that well. Soundwise, I have noticed an improvement. Finally, it makes you play about 130% faster, better and with precise intonation.* * This may be a lie.
NickA Posted Thursday at 22:34 Share Posted Thursday at 22:34 Makes you sound like Charlie Mingus ( Thumpy and often out of tune ) But maybe doesn't endow you with his incredible creativity.

And hopefully not his legendary temper! 1
tinyd Posted Friday at 12:55 Share Posted Friday at 12:55 I had one for a while from @benbastin - it worked very well and the stability / simplicity aspect was good. However, my daughter started learning DB so I needed something adjustable again. I didn't notice any difference in sound but that might say more about my ears than the endpin itself.... JoeEvans Posted Saturday at 16:25 Share Posted Saturday at 16:25 When I switched my first double bass to a wooden pin and it improved the sound a lot. But the bass was quite small in the body so needed a long pin, and it only had an 8mm pin fitting so the end result was pretty wobbly. My current bass was definitely improved in sound by a wooden pin, but not by as much.
