Manson's Guitar Show, Exeter

Recommended Posts

Morning - Mansons are doing their guitar show again this year in October. I'm wondering if anyone could give me an impression of how it was last year (I didn't get there) as I'm considering taking a stand to show some of my guitars and basses. Not that I seriously expect to sell anything, but it might be nice to put my work out there to be seen.

It's not too big, and it's local (ish) to me, so might be a good place to display my work.

Any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks, Andy

It's not too big - it was held in a sports hall but having said that, there was a good flow of people throughout the weekend. There wasn't much in the way of bass if I recall, it was mostly guitar - but isn't that always the way? In fact, I can only recall EBS and Trace Elliot being there... (and I don't actually recall anybody actually manning the Trace stand!)
For me what was missing was the small independant luthiers ( I know Any Manson was there..and Bernie G). Its a small show but it would be a lot better with more interesting instruments.
Yup - I think it was only Andy, Hugh and Bernie. All the unsold stands became Manson stands in one shape or another. Maybe phone around some luthiers and see if there is anybody up for sharing a stand - may make exhibiting a bit cheaper if you are unsure.

Years ago I met John from Orchid Electronics at a Mansons show (he's Exeter based, and did repairs for the shop at the time). I've used his services many times since (custom DI boxes, repairs, mods, cables) and recommended him often. If you want to raise your profile, and you're local then its a good idea...as long as they aren't charging you a fortune!

I don't think that the cost of exhibiting was that high... but the cost of getting electricity and lighting to your stand was...!

It was advertised only on Manson's own website last year... It then spread via word of mouth - e.g. Led Zep boards, Muse boards... It kinda helped that JPJ, JJ Burnell, Justin Hawkins etc... were there. Guess Hugh called in some favours :)

Just remembered - on the luthier front, Patrick Eggle was also there. Nice guy.

I was there last year and thought it pretty good

Its called the South West Guitar show - though run by Mansons

Here's a couple links to last years threads:

I think it would be a good place to promote you basses, Andy

I was there and enjoyed it. There was enough bass to make it worth the effort for me to be fair. I think an independent luthier would be well received and you'll get your name out there for sure.

I understand from Adrian Ashton that the special on both days (from a bass perpective) may be Michael Manring, not every one's cup of tea but might be worth going to see.

Adrian did ask me to mention the show to bass chatters. Michael manring will indeed be there, which should be well worth a look. I'll also be there representing Bassline Publishing and doing some demos. It's a great show so hopefully I'll see some of you there!
