Went to see the Wonderstuff at the O2 Academy in Glasgow tonight - and very good too. However, what's the mystery black bass that Mark McCarthy is playing....

Looks like a Washburn headstock.

Erm, they are still good aren't they?
Straight up... one of the best live acts I have heard in ages. They've been around for several years at least.

Another good reason - their current violinist, Erica:

Well Miles Hunt and the guitarist dude are the originals. They make a damn good tribute band anyway :)

So... does nobody know what that bass is?

A what?? But yes, that's the one. Well done - you win the prize that doesn't exist :)
Hmmm don't know, close, but I'm not sure. The logo in the centre of the headstock isn't identical.
Well Muse make 'Alden' guitars which have some very similar looking basses. I guess it's one of those Taiwanese manufacturers who'll put on any badge you like if you buy a few. The "bulls horns" logo is also very similar.

Either that it's something old and rare and I've just insulted the guy :)

Dunno, but check out one of their guitars: the Blues Line Abalone. :)

It's like the inside of a disco crustacean. The horror... the horror...

I know what you mean - I wondered about the logo. It looks as though Muse make a few versions of this - here is an Alden Cleopatra and again the logo is similar but not identical.

They're Zemaitis copies...

Compare the one above with this http://www.zemaitisclub.com/zemaitis-pearl-front-guitar.htm

And this metal fronted Muse http://www.muse-inc.com/product/product.ph...=19&IID=165

Ugh. They really do nothing for me. And don't those tops do something horrific to the sound?

I wouldn't worry about it... original Zemaitis guitars (not the Greco licenced copies that only cost a thousand quid or so) are far out of reach for most of us mortals... we're talking tens of thousands of pounds.

Ah, right. They're "hang on the wall, don't dare to play" jobs. Doesn't matter what they sound like! :)

No, he just didn't make them for plebs. This is probably the most famous one:

He also made acoustics. Here's one...

(that one went for £130,000)

And this cheeky little feller is playing a Zemaitis...
